8. 9. 10. 11. 12.

How many times do we live & die? Death Before birth Death, death
Live Birth Resurrection Our chance for repentance is only in this life.

Death/time at the grave is described as a "visit." The time to regret is now. No use for regrets on the day of judgement. Disbelievers had certainty when its too late. The believers have certainty now. knowledge can be beneficial for us or against. If all the doors are closed in front of you. Only one door is open 24/7 Do you know YOU? Ask 3 questions every night: 1. Who am I? You are of 2, free or servant? SERVANT If u are free, you are ultimately serving yourself. If you are a servant, who do u serve? ALLAH LIFE = TEST + STRUGGLE 2. What is my ultimate goal in life? 3. Do I have directions to that goal? Do you know your enemies & friends? Your real friend will admonish u & bring tears to your eyes. Your friends r like a mirror to you. 4 Enemies that we need to know 1. YOURSELF Internal moral compass, dareer 2. Whims & desires 3. ? 4. ?
Is knowing them enough? No. If u are weak when u are alone, don't be alone.

Shaitan is the enemy. Take him as the enemy. 2. What is wrong with Islam today then? Nothing. The problem is us.
Write the 3 most important goals in life. 1. Please Allah = Jannah 2. Memorize the Quran 3. Be dutiful to parents & family.

1. 2. 3.

GOALS Short term Long term Ultimate - Needs to be Jannah

Story of Rabiah bin Aslam - 16 yrs old - His job was to offer water at night to the prophet Salallahu alaihi wa salaam when he wanted to make wudhu for tahajjud - One day, the prophet SAW asked him to ask him for anything. - I want to be in your company in Jannah.

The Eternal Journey - Tafseer Juz Tabarak Page 1

Who is the source of guidance for you? The Quran & Sunnah
What is wrong with us today? Prophet Muhammad's complain about us. "The Muslims have abandoned the Quran" Listening Reading

What is the meaning of life? Salatul Kahf Whatever Allah has created on earth is nothing but a mere ornament. The real meaning if life are Tests, So who will make the best when it comes to their deeds. Quality comes before quantity. Also in Suratul Mulk. - life is test - some people will succeed & some will fail.
How old are you? Suratul Mu'minun Allah will ask, how long have u lived on earth? the answers will be short. What is time? Is it important? - back biting the worst sin.

Your time is your life. Your life is your capital to Jannah. Which is more important? Time or money? - Don't let a day go by without doing deeds, for it is a list day. - Make the best out of me Classifications of people Surah 2 What do I need yo make it there? 1. know the obstacles 2. Procrastination 3. Following whims null desires 4. free time What provisions do I need in the journey? Taqwa (many def.)
Make a barrier bet u and hell fire - Abu Hurairah that Allah is watching you - Abu Bakar Suratul Kahf: 50 We have created man & we know his mind & his secrets. We are closer to him than his jugular vein. Because we've assigned 2 angels to him to record his deeds.

Juz Tabarak Known as Tabarak coz usually it's known as the first word in the first Surah in that Juzuk. Surah Al- Mulk, first word, "Tabarak" Same as Juz Amma - Surah An-Naba , first word, "Amma"

Surah 67: Al-Mulk Surat 68: Al-Qalam (The Pen) Surah 69: al-Haqqah Surah 70: al-Ma'arij Surah 71: Nuh (Noah) Surah 72: al-Jinn (The Jinn) Surah 73: al-Muzzammil (The One wrapped in Garments) Surah 74: Al-Muddathir (The One Enveloped)
Surah 76: Al-Insan (Man or Time)

Surah 67: Al-Mulk

Translations and Themes Virtues of Al- Mulk The prophet Sallahu alaihi wa salaam reported as reciting this surah before going to bed to remind himself about Allah. If you memorize, understand and apply on it, it is "almaniah" "al munjiah" - prevent and save us from the punishment of the grave The Prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam said that there is a surah in the quran that contains 30 verses that will intercede for the person that memorize that surah until Allah forgive their sins.

10. 11. 12.

Surah 77: Al-Mursalaat (Those sent forth) Surah 75: Al-Qiyamah (The Resurrection) Questions

What the Surah's about Talks about Allah's miracles, stars.. Talks about our enemies - SHAITAN Shaitan amongst jinns and mankind Talks about the people of hellfire and their regrets, the dialogues bet the pple and the angles Talks abt the mutaqqin People travelling across the earth and enjoying the earth's bounty Allah's provision, about the birds Talks about the pple of Quraish, no one can give you victory if Allah is not on your side. The purpose of our creation Why did the Quraish deny the day of judgement Allah challenges the people of Quraish who claimed that the pr Importance of water as source of life.

Our intention is to learn that knowledge and act on that knowledge. Share with others! Knowledge --> Self purification --> Da'wah

Bismillah Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem Allah is in our hearts all the time And we want to please Him so we mention his name al the time. So we invoke HIS name

Glorification of Allah

67|1|
1. Blessed is He in whose hand is dominion, and He is over all things competent. (Tabarak) - stems from the verb, "yubarik" To bless - Only Allah can bless us To increase, to grow BarrakAllahu feek - May Allah increse the barak within you Noun - Barakah = increases Allah increases the good in that thing To increase or to fix something To exalt May the one in whose hand, be exalted. To make something consistent within the person The Mushaf cannot protect you. The ink cannot protect you. The meanings of the Quran being understood and acted upon, Islam becomes your way of life, that's when you'll be protected. Insha'Allah We don't have the authority to claim something as "haram" or "halal." Only Allah and the prophet salallahu alaihi wa salaam can

Al-Mulk - Allah's dominion (Blessed is He in whose hand is dominion, and He is over all things competent.)
Never think of Allah in human terms - There is no one that is like Allah, the all seer and all hearer.

Allah said in: Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:85 And Blessed is He to Whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them and with Whom is the knowledge of the Hour, and to Whom you will be returned. Only Allah can do everything. The statement "Insha'Allah" (wa hu wa ala kuli shayin qadeer) The story of Juha' buying a cow Insha'Allah has a deeper meaning Once the revelation of the Quran stopped for 2 weeks coz the Prophet Sallahu alaihi wa salaam forgot to say insha'Allah. Allah is in CONTROL of everything. We don't have the control. We may plan, but Allah controls and decides on it. Surahtul Buruj 85: exemplifies this.
Creation of Death, life, the heavens and the stars

Allah said that we all need each other. We can never live alone by ourselves. We complement each other. We need to respect each other because of that, and not coz of our wealth, jobs, appearances We respect people for people. HUMANITY.

1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

5 Things when you make da'wah MERCY WISDOM GENTLENESS HUMBLENESS PATIENCE
Reported in Bukhari, Whoever reads a letter from the book of Allah, he will have a reward from Allah recorded in his book. Every hasanah made will be multiplied 10X 6/19/2011, 11:33 AM HUMBLENESS PATIENCE La hawla wala quwata illah billah -

67|2|
2. Who has created death and life, that He may test you which of you is best in deed. And He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving;

Halaqah - to create out of nothing He is the one who creates death and life
Death is a creation and death will end As mentioned in a hadith

The Eternal Journey - Tafseer Juz Tabarak Page 3

As mentioned in a hadith Surah Al-Imran 3:185 - Every soul will taste death Surah Kahf - And the agonies of death came with an inescapable truth. Allah will call the people of Jannah and people of hell fire one day and show everyone death in the form of ram (the symbol of death.) Allah will command that that ram to be slaughtered. Death will end on that day. Oh people of jannah, there is no death. You will be in Jannah for eternity. There will be happiness like no other. Oh people of hell fire, eternity. There is no death. They will feel so much guilt, remorse that day. Surahtul Mariam 19:39 (The Day of Regret) Allah creates life Life is the life of the heart and not the life of the body You start calculating your life the moment you start connecting with Allah. This is the meaning of life. The likeness of life are those who remembers Allah and those who don't remember Allah, are dead Surah Al-Anfal 8:24 Allah talking about the life of the hearts Oh you who believe! Answer Allah and His messenger when he calls you to that which will give you life and know that Allah comes in between a person and his heart. And verily to Him you shall be gathered (Al-Anfal 8:24) Oh you who believe (Ya ayuhal ladhi na amannu) 89 times Talking particularly to the believers, and usually a warn or command after Oh mankind (Ya ayuhan Nass) 20 times Heart is the organ that if it is sound, the whole body is sound. In Surahtul Hajj - It is not the eyes that goes blind, but the heart in the chest We need to have a plan for the REAL life, life for eternity Al-Hadid 57:20 Know that this life is only play and amusement, you boast with one another, and rival in respect of wealth and children. Like the farmers who grows the vegetation And the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment. Al-Ankabut 29:64 And this worldly life is idle and play Indeed the real life is the second life, the home of the Hereafter This current life is just a passage What is the meaning of life of a muslim? Life is a TEST What are the forms of the test? Surah Al-Bakarah 2:155 And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear (al-hawfi), hunger (al-ju'), loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Sabiroon. These are reminders for us. A test can also be in the form of gifts to us When Allah gives doesnt mean He's pleased with you, when Allah denies, doesnt mean that He is displeased (Surahtul Fajr 89:15-16) How do you use it or do you abuse it? How can I know what I'm doing is good? 2 conditions: 1. Al-Kahf 110:18 ??? - Sincerity of intentions, only to please Allah. 2. Al Ahzab 33:21 Following the sunnah of the prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam
Subahana wa bi hamdi, adadal khalqi, al-arshi wa midadal qalimati wa redha nafsi, wa zina Allah created the whole universe (land, moon, sun, stars, sea) to serve us. But He created us to serve Him.

