Internship Opportunities Summer Internships Seven Pillars Institute for Global Finance and Ethics Lawrence, Kansas Seven

Pillars Institute (SPI) for Global Finance and Ethics is an independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan, organization whose mission is to highlight and analyze issues of moral philosophy in global financial markets with a view to enhancing ethical practice and policy. At its highest level of aspiration the Institute aims at developing a new theory of finance that incorporates ethics at a fundamental level of the theory. The Institute encourages efforts towards and provides the space for this quest. Established in 2010, SPI is in its early stage of growth. Therefore, SPI is recruiting summer interns who are looking for opportunities to contribute and help develop an exciting new start-up venture. The internship will provide invaluable experience in research, writing, entrepreneurship, and organizational development. In addition, each summer intern will be listed and featured on the website of the Institute. Research and writing projects will be attributed to their authors. Consequently, the internship is a unique and rare opportunity for students to publish scholarly work. The Institute regularly holds a fundraiser in July. Interns are expected to help organize the summer fundraiser. At the end of the internship period, the Institute will award first and runner-up prizes for the best essay or research handed in by an intern. First prize will be $1000 and the runner-up prize will be $500. Ideal candidates will be undergraduate students majoring in Philosophy, Finance, Business, Economics, or Journalism or graduate students pursuing a master or doctoral degree in these fields or in law. The candidate should have strong writing, research skills, and inter-personal skills, and be eager to take the initiative. In addition, he or she should preferably be at ease with effective use of social media, Internet outreach, and website management. The Institute does not require interns to reside in Lawrence, Kansas during the term of the internship. Individual work may be performed offsite while meetings and collaborative work will be done online. Asides from the essay/research prizes, the internships are unpaid. Students may apply for credit from their department or school. Successful interns not only will be able to publish their work, but also will obtain a strong letter of recommendation.
