2012 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM INFORMATION

The Institute of Management Accountants, New York Chapter is proud to announce our annual IMA New York Chapter Scholarship Award Program. PURPOSE To encourage and assist IMA NY Chapter student members who demonstrate outstanding potential to pursue a career in management accounting and financial management. TYPE OF AWARD Scholarships are to be awarded to IMA NY Chapter student members attending an accredited college and enrolled in a four or five-year management accounting or financial management related program. Alternate award winners will be selected in the event a winner declines the award or subsequently becomes ineligible. DUE DATE AND APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS The due date is March 1, 2012. Please review the instructions on the applicant information form. After the application is mailed, please inform the NY Chapter President by email. Required items may be mailed separately. Please state in the email to the President which items have been emailed. The Chapter webpage with the application is at http://www.newyork.imanet.org/imastudentmember.htm ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Each IMA NY Chapter student member is eligible to submit one application per student member. Scholarships are available to students studying in the United States at accredited institutions. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS Full and part-time students are encouraged to apply (must carry at least 6 credits per term) Have not previously won an IMA, New York Chapter monetary scholarship. Applicant must be an IMA NY Chapter student member. The applicant must state in the application letter into which Management Accounting or Financial Management related program you are enrolled in. CRITERIA FOR SELECTION The IMA NY Chapter Scholarship Selection Committee will base its decision for awarding the scholarships on a variety of criteria such as academic merits, demonstration of leadership, volunteer activities and IMA activities. METHOD OF DISBURSEMENT Cash payment in the fall of the Award year to the individual upon receipt of registration document. ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS Early May and at the end of year dinner meeting (May 2012 TBD).

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS All information must be typed or computer printed. The completed application form, including the signature of the applicant, plus the items listed below must be submitted to the IMA New York Chapter on or before March 1, 2012.

Applicant information form A one-page summary of the applicants employment record (if applicable), leadership activities, IMA activities and other information pertinent to the application. A resume format is acceptable. Transcript (s) of grades. Ultimately, an official transcript will be required to receive the scholarship. The transcript(s) must include most recently completed semester grades. A letter of recommendation from a professor in a Management Accounting/Financial Management related program, which includes verification of the major field of study and expected date of graduation. A letter by the applicant addressing career objectives, why he or she is applying for the scholarship, description of IMA, volunteer and leadership activities and any other relevant information.