When Allah gives doesnt mean He's pleased with you, when Allah denies, doesnt mean that He is displeased (Surahtul Fajr 89:15-16)

The quality of the deed is more important than the quantity

Al-Azeez ( ) and Al-Ghafoor ( ), what do these attributes mean and why were these names chosen? When any ayah ends with a certain attribute of Allah, they are relevant and connected to the main theme of the Surah. Al-Azeez - All-Mighty, All Powerful al-ardu izzazz - part of the land that is rocky and powerful On our way back to Allah, we makes mistakes. And the only One who forgives us, over and over again is Allah who has all the power and is All Forgiving - Al-Ghafoor. He has the power to punish but chooses to forgive

A foolish person lives to eat, but a wise person eats to live. Food is a means to give us energy, to continue and worship Allah to do something beneficial.

67|3|
3. (And) Who has created the seven heavens in layers (one above another). You do not see in the creation of the Most Merciful any inconsistency. So return (your) vision (to the sky); do you see any breaks?

Allah created the whole universe (land, moon, sun, stars, sea) to serve us. But He created us to serve Him.
He creates the seven heavens (Tibaka) plural of tabak (a level/floor) levels, above one another

1.

2. 3.

(Ma Tara') Can't see

Ar-Rahman is repeated

The Eternal Journey - Tafseer Juz Tabarak Page 4

4. 5. -

You can't see the inconsistencies in the heavens

Cracks

67|4|
The return (your) vision twice again. (Your) vision will return to you humbled while it is fatigued.

1. -

(from the word kha'si') The Arabs are very generous, even during the pre-Islamic era. They use to have dogs as guards. When the dogs starts barking at the guest, the host will tell the dogs to get away "kha'si" (from the word hasra = regret) Inability to change something. No more chance. You will have that feeling of regret. Fatimah Radhiallahu Anhu, use to say, how short is the night Allah- to establish prayers to be with

2. -

67|5|
5. "And We have certainly beautified the nearest heavens with stars and have made from them what is thrown at the devils and have prepared for them(the devils) the punishment of the Blaze." (67:5) 1. -

Bisma = lamps. But here it refers to the stars.

2. -

One of the degrees of hellfire The use of "We" when Allah us speaking - in the royal sense, out of glory and majesty. But when Allah talks about worshipping Him, He always uses singular nouns I/Me. Islam = Monotheism From Surah 17 Al-Isra' Whoever works hard in this dunia, Allah will Whoever works hard for the akhirah, Allah will test you in the dunya, Allah will reward you in the akhirah. A Test is a sign on the love of Allah.

The devils used to go to the nearest heavens and hear what the angels are saying and share them with the magicians, soothsayers. With the mission of the Prophet Muhammad Sallahu alaihi wa salaam, this stopped. When the devils do this now, Allah sends a burning star to strike them Only Allah knows the future
Allah creates the stars for these 3 functions - As mentioned in the book of Tafseer of ___ Decoration of the nearest heaven "Rujummal li shayatin" - to strike and burn the devils For navigation purposes, give the directions. An-Nahl (16:16)

i. ii. iii.

16|16|
16. And landmarks (signposts, etc. during the day) and by the stars (during the night), they (mankind) guide themselves.

"Your sins are a barrier between you and Allah" Punishment prepared for the devils - Devils refers to not only the jinns but ... The Desciption of Hell and its Dwellers
Allah doesnt look at your faces and appearances, Allah looks at your hearts and your deeds.

67|6|
"And for those who disbelieved in their Lord is the punishment of Hell and wretched is the destination" (67:6)

Languages are like living beings. They affect other languages and they grow. When people live together, we borrow from other languages. Colonization Example, Spanish, Arabic, English.. Khamisah (spanish), Khamis (Arabic) = Shirt Suker (arabic) Sugar (English) Kafer (arabic) = cover (english) The word Kuffar, is like a covering, to conceal The farmer is also know as the kafer, the person who covers the seeds The disbelievers, covers the truth. Literal translation from the Quran, very dangerous. Have to read it in context, dont take it out of context.
The difference between Raabb and Illah Raabb To raise or educate As-sayed the Master The One Who creates out of nothing and He provides for His creation Figurative Raab Rabbul usra - the man who provides for the family Illah Stems from the word 'ala Al-Illah, and then becomes Allah

The Eternal Journey - Tafseer Juz Tabarak Page 5

Al-Illah, and then becomes Allah Allah = is the only One true God worthy of worship. Unique word in Arabic that cannot be in the plural form

Uthman used to say, if you have a sound and living heart, you will never be satisfied with the words of Allah, you will want more and more

67|7|
When they are thrown into it, they hear from it a (dreadful) inhaling while it boils up.
1. Pushed into the hell fire

2. Opposite of zafir Waiting, pulling in/inhaling, waiting for them. The adhab of jahanam - is waiting for the disbelievers, when they are thrown into it, - The verb is in the passive, Allah wants us to focus on the action, When they are pushed, focused on the humiliation. They are pulled in/it inhales

The hell fire will pull/inhale them in 67:7 & jahannam has feelings - Furqan 25:12 - The hell fire has feelings, angry - "When it (hell) sees them, from a far, they will hear its raging and roaring."

67|8|
-

8. It almost bursts up with rage. Every time a group is cast therein, its keeper will ask: "Did no warner come to you?"
Hasnt Allah sent a warner to you?

Q&A After 120 days, an angel will come and blow life into the fetus. 40 days-Nutfah, 40 days-alaqah, 40 days-mutrah
Nafs = Spirit + body

Knowledge is light and will guide us to Jannah and ignorance is dark and will lead us to the hellfire.

"Put your trust on the one that is everlasting, Who never dies." How many gatekeepers of the hell fire are there? 19 angels (Surah Al-Mudathir 74:31)
Ibn Al-Qayim Rahimullah There is a void in the heart that can never be filled, except with the company of Allah subahana wa ta'ala. The Prophet Sulaiman once overheard the ants talking and asked them what provisions do they need in a whole year, they replied just 2 grains of rice

Everytime you commit a sin, a black dot forms on your heart. Salah - a sillah (connection) between you and Allah.
"Your sins are a barrier between you and Allah"

After Lunch 6/18/2011, 3:50 PM

Muqminun 23:107-111 The people will as Allah to bring them out of the hellfire and Allah will say to them, do not speak to Me. Coz there was a group of my slaves who us to believe in Me but you laughed at them. They are rewarded for their patience.

There's always a link between us and the angels - from the beginning of our lives, right down to our death and on the day of judgement, and the hereafter. - Sayara - not a car - The angels travelling around everywhere, trying to find a gathering of people remembering Allah.

67|9| 67|10| 67|11|

(67:9-11) They will say, "Yes, a warner had come to us, but we denied and said, 'Allah has not sent down anything. You are not but great in error.'"
At-Taubah 9:24 Allah mentioned that our in our hearts we have room for 11 loves. If you love those 8 (fathers, sons, brotherswealth, ...) vs those 3 (Allah, His messenger and striving hard & fighting in His Cause) - Baby crying VS call of Salatul Fajr which one will you run to first? As-Sadeeq, Al- The trustworthy, the honest

Tie your camel & leave it to Allah.

Our main job in this dunya Surah At-Tahrim 66:6 Oh you who believe! Save yourselves and your families from the Fire.

They will admit their sins, but it is too late for them, Allah will not increase their status & not accept their repentance, but increase their punishment instead.
However, there is still chance for us to repent NOW and Allah will accept it.

The Reward of Those Who Fear the Lord Unseen 67:12-14

The Eternal Journey - Tafseer Juz Tabarak Page 6

67|12|
12. Indeed those who fear their Lord unseen will have forgiveness and great reward. 1. Unseen
2. (maghfirah) Forgiveness

3. Reward of Jannah There are no barrier for Allah - regardless time and space Eventhough they are away from people they are willing to commit sins when
The only dua in the Quran where the prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam asked Allah to increse him is in knowledge

67|13|
13. Regardless if you speak in softly or loudly, Allah knows the secret in your hearts.

67|14|
14. Can't Allah know His own creation. He is Al-Lateef ( ) ) & Al-Khabeer (

(Al Lateef) Comes from Lateef - Some very tiny & small - Gentle & nice a) Allah is the most gentle b) When there is a secret that is very tiny, Allah knows of these minute things From Sahih Muslim There are 2 men, one is a Takeef, one is a Quraish. One of them asked, "Will Allah hear us? Perhaps if we speak in a loud voice, He may hear us?" Allah replied that He knows even before they spoke.
Another incident Abu Jahal (Amr bin Hisham. Before the coming of Islam, he was known as Abul Hakim, father of wisdom. But after Islam came and he still refused to accept it, he was known as Abu Jahal = father of ignorance.) was seating in Darul talking. One time, Abu Jahal was frustrated coz Jibril will always inform the prohpet salallhu alaihi wa salaam what was said amongst the Quraish. So one night he decides to speak softly. The prophet Salallahu alaihi wa salaam revealed to him the next day that he was foolish coz Allah is Al -Lateef.

(Al Khabeer) He does not only knows but He knows what happened in the past and what'll happen in the future Allah knows His creation

Allah's Favour of Subjugating the Earth to His Servants 67:15

67|15|
15. He it is, Who has made the earth subservient to you (i.e. easy for you to walk, to live and to do agriculture on it, etc.), so walk in the path thereof and eat of His provision, and to Him will be the Resurrection. 1. (manakib) Shoulders --> refers to the sides of the earth, east to west/ slopes. When the farmer covers the seeds in soil, who subjugated the land to produce the fruits, such that they can taste different. Allah is the one who makes the earth subservient to us. Al-Zalzalah 99: - On that day will be the greatest earthquake and man, when resurrected will ask what is wrong with the earth? The earth which is a creation of Allah, will speak and declare its info, testifying for and against mankind.
Who's in ultimate control? Allah, He can use His mercy - rain, wind... as something against you.

The creations will ask Allah to destroy mankind, but Allah tells them to leave us alone for He has mercy for us.
Allah made the earth subservient to you so you should seek out of the bounty of Allah --> put in effort

How Can You Feel Secure against the punishment of Allah 67:16-18

67|16|
16. Do you feel secure that He, Who is over the heaven (Allah), will not cause the earth to sink with you, then behold it shakes (as in an earthquake)?

67|17|
17. Or do you feel secure that He, Who is over the heaven (Allah), will not send against you a violent whirlwind? Then you shall know how (terrible) has been My Warning?

The Eternal Journey - Tafseer Juz Tabarak Page 7

violent whirlwind? Then you shall know how (terrible) has been My Warning?

67|18|
18. And indeed those before them belied (the Messengers of Allah), then how terrible was My denial (punishment)? Beware of a tribulation that is coming. When it comes, it doesnt only hit certain people, but you may be one of them too.

Can the

you feel secure from the One in the Heavens (Allah) that he might command earth to swerve and quake. What can make you feel secure when you keep on sinning? Stop sinning

Take the warning of Allah seriously. They may happen anytime. People of Thamud People of Prophet Nuh Shall we not learn from them? The Flight of Birds is by the Power of Allah

67|19|
19. Do they not see the birds above them, spreading out their wings and folding them in? None upholds them except the Most Beneficent (Allah). Verily, He is the All-Seer of everything. -

When the birds spread their wings it makes them light and easy to fly. But what happens when they fold their wings? Only Allah will help them stay flying in the sky, Ar Rahman Why are the birds mentioned? At the end of the ayah, indeed Allah can see everything - The analogy here, previously, He's talking about provision and now it's talking about the birds flying - If you put your total trust in Allah, He'll provide to you like how He provides for the birds. The leave their nests with an empty stomach in the morning and return to their nests in the evening with stomachs that are full. - Thus from here, we can also learn that Allah is all seeing, all knowing.
No one can help you and no one can grant you sustenance, except Allah

67|20|
20. Who is he besides the Most Beneficent that can be an army to you to help you? The disbelievers are in nothing but delusion.

67|21|
21. Who is he that can provide for you if He should withhold His provision? Nay, but they continue to be in pride, and (they) flee (from the truth). Numbers and weapons cannot give victory with Allah's aid, example, Battle of Badr If Allah were to give you victory, no one can defeat you. Who, but Allah will provide the provisions for you. Parable of the disbeliever and the believer 67:22

67|22|
22. Is he who walks without seeing on his face, more rightly guided, or he who (sees and) walks on a Straight Way (i.e. Islamic Monotheism).

The one who can see the clear signs The Prophet Sallahulaihi wa salaam I left you a very clear path (manhajja) if anyone tries to take a short cut and deviate, he will not make it to the final destination, ie Jannah. Allah said, this is my straight path, follow it. There are deviated ways. If you follow the deviated ways, it will take you away from the footsteps of the Prohphet Sallahulaihi wa salaam
Allah's power to create & being an evidence of the final abode 67:23 -27

67|23|
23. Say "it is He Who has created you, and endowed you with hearing, seeing, and hearts. Little are you grateful." 1. Establish you out of nothing 2. Hearing, not ears.
3. To see 4. The mind When a calamity hits us, we always goes back to Allah. It was bad, but it was good, disguised in "bad". Allah equips us with things, even before we needs them He gives us our mind to start reasoning During the first few days of a newborn, they can't see, but they can hear. For the first 2 years, they can't reason The order of the ayah Hearing

1.

The Eternal Journey - Tafseer Juz Tabarak Page 8

2. 3.

Seeing Reasoning
Dua': Oh Allah, who gave me my hearing, back and my sight back and opportunity to remember Him.

Not enough to just say Alhamdulillah by the tongue, realize it in your heart. Use your eyes to look at halal Allah has given us time to spend with family and tighten the kinship
Allah tells us that knowledge is only with Allah and for the prophet sallahualaihi wa salaam to tell them that he doesnt know, that he is only the warner.

67|27|
27. But when they will see it (the torment on the Day of Resurrection) approaching, the faces of those who disbelieve will be different (black, sad, and in grieve), and it will be said (to them): "This is (the promise) which you were calling for!" 27. Allah said, when they saw it(the day of judgment) approaching, see the reaction on the faces of the disbelievers - the sadness and the distress a) Tell them that this is the day they (the disbelievers) were making dua'/asking for. Now face your day b) This the day that you use to claim that will never happen, but here it is, it happened. The death of a believer will not save the disbeliever, so let him reflect upon his deliverance

- 67|28|
28. Say (O Muhammad) : "Tell me! If Allah destroys me, and those with me, or He bestows His Mercy on us, - who can save the disbelievers from a painful torment?"

67|29|
29. Say: "He is Ar-Rahman the Most Beneficent (Allah), in Him we believe, and in Him we put our trust. So you will come to know who is it that is in manifest error." Reminding of Allah's blessings by springing of water

- 67|30|
30. Say (O Muhammad): "Tell me! If (all) your water were to be sunk away, who then can supply you with flowing (spring) water?"

If you go in the morning to the well, for the your animals and plants, water the source of life. Who else will give you water? How we take this for granted.
(Al-Anbiya 21:30) Have not those who disbelieve known that the heavens and earth And We have made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe? Ar-Rahmaan

During the time of the boycott, the muslims and the Quraish made an agreement, and this agreement was written and placed in the Ka'bah. Allah destroyed paper but left the name Al-Hudaibiyah Another agreement (the truce of hudaibiyah) The prophet told Ali to write "bismillah Ar-Rahman, Ar Raheem" the Quraish said, take out Ar-Rahman, ArRaheem, coz we don't know who that is, write Bismillah. Ali refused but the prophet SAW himself he scratched it out Ar-Rahman Ar Raheem himself. Al The people of Quraish use to deny the name of Allah as Ar-Rahmaan. So now Allah uses Ar-Rahmaan. All the beautiful names and attributes of Allah.

Why did the revelation stop for 2 weeks when the Prophet Sallahualaihi wa salaam did not say insha'Allah?
The jews living during the time of the prophet Sallahualaihi wa salaam went to him to ask him about the people of the cave and about Dhul'karnian - the man who toured the east and the west. The Prophet Sallahualaihi wa salaam told them, "I'll tell you tomorrow" without saying, "insha'Allah" So he waited for two weeks until the revelation came from Allah about the story of two of those events in Surah Al-Kahf (18) and an ayah in the surah mentioned, never say something without saying, "insha'Allah"

Why did Allah create evil? -

Allah gave us a trust - the free choice to believe or not to believe. When Allah created Adam, the angels asked Allah, "Why would you create somebody who would create bloodshed on earth when we glorify You?" Why would the angels say this? Its because the angels viewed the creation of Adam and they expected them Another explanation, they've seen the jinn created before, and the jinn are like us where they accepted the trust - to believe or not, and they've seen that the jinns have disobeyed Allah and so they expected us to do that too. Another interpretation, another creation have been created before us and they've created hardship and bloodshed also, so the humans are also expected to do the same.
What did Allah say to the angels? Indeed I know what that you don't know. Allah wanted to prove to the angels that if mankind would accept the trust and honor it, they would be better in the sight of Allah than the angels. Allah then told Adam the name of things. And Allah asked the angels if they know the name of things, they replied they do not know. So Allah told Adam to teach the angels. Allah created Adam and honored him

Allah knows best and He has a purpose behind everything He created Allah created us with knowledge and He gave us free will 18:29 - Oh Muhammad say to them, the truth came from your Lord, you are free to believe and you have free choice. If you want Allah to stop evil, you are saying that you want Allah to take away our free choice. So is evil attributed to the human who abused the freedom and power Allah has given us? Or to Allah?
FREEWILL QUESTIONS: Identify any names or categories of people addressed in the Surah and state the lessons learnt from the verses Reasons for revelation There is a story behind the revelation of some verses in the surah of the Qu'ran. Following I an example in suratul Mulk. Study the suras of Juz'Tabarak and identify those stories or reasons behing the revelation of such verses. 67: Verse 13

Surat Al-Qalam (The Pen)

29 surahs starts with al-huruf muata'(separate letters) in the Quran Only Allah knows the meaning of these letters Every prophet was supported with miracles during his time to what is common during their time, but is beyond the norm. Example Musa, during his time, magic was common in his time and Allah challenged the people with Musa's miracles. During the time of Isa', medicine was common during his time and Allah grant him the ability to heal - blind, leper... During the time of the prophet Muhammad sallahu alaihi wa salaam, poetry & arts of the languages was common. Poets were looked up at and were leaders of their tribes. So Allah challenged them with the Quran' The Arabs revered poets and even Allah challenged the Arabs 3 times in the Quran 1. "Try to create a Qur'an like this." They couldn't. Even at least 10 surahs,

The Eternal Journey - Tafseer Juz Tabarak Page 10

Suratul Baqarah, Allah challenged them to create one surah and invite all those who can support you beside Allah if you are really telling the truth. IF you are not able to do this in the past, you will never be able to do this in the future. So don't ever try to challenge Allah. Scholars of the tafsir said that "Nun" could mean 1. Just the letter "nun" 2. Another, the letter, looks like the container of the ink, "al-midwa" that the pen writes 3. They said that it could mean the board that you start writing. 4. Explained in the Qur'an Surah Anbiya' 21:87 i. Prophet Yunus (the companion of the whale/fish), the fish or the whale.

a)

68|1|
Nun. By the pen and what they inscribe.

in the first verse

"Wa"

- wa ul' kasal - when you take an oath. Other letters can be used to

show an oath-

"ba" and

" ta"

- wallahi, billahi & tallahi.

Qalam means the pen, which is the symbol of knowledge. We can only take an oath by Allah Allah can take an oath by anything What is the Qalam?

1. -

2. 3.

The first thing Allah created is the qalam - pen. Allah commanded the pen to write, write everything that will happen between now and the end of time. And that was 50,000 years before the creation of heaven and earth

Could mean the angels, who write down/record everything. Symbol of knowledge

The word - "satur" (line) - write on the line

Why do Friday khutbahs gives you different reactions. Whatever comes from the heart, goes to the heart The khutbah is old and recycled The imam spends a whole week preparing the khutbah and he has a message and wants to boost your eman.

Swearing by the Pen Refers to the greatness of the Prophet 68|2| 2. You (O Muhammad) are not, by the Grace of your Lord, a madman.
The structure (syntax) of the ayah There's an inversion in this ayah - the structure/syntax to make it easier to understand the sentence Allah is saying you are not a madman, Muhammad Sallahu alaihi wa salaam, and this is a favor upon you. Forms of revelation In a dream When Jibril will come unto the Prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam, very tough on the Prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam. The sahabas will hear a bell, the Prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam will be sweating even if its cold. And when the people of Makkah used to pass by him and claim that he's crazy coz of how he's acting. Al-Baqarah 2 - Has 286 ayat, The ayat in the middle of the surah, 143, Allah said that "we have made you an ummah of moderation" Right in the middle of the surah. SubahanAllah.

68|3|
3. And verily, for you (O Muhammad) will be an endless reward.

Allah tells him to be patient Mamnoon Uninterrupted

68|4|
4. And verily, you (O Muhammad ) are on an exalted standard of character. -

- khuluk means character The prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam has the best character. He worked as a shepherd in his early stage of life - all prophets were shepherds at one point in their life, people who deal with the goats are very humble.

The Eternal Journey - Tafseer Juz Tabarak Page 11

very humble. When you deal with the goats, its a very difficult life, teaches you patience. Very important in making da'wah
He said that the best amongst you are those who best treats your wife We need to take the example of the Prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam on how he treat his wives The real meaning of compassion is to forgive & forget those who are bad to you Surah Al Mutaqeen- Ayat 113 onward Loyalty The prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam never forgets people who were good to him, regardless if they are muslims or non-muslims. How do we treat our own muslim brothers and sisters today? How do we treat our non-muslim neighbours? Mercy The prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam loved his grandchildren. One day he was giving the khutbah and Hassan was crawling in the masjid, he stopped his khutbah and picked him up and continued with his khutbah A prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam was praying and he heard a baby crying so he quickened the salah so that the parents could go back to the baby and check on him

68|5|
5. You will see, and they will see,

68|6|
6. Which of you is afflicted with madness.

68|7|
7. Verily, your Lord knows better, who (among men) has gone astray from His Path, and He knows better those who are (rightly) guided. Prohibition in giving in to the pressure of the disbelievers

68|8|
8. So (O Muhammad) obey not the deniers [(of Islamic Monotheism those who belie the Verses of Allah), the Oneness of Allah, and the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad), etc.]
- deniers Refers to the atheist / mushrikeen / hypocrites

68|9|
9. They wish that you should compromise (in religion out of courtesy) with them, so they (too) would compromise with you.

Softness Also refers to fat, which is soft Perfume

The Quraish wanted to bargain with the the Prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam that to make a deal. They will worship Allah one year and their god in another year and see what happens during that year. - So surah Al-Kafirun was revealed and Allah told us to never compromise our deen.

68|10|
10. And obey not everyone who swears much, and is considered worthless, 10. And do not obey every worthless habitual swearer Qualities of the people of Hell fire Deniers - deny Allahs right to be worshiped alo - deny the day of judgement

68|16|
16. We will brand him upon his snout

Leaves a mark

Trunk/snout of an animal - elephant. Nose in humans

When Al-Waleed Mughirah died in battle, they found him with a black mark on his snout. Umar Radiallahu anh, would thank Allah for a calamity for 4 reasons: 1. For not losing his faith 2. It could have been worse 3. It's expiation for my sins 4. Any lose after losing Prophet Muhammad sallahu alaihi wa salaam would be nothing. This is the greatest lose.

68|17|
17. Indeed, We have tried them (Quraish) as We tried the companions of the garden, when they swore to cut its fruit in the (early) morning

Story of the companions of the garden There were 3 young men and they had a father and they were blessed with a garden. The father was a pious man. On the harvest day, the pious man used to give zakah to the needy and poor. - Zakah - Surah One day he died and the children, questioned the need to give to the poor and needy. - Greed - Denying the rights of the poor and needy They planned to go to the garden at night/early morning so that their neighbours wont hear them.

68|18|
18. Without making exception. In books of tafseer, refers to not saying "insha'Allah" Did not realize/make an exception that something else might have happened if Allah had wills something else

68|19|
19. So there came upon the garden an affliction from your Lord while they were asleep.

So Allah, destroyed the garden at night after they made the intention to not share the wealth.

The Eternal Journey - Tafseer Juz Tabarak Page 13

68|22| 68|23| 68|24| 68|25|

If you have the intention to do so something bad, Allah will write it down as a bad deed, unless you turn around and Allah will change it into a good deed.

68|26|
They thought they were lost and got the wrong garden

Lost

68|27|
Now realize that it is indeed their garden

68|28|
Moderate (in reasoning) one among them Or the middle son, in terms of age

To glorify Allah

68|29|
They said, "Exalted is our Lord! Indeed we are wrongdoers"

68|30|
Then they approached one another, blaming each other. Start changing yourself, before blaming others.

68|31|
Tyrants What is the relationship between the people of Quraish and the people of the gardens? Allah has tested both of them. But the Quraish, rejected Allah, failed the test (but some accepted the truth) Lost in both dunya and akhirah The companions were tested, failed the test but they repented

68|34|
Indeed for the righteous with their Lord are the Gardens of Pleasures.

Allah will grant you gardensSSSS not just a garden A mother after a battle, ask the prophet salallahu alaihi wa saalaam about her son who died in battle. He said that not just one garden but many gardens.
In Jannah, no miserly husband, no nagging wife, complete HAPPINESS. We will be created in a different way in Jannah - The wife will praise and sing to the husband, everytime he comes home.

The Eternal Journey - Tafseer Juz Tabarak Page 14

- The wife will praise and sing to the husband, everytime he comes home. No old people in Jannah - Surah Al-Wakiah - the women will be young and virgins, no old age We will always be 33 Always healthy No death

Garden of complete bliss

68|35|
Then will We treat the Muslims like the criminals? Who are the criminals? Those who refuse to submit.

68|36|
How do you judge? These questions are all directed to the non believers.

68|37|
What have you learned in your scriptures?

68|38|
It is for you to choose (to believe or not to believe)

68|39|
39. Or you have oaths from Us, reaching to the Day of Resurrection that yours will be what you judge.

oath Plural of yameen

68|40|
Ask them Muhhammad which of them, for that (claim), is responsible

guarantee

68|41|
Or do they have partners? They let them bring their partners, if they should be truthful. How about people who live in isolation and Islam never reached them? Allah said, we will never punish them, without sending them a messenger Every person is born muslim - with the fitrah - coz its their parents that make them muslim or not. The Terror on the Day of Judgement

68|42|
The hypocrites will not be able to make sujood coz Allah will make their backs straight.
How can we know Allah? When Allah uncovers His shin.

68|43|
Their faces will be in distress and humiliation will be on their faces. In dunya they were called to make sujood. the munafiqeen will try to prostrate but they will fall on their back
For whoever denies the Qur'an

68|44|
-

Allah will tell the prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam to leave them alone and Allah will deal with them, ie they will be punished by Allah alone.

Refers to the Qur'an Usually means talk/conversation

68|45|
they will be lead on. every time they will think that they are secure (in their disbelief) "yumlii" means the rope/leash used to tie cattle. a rope that can be extended or made tighter

The Eternal Journey - Tafseer Juz Tabarak Page 15

"yumlii" means the rope/leash used to tie cattle. a rope that can be extended or made tighter

68|46|
46. Or is it that you (O Muhammad) ask them a wage, so that they are heavily burdened with debt?

68|47|
Do they know what will happen? The command to be PATIENT and to refrain from being hasty

68|48|
48. So wait with patience for the Decision of your Lord, and be not like the Companion of the Fish, when he cried out (to Us) while he was in deep sorrow. (See the Qur'an, Verse 21:87).

Be patient

Companion of the fish ie Yunus Alaihi as salaam - He was engulfed in 3 levels of darkness The belly of the whale The dark sea The night - He made dua' - Ya Allah, there is no God worthy of worship but you, I did injustice to myself. We should always made this dua' when we are in distress. la ila hailla anta subhanakainni kuntumminazzalimin

distressed

68|49|
If not for the favor from his Lord overtool him, he would have been thrown onto the naked shore

68|50|
50. But his Lord chose him and made him of the righteous. The effect of the EVIL EYE is real

68|51|
51. And indeed, those who disbelieve would make you slip with their eyes when they hear the message and they say, "Indeed he is mad." The prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam use to walk infront of the people of makkah, they had evil eye and he was about to slip.
Read surah Al-Falaq 113 To soften your heart, read the quran all the time, be in good companion.

The accusation of the disbelievers and the reply to them 68|52| 52. But it is nothing else than a Reminder to all the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 6/19/2011, 5:27 PM

Surah 69: al-Haqqah

Warning concernig the Greatness of the day of judgement Surah starts with Al-Haqqah Meaning stems from Haq - the truth The day that will inevitably happen.

69|1|
1. The inevitable reality The truth

69|2|
2. What is the inevitable reality?

69|3|
3. And what will make you know what the Reality is?

Mentioned 13 times in the Qur'an In surah Al-Qariah - one of the names of the day of judgement In Surahtul mursalat Allah will always explain after the mention of wa ma adraka "Wa ma yudrika" - mentioned 3 times Reference to the present Allah did not explain what will happen next after this, only He knows

The Eternal Journey - Tafseer Juz Tabarak Page 16

69|4|
4. Thamud and 'Ad people denied the Qari'ah [the striking Hour (of Judgement)]! Sent to Thamud- Prophet Salleh Sent to Adh - Prophet Hud Surah Hud (11)

Deny

Al-Qariah another name of the day of judgement

69|5|
Thamud they were destroyed by the overpowering blasting (sound)

Overpowering blast

69|6|
-

And as for 'Ad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind. The wind can be a blessing but here it is sent to destroy

Cold extreme

Extremely violent The people of Ad were extremely tall and strong - Like palm trees

69|7|
Allah sent the winds down to them continuously for 7nights and 8 days.

Exterminating Uninterrupted & successive Both meanings applies in this ayah. And when you look at them, they are dead, they are exactly like hollow palm trees. - Empty inside

69|8|
Can you see any remains in them? You can't see anything coz they are the denier of the day of Judgement

69|9|
And there came Pharaoh and those before him and overturned cities with sin.

The problem of Thamud, homosexuality

69|10|
They disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding in severity.

Allah put an end to them in a very violent way. - Jibril was sent to turn the city upside down

Disobeyed "Rasullu" Should be the messengers of Allah But they were sent one messenger (and all messengers came with the same one message) - and coz they disobeyed one messenger, they've disobeyed all of the messengers. (Surahtul Imran:19)
In a hadeeth, the prophet Sallahu alaihi wa salaam said that, we the messengers are brothers. Our message is the same, but our shariah (way of life to apply this) is different. The best shariah is Islam and it superseeds the rest of other shariahs. - At the time of Musa alaihi wa salaam, if you want to make tawbah, you have to be killed If you want to make tawbah and go back to your creator, they use to stand up in 2 lines and kill each other and Allah will bring them back to life again - But now to repent, all you have to do to make tawbah is to repent and ask Allah for repentance.

The Eternal Journey - Tafseer Juz Tabarak Page 17

They were taken to ? Severity? A reminder about the blessing of the Ship

69|11|
Indeed when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing ship. - The people of the Nuh, they are our salaf - By default, when they carried our ancestors, they carried us too. - This is a reminder to us

69|12|
12. That We might make it a remembrance for you, and the keen ear (person) may (hear and) understand it. This is a reminder to us

A mention of the Horrors and the Day of Judgement

69|13|
Then when the Horn is blown in one blast

69|14|
And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow The Prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam said, how can I enjoy life when I know that Israfel is getting ready to blow the horn anytime.

69|15|
Then on that Day, the Resurrection will occur. Al-Waqia' - another name of the day of judgment Al-Haqqa' Al-Qariah - Names of the day of Judgement in Suratul Haqqah

69|16|
And the heaven will split open for the Day it is infirm

69|17|
The angels will be at the edges of the skies as it splits opens and there will be 8 angels carrying the Throne of Allah.

The Children of Adam being presented to Allah

18. That Day you will be exhibited , not hidden among you is anything concealed You will be stark naked - Aisha' Radiallahu anh asked the prophet, will men and women be looking at each other? The prophet replied that they will be too afraid and will be in fear to think about anything else. - None of their deeds will be concealed. So he shall be in a life, well-pleasing. 22. In a lofty Paradise, 23. The fruits in bunches whereof will be low and near at hand. 24. "I wish, would that it had been my end (death)! 28. "My wealth has not availed me, 29. "My power and arguments (to defend myself) have gone from me!" 30. (It will be said): "Seize him and fetter him, 31. Then throw him in the blazing Fire. 32. "Then fasten him with a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits!" 33. Verily, He used not to believe in Allah, the Most Great, 34. And urged not on the feeding of Al-Miskin (the poor), 35. So no friend has he here this Day, 36. Nor any food except filth from the washing of wounds, 37. None will eat except the Khati'un (sinners, disbelievers, polytheists, etc.).

Nor is it the word of a soothsayer (or a foreteller/fortune teller), little is that you remember!

69|43|
43. From the words/revelation of Allah Omar Radiallahu anh, before he became a muslim, he wanted to kill the Prophet. He said, my journey to Islam came in stages. One night there was a woman who wanted to go to Madinah and join her husband, coz she became muslim. Omar saw her and asked her where was she going? She bravely told him that she wanted to leave the country and be with her husband. He was impressed If the donkey of the family of Omar ibn Khattab, accepted Islam, Omar himself will never accept Islam.
His own maid was a muslim and he enjoyed beating her up, until he became tired but she just kept on saying la illaha illahAllah. So he wondered what made this maid insistent on staying muslim. So one day he went out to have a drink with his friends, but could not find his friends. So he went to the ka'bah, coz he was so bored and depressed, when he reached there, someone was there praying and reciting the Quran. So he came close to the Ka'bah and saw the prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam reciting the Quran. Omar started to walk slowly on his toes to listen. And the Prophet was reciting surahtul Haqqa. Omar was convinced that this was just the words of a poet and the prophet recited exactly, 69|41| 69|42| 69|43| Omar went home and decided to kill the Prophet. He dipped his sword in poison. The next morning he went out to decide to kill the Prophet. On his way there, he met his friend who accepted Islam, but did not announce it. The guy asked him if he was not concerned if Bani Hashim will be his enemy. The guy then told him to go check on his sister first

Sister Fatimah binti Khattab Husband Said ibn .. If The Prophet Forged Anything Against Allah, Then Allah Would Have Punished Him (Verse 44-52) If Muhammad were to make up anything, we will hold him accountable

69|44|
44. And if Muhammad had made up about US some (false) sayings,

69|45|
45. We surely should have seized him by his right hand (or with power and might),

69|46|
46. And then certainly should have cut off his life artery (Aorta), The aorta - which will kill him in an instant. The prophet could have deleted a few ayats from the Quran (Surah Abasa) 1) Abdullah ibn Mahqtoom - blind man incident Abdullah ibn Mahq'toom, the blind man. Everytime, he comes around, the prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam will get up and clean the seat for him Welcome "the man whom Allah has" When the prophet leaves Madinah , Abdullah ibn Mahqtoom will lead the salah. (Surah Ahzab) ??? 2) No adopted son Zaid + marriage to Zainab incident - to prove there is not adoption in islam

69|47| 69|48| 69|49|

47. And none of you could withhold Us from (punishing) him. 48. And verily, this Qur'an is a Reminder for the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2). 49. And verily, We know that there are some among you that belie/deny (this Qur'an). [ Tafsir AtTabari, Vol. 29, Page 68]

69|50|
50. And indeed it (this Qur'an) will be an anguish for the disbelievers (on the Day of Resurrection).

69|51|
51. And Verily, it (this Qur'an) is an absolute truth with certainty .

Absolute Truth 3 degrees of Yakeen

1. 2. 3. 69|52|
52. So glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. So exalt the name of your Lord That is why we say this during ruku' in our salah. - Should not bow to anyone else except for Allah. - Complete humility is during the sujud Where our forehead and face is on the ground During the time of the prophet, no carpets. Dust in the faces. All praises due to my Lord, the most high and we are most low. We can never be humble and in such a state of humility, we can do to no one cept to Allah One of the sahabah, a beduin, ..ibn Amr, during the battle against the Persians. When you enter the palaces of the Persians, the doors are very low so that you will bow down to the rulers, so he turn his back when entering the palace. Then he pierced his sword into the expensive persian carpets. They asked, who are you? He replied that I am here to get you people out of the fabricated religion of injustice and get people out of this tight life and to the free spacious life of the akhirah. The ruler was speechless and could not speak.

But for the ummah of Muhammad sallahu alaihi wa salaam, when we do something bad, it is not written down right away. We are given about 6 hours, and in that time, if we were to repent, that bad deed wont be written down. And when we make tawbah, it will be erased. SubahanAllah. 1. We waste our time/life Jibril Israfil - blow the horn Mikail Ar-Ruh? Spirit or soul. When we die, our soul leaves our bodies. Our jasad will go back to the earth Our soul goes back to Allah Now we are nafs = combination of soul (ruh) + body (jasad) Other tafsir says that Ar-Ruh refers to Jibril. Allah might mention something in general and then mention something specific - to stress the importance/special/specific ones Jibril's assigned the task of delivering the revelation Example Nisa:163 Specify Nuh from amongst the prophets 50 thousand years In a hadeeth - the sun will come closer to the people on the day of judgement, only a mile away. Surah Al-Mudatthir - When the horn will be born, indeed that day will be very hard and difficult for the disbelievers. 1. Verily, We sent Nuh (Noah) to his people (Saying): "Warn your people before there comes to them a painful torment." Prophet Nuh - the first one after Prophet Adam Alaihi as salaam Gave da'wah for 950 years Ultimate patience Ul-azzal minal rasul Every prophet was sent to their own people alone. But Muhammad sallahu alaihi wa salaam was sent to Allah humanity & even the jinns. And after his passing we are to carry on the message with knowledge

Doing things gradually + having patience. We expect to happen instantly. Like how Allah created the heavens and the earth in 6 days. He could have done it in a blink of an eye. This a point of reflection for us. Insha'Allah. Ibadah is not confined in to your rituals

And to the Zalimun(polytheists, wrong-doers, and disbelievers, etc.) grant You no increase but destruction!" Default, dont make dua' against people, forgive and forget but in dire situations, you are allowed only in dire situation. For every prophet there is a dua' that is answered immediately by Allah. Some prophets have made it against it against their people. But the prophet muhammad sallahu alaihi wa salaam is saving his dua' for the day of judgement He will make sujud under the throne of Allah, and Allah will teach me a new dua' and Allah will said, "Seek intercession and it will be given to you" That is why after the azan we make that dua, that the prophet muhammad sallahu alaihi wa salaam will make intercession for us. Another evidence if the evil of the people is unbearable and widespread, you can make dua' against your enemy. During the battle of Badr, the prophet Muhammad salllahu alaihi wa salaam made dua' for one month - he made Qunut in every salat for a month, against the people who killed 6 of the hafiz that were sent to them to make da'wah. After 950 years of hard work of da'wah, Prophet Nuh said, Oh Allah, forgive my shortcomings, eventhough after achieving something, coz he realized that everything is from Allah. Humble yourself, even after you've done a good job.

Surah 72:al-Jinn (The Jinn)

Al-Jinn - root word means to cover Somebody called Majnoon - their mind is covered ie crazy, loco, cuckoo Jannah - there's lots of trees and it will give you shade and it will cover you. Al-Jinn created out of fire and we dont see them, Surah Al-A'raf 7:27 27. O Children of Adam! Let not Shaitan (Satan) deceive you, as he got your parents [Adam and Hawwa (Eve)] out of Paradise, stripping them of their raiments, to show them their private parts. Verily, he and Qabiluhu (his soldiers from the jinns or his tribe) see you from where you cannot see them. Verily, We made the Shayatin (devils) Auliya' (protectors and helpers) for those who believe not. Indeed he, shaitan, and his descendants, they see you but you cant see them. The prophet Salallahu alaihi wa salaam knew some dogs and snakes in madinah that were jinns. Narrated by Abu Hurairah, Where? Shayatin live in dirty, wastelands, uninhibited places When? Allah said that there were some people amongst mankind, they used to seek refuge from those amongst the jinn, so they were increased in burden and things were made difficult for them During the time of the prophet muhammad saw, the non muslims used to seek refuge in the jinns So when they use to say, I seek refuge in the .. Of the valley. So the jinns used to scare them by moving their luggage around.

When the angels were talking to each other, the jinns used to listen in. During the mission of the prophet SAW, all of the listening in, stopped. Out of the heavens, the flaming stars will shoot them down.

72|10|
10. 'And we know not whether evil is intended for those on earth, or whether their Lord intends for them a Right Path. They were not sure/dont know if this is good or evil for the people of earth. Jinns testify that among them are believers, disbelievers, the misguided and the guided.

72|11|
11. 'There are among us some that are righteous, and some the contrary; we are groups each having a different way (religious sect, etc.). There are good and bad jinns And the jinns confess to Allah's perfect power

72|12|
12. 'And we think that we cannot escape (from the punishment of) Allah in the earth, nor can we escape (from the punishment) by flight. 12. And we have become certain that we will never cause failure to Allah upon earth, nor can we escape Him by flight.

13. 'And indeed when we heard the Guidance (this Qur'an), we believed therein (Islamic Monotheism), and whosoever believes in his Lord shall have no fear, either of a decrease in the reward of his good deeds or an increase in punishment for his sins. The jinns making da'wah, for one to response to the call of Allah. If you believe in Allah, don't fear injustice. You will be given a reward and more.

72|14|
14. 'And of us some are Muslims (who have submitted to Allah, after listening to this Qur'an), and of us some are Al-Qasitun (disbelievers those who have deviated from the Right Path)'. And whosoever has embraced Islam (i.e. has become a Muslim by submitting to Allah), then such have sought the Right Path." There are muslims and non-muslims in the jinn species.

Surah Al-Mumtahinah 60:8 8. Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity. Gives us the law and rulings in dealing with the non muslims. As for those who do not fight you for your religion, be fair. 19. (It has been revealed to me that) When the slave of Allah (Muhammad) stood up invoking (his Lord Allah) in prayer to Him they (the jinns) just made round him a dense crowd as if sticking one over the other (in order to listen to the Prophet's recitation). 19. And that when the Servant of Allah stood up supplcating Him, they almost become about him a compacted mass.

When Ali was asked whos the bravest person? He answered, Abu Bakr RA. One day they were praying at the ka'bah and the disbelievers were surrounding them. Some were pulling and pushing them. So they ran away coz they were few in numbers. Only Abu Bakr stayed and protected the protected the prophet salallahu alaihi wa salaam. They left the prophet and they started beating the Abu Bakar until his whole face was swollen and he passed out. The tribe of Abu Bakar came and thought that Abu Bakr was dead. His mother attended to him and when he came back to conciousness, his mother wanted to offer him food. The first thing he said, where's the prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam. His mom was outraged, as he swore that he wouldnt eat until he saw his the prophet. They went to the house of AbuArqam the prophet started crying when he saw Abu Bakr. The prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam was giving a speech to the people about a man who was given two choices, either to live forever or to meet Allah. He chose to meet Allah. Upon hearing this, Abu Bakr RA started crying uncontrollably until the prophet could not continue his talk, the people were angry at him but the prophet was angry at the people and said that

Oh Allah, I want to be in control of the universe one day, so Allah said to him, I'll give you one year to accumulate provisions. So he had a large area to store provision 2. He spoke to the ant, how much food is enough for you? 2 grains of wheat. After one year, the box was opened and he found the ant still alive and found one grain of wheat left. Why is there one grain left? The ant answered that before when I was living in open, in the abundance of Allah, I was not afraid of Him forgetting me. But I was afraid that you would forget me when you imprisoned me in the box, so I save half of my food. Abu Hurairah radiallahu anhu Hurairah - root word Herra = cat Hurairah = small cat Abdul Rahman bin.. Very soft hearted. Every time the prophet sees him, he's surrounded by a lil cat. Abu Hurairah was assigned to guard the zakatul fitr. One night he found an old man stealing from the money. He said that he's poor and he's has a family, so Abu Hurairah let him go coz he's soft hearted. He told the prophet and the prophet told him that the old man will come again. Abu Hurairah arrested him this time round and he gave the same reason. Abu Hurairah was very soft hearted and let him go again. He then told the prophet and the prophet said, and he will come again. The 3rd night the man came again and Abu Hurairah caught him. The man then said I will teach you something to protect yourself from the shaitan. He said, recite Ayatul Kursi before you go to bed and you will be protected. He told the prophet, the prophet said, he's telling you the truth eventhough he's a liar. Nicknames very common in the arab culture. One day Ali and Fatimah had a disagreement. He then went to her father, the prophet salllahu alaihi wa salaam to complain. So he rested by the masjid to wait and his whole back was covered with dust (thurab) - the Prophet found him sleeping on his back and told him, Ya Abi Thurab, get up.

20. Verily, your Lord knows that you do stand (to pray at night) a little less than two-thirds of the night, or half the night, or a third of the night, and so do a party of those with you, And Allah measures the night and the day. He knows that you are unable to pray the whole night, so He has turned to you (in mercy). So, recite you of the Qur'an as much as may be easy for you. He knows that there will be some among you sick, others travelling through the land, seeking of Allah's Bounty; yet others fighting in Allah's Cause. So recite as much of the Qur'an as may be easy (for you), and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and give Zakat, and lend to Allah a goodly loan, and whatever good you send before you for yourselves, (i.e.Nawafil non-obligatory acts of worship: prayers, charity, fasting, Hajj and 'Umrah, etc.), you will certainly find it with Allah, better and greater in reward. And seek Forgiveness of Allah. Verily, Allah is OftForgiving, Most-Merciful. 20. Indeed, your Lord knows O Muhammad, that you stand in prayer almost two thirds of the night or half of it, and so do a group of those with you. And Allah determines the extent of the night and the day. He has known that you Muslims will not be able to do it and has turned to you in forgiveness, so recite what is easy for you of the Qur'an. He has known that there will be among you those who are ill and others travelling throughout the land seeking something of the bounty of Allah and others fighting for the cause of Allah. So recite what is easy from it and establish prayer The command to give charity and do good deeds and give zakaah and loan Allah a goodly loan. And whatever good you put forward fro yourselves, you will find it with Allah. It is better and greater in reward. And seek forgiveness of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. Surah 74: Al-Muddathir (The One Enveloped)

Most important thing about da'wah- to teach about monotheism, love, about the greatness of Allah Everything becomes easy after The azan reminds us that Allah is greater than everything. A sahabah would be holding an axe and after hearing the azan, he immediately dropped his axe and went for prayer. Another sahabah, was a blacksmith. After hearing the azan, he immediately dropped his hammer. - Both says that if they were to continue, it would be saying that what their doing is greater than Allah subahana wa ta'ala. The first ayah to be revealed the night after "read"

1. O you who covers himself with a garment

74|2|
2. Arise and warn Warn the people coz they are worshipping idols.

74|3|
3. And your Lord glorify Iqra' - the symbol of knowledge 1. The first command in the Quran is to seek knowledge Coz knowledge is light and it will lead you to Jannah. Ignorance is darkness. And then the revelation stopped for sometime The next surah to be revealed after is surah Muddathir. 2. Second command - is stand up 3. Spread that knowledge, do da'wah Third command - you need to establish a relationship with Allah by doing night prayers. Strong character as a da'ee Relationship with Allah, like Nuh alaihi as salaam.

1.Recite 2. Spread da'wah 3. Establish night prayer

74|4|
4. And your garments purify! We must make sure that our clothes and our HEARTS must be cleansed, purify them from dirt and shirk.

74|5|
5. And uncleanliness avoid. Stay away from idols The prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam was protected from all of this. Even before Islam, when he was 12years old, he had an opportunity to have fun but fell as

74|6|
And do not confer favor to acquire more 6. And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). La- present Lan - past Lam - future

- give something to get something more in return Dont do something in return for something When you do someone a favor, dont keep reminding the person of what you did for the person. 74|7|
7. And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! But for your Lord be patient Once you start makind da'wah/practicing islam, people will make fun of you, so (be patient) The prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam said "Islam started as a stranger, and at the end of time, it will become something weird and strange again." The prophet made dua' for the strangers. Fatimah used to say, Allahamdulillah, Allah has made men handsome by giving them the beard and women their hair.

If you're going to submit to Allah, be patient. And patience is the key to this life and hereafter. Reminder of the Day of Judgement -

74|8|
8. And when the trumpet is blown How can I enjoy life when I know that Israfil is looking to Allah when to blow the horn?

Story time Quraish was beseiging Madinah and it was very cold, freezing cold. The people of Makkah, Quraish was large in numbers. The muslims had a trench around Madinah (khandak) The prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam said, Who would go to the other camp and hear what they are planning and he would be in Jannah with me right beside me (signalling with his hand) He asked this 3 times and the 3rd time his hand landed on Hudaifah Hudaifah said, it was very cold, the moment I walked towards the other camp, I felt a special heating system around me. I was so warm as I was walking there. The prophet told him to not do anything but just gather information. As I arrived there, I saw Abu Sufyan, the leader of Quraish, I raised my arrow and was ready to shoot. But I remembered the command of the Prophet SAW to not do anything. So I kept my arrow and just joined the group. Abu Sufyan, who was very smart, looked around and told his people, I want to talk to all of you. But first I want everyone to introduce themselves. So when it came to Hudaifah, he turned to the people around him and got them to introduce themselves, turning the attention towards everyone else. So Hudaifah stayed and received the information he needed. As he headed back towards the muslim's camp, he started to feel the cold again. And then he shared with the prophet SAW what he wanted to share and he saw that Hudaifah was shivering again. He then took out his cloak and covered Hudaifah. He told Hudaifah to rest and sleep. Hudaifah was so tired and slept till fajr time. The prophet SAW came to him and told him to get up, "Get up, Nouman (Mr

him to get up, "Get up, Nouman (Mr Sleepy)"

That Day will be a difficult day - difficult Opposite of "Yassir" - easy Side not: The rights of a child, to be given a good name by the parents. So make sure u give a good name to your child.

74|10|
For the disbelievers, it's not going to be easy This means that for the believers, it'll be easier, insha'Allah Surah Anbiya 21:103 That great fear on the day of judgement, will not touch them (believers). And the angels will receive them with glad tidings (good news) Some other scholars says that there will be some difficulties, as seen in the hadith where the muslims will run to anbiya to anbiya, begging for intercession Another opinion quotes that the sun will be a mile away from everyone so there will be some difficulties for the muslims. A thread for Whoever claims that the Qur'an is Magic

11. Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! Al-Waleed Ibn Mughiraah (we spoke about him in Surah Al-Qalam, the qualities and characteristics of the people of hellfire.) Leave me alone with that person - I created alone or - That person will be alone on hellfire.

74|12|
12. And then granted him resources in abundance. Two great cities, Thaif(?) and Makkah (Waleed ibn Mugheerah,) these 2 people where the wealthiest in their cities.

And children present (with him) - present Opposite of "ghaib" Allah has given him, Waleed ibn Mugheerah, 13 children and all of them were living with him.

74|14|
14. And made life smooth and comfortable for him! And spread everything before him, easing his life Allah gives to test, when He gives doesnt mean He's pleased Giving is test, denying is also a test. Gratitude when given, patience when denied. The real life is in akhirah, insha'Allah

74|15|
Then he desires that I should add more

- "tamak" - greedy

74|16|
16. Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). No! Indeed he has been toward Our verses obstinate. Waleed Ibn Mugheerah was also a poet. So with the revelation of the Qur'an, he should have been able to reflect and appreciate the Qur'an even more. During the session of Hajj, the prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam used to take advantage of this, and make da'wah to all the people that comes to Makkah. However, Abu Lahab (father of the flame) (Abdul Uzza...) will be standing close to the prophet and tell the people who he just gave da'wah to, that he's crazy The Quraish used to plot against the Muslims at Darul Nadwa and come up with ways to shoot the Prophet SAW down. They came with all sorts of things, that the prophet was . Lost credibitlity, so Waleed Ibn Mugheerah was appointed to come up with one reason - unite all the non muslims to come up with one .. Waleed knew that the Quran was true, but denied it

Indeed, he thought and deliberated 18. Verily, he thought and plotted; - started thinking Waleed realized the Quran is true and right, but decided to deny it.

74|19|
19. So let him be cursed! How he plotted!

- cursed/ destroyed / laknat 74|20|

20. And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! How Waleed was going back and forth, we can see his psychology towards the whole issue. He knew that the Quran was the word of truth

74|21|
21. Then he thought;

74|22|
And he frowned and scowled

74|23|
23. Then he turned back and was proud;

- turning his back against the truth

1. Ignorance - if you dont know you will fall into this trap 2. Arrogance - some people will start to learn and they'll know but they'll turn their backs anyways 3. Personal Insterest - Lose power, status, business, wealth Waleed ibn Mugheerah was not ignorant, he turned his back out of arrogance and personal interest. Indeed me, once he's been

74|24|
And said, "This is not but magic imitated (from others)"

74|25|
This is not but the word of a human being These are the words of Muhammad, when previously he himself admitted that no one can make words like this.

74|26|
And I will drive him into Saqar

74|27|
And what can make you know what is Saqar?

29. Blackening the skins HELLFIRE 1000 years, lit till became blue 1000 years, lit till became white 000 years, lit till became black The Number of guardians of hell and what the disbelievers said about this

74|30|
Over it are nineteen angels

74|31|

31. And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Qur'an is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Qur'an is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example ?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind.

- as a test/trial (for the disbelievers)

Abu Lahab, mocked how little in numbers are the angels in hell.

The prophet Sallahu alaihi wa salaam once described one of the angels carrying the throne of Allah, his feet is on earth, with the throne extending

The Eternal Journey - Tafseer Juz Tabarak Page 37

carrying the throne of Allah, his feet is on earth, with the throne extending the 7 heavens. The distance between his shoulders, 700 years of travel. A teeth a disbeliever on the day of judgement will be size of the mountain of Uhud The chain that will be around the necks of the disbelievers will have rings. One ring on that chain will be the size of all the mountains on earth. The incident of Israa' and Mi'raaj, the first person he shared the news was with Abu Jahal. Abu Jahal obviously did not believed it. Abu Jahal then shared the news with Abu Bakar first. - Abu Bakar believed it instantly, coz he's witnessed the prophet receiving revelations and has been the prophet SAW's companion' Abu Bakar As Saddiq, the best man after all prophets. The first man to embrace Islam is Abu bakar. The first person to embrace islam -Khadeeja, a woman.

This will increase the certainty for the people of the book, coz its written in the torah that the gate keepers of the hell, is 19, In the Injil, it is also written that the keepers of hell is 19.

And whoever makes a vow to disobey Allah, then he should not disobey Him.) AlBukhari also recorded this Hadith from Malik. Surah 77: Al-Mursalaat (Those sent forth)

Revealed in the mountains of Minaa. - from tafseer ibn katheer (actually, the extended version of hadith in page 100): Al-Bukhari recorded from `Abdullah - that is Ibn Mas`ud -that he said, "While we were with the Messenger of Allah in a cave at Mina, this was the last surah recited before rasulullah passed away. it was recited during maghrib prayers Allah's swearing by different creatures about the occurrence of the Hereafter.

Allah SWT talks about two jobs of the angels in this surah. Quote the aayat. 77:4-5, descend with criterion and deliver message The Fariqat that separate, the Mulqiyat that remind, excusing or warning.) meaning, the angels. This was said by Ibn Mas`ud, Ibn `Abbas, Masruq, Mujahid, Qatadah, Ar-Rabi` bin Anas, As-Suddi and Ath-Thawri. There is no difference of opinion here, because they (the angels) are the ones who descend with Allah's command to the Messengers, separating between the truth and falsehood, guidance and misguidance, and the lawful and the forbidden. They bring the revelation to the Messengers, which contains exemption or absolvement for the creatures and a warning for them of Allah's torment if they oppose His command.

Even if we spend the rest of our lives prostrating to Allah, we can never repay Allah's blessing A man who worshipped Allah for 500 years w/o disobeying him. The angels will then come to him and told him, enter jannah due to Allah's mercy. He then said, hold on, how about my deeds? The angels then said, that the instructions from Allah is that you can enter jannah only with His mercy. So they took a scale: His 500 years of worship VS one blessing (his eyesight) and his eyesight just one blessing of Allah, is waaaaaaaaay heavier than all his deeds. Then Allah said, well, this is what you asked for. So here you go to hell fire. As he was walking to hell fire, he kept looking at Allah and Allah asked why are you looking at Me? The man then said, Oh Allah, I only thought highly of you. I didnt think You'd throw me to hellfire. The man was then placed in Jannah coz he only thought good of Allah.

What is one of the main things this surah entices us to ponder upon? the rewards that await the muhsinin and the humiliation that will be faced by the disbelievers those that the deniers will be subjected to - so avoid the traits of the deniers? Even if we spend the rest of our lives prostrating to Allah, we can never repay Allah's blessing What can we (the Muslims) use as an explanation to a person who disbelieves in resurrection who asks us to prove to him whether or not resurrection will take place?

Rather man, against himself will be a witness There will come a man on the day of judgement, Allah will bring his record and he will refuse it as he claims that I have no witness but me. So Allah will allow him and then seals his mouth so every organ in his body, his hand, eyes will talk And then the person will curse himself and is outraged why did you speak against me? ...

75|15|
Even if he presents his excuses. How the Prophet received the revelation 75|16| Oh Muhammad do not move your tongue and repeat. Don't worry. Just listen coz we will combine it in your heart and you will memorize it. Jibril will teach the prophet sallahu alaihi wa salaam the recitation of the Quran. Question In verse 16, the flow of the Surah is interrupted and the Prophet (SAW) is reminded that he shouldn't rush to memorize the Qur'an. There are two other surahs in the Qur'an where the Prophet (SAW) is reminded this. Name one of them. 1) Al-Muzammil:4 2) Taha, 20:114 114. Then High above all be Allah, the True King. And be not in haste with the Qur'an before its revelation is completed to you, and say: "My Lord! Increase me in knowledge.'') The cause of rejecting the day of judgement is love of the dunya and heedlessness of the hereafter Love of the dunya

deeds], but (you men) love the present life of this world, 21. And leave (neglect) the Hereafter. Seeing Allah ta'ala in the Hereafter (this is the greatest reward in the Hereafter.)

22. Some faces that Day will be radiant,

75|23|
23. Looking at their Lord. Blackening of the faces of the disobedient People of the day of judgement Believers Faces of the believers will look at Allah's face. And their faces will be radiant and bright. Disbelievers Blackening of the faces of the disobedient people on the day of judgement

75|24|
The faces of the disbelievers will be blackened and contorted based on tafseer ibn katheer: (And some faces that Day will be Basirah. Thinking that some calamity is about to fall on them.) These are the faces of the sinners that will be Basirah on the Day of Judgement. Qatadah said, "This means gloomy.'' As-Suddi said, "Their (the faces) color will change.''

75|25|
Hit the back bone - something will be done to them - backbreaking tafseer ibn katheer, it is translated as (that some calamity is about to fall on them.) Mujahid said, "A disaster.'' Qatadah said, "An evil.'' As-Suddi said, "They will be certain that they are going to be destroyed.'' Ibn Zayd said, "They will think that they are going to enter into the Hellfire.'' Certainty will occur at the time of death; a person's conditon at the time of death and the terrors it contains The coming of death

75|26|
No! When the soul has reached the collar bones

- collar bone 75|27|

Who will cure him? cure Nay, when it reaches to the collarbones. And it will be said: "Who can cure him) `Ikrimah reported from Ibn `Abbas that he said, "Meaning, who is the person who recites divine prayers of healing so that he may come and cure him'' Abu Qilabah made a similar statement when he said,

" 75|28|

"

And the dying one is certain that it is the time of death

75|29|
And the leg is wound about/around the other leg

75|30|
30. To your Lord that Day will be the procession. The case of the denier 75:31-35

75|31| 75|32| 75|33| 75|34| 75|35|

31. So he (the disbeliever) neither believed (in this Qur'an, in the Message of Muhammad) nor prayed! 32. But on the contrary, he belied (this Qur'an and the Message of Muhammad) and turned away! 33. Then he walked in full pride to his family admiring himself! 34. Woe to you [O man (disbeliever)]! And then (again) woe to you! 35. Again, woe to you [O man (disbeliever)]! And then (again) woe to you! Man will not be left neglected

75|36|
Neglected = not resurrected from tafseer ibn katheer: (Does man think that he will be left neglected) AsSuddi said, "Meaning not resurrected.'' Mujahid, Ash-Shafi`i and `AbdurRahman bin Zayd bin Aslam, all said, "Meaning, he will not be commanded and prohibited.'' Apparently the Ayah includes both meanings. This means that he will not be left neglected in this worldly life, without being commanded and prohibited. He also will not be left neglected in his grave unattended to

prohibited. He also will not be left neglected in his grave unattended to without being resurrected. Rather he will be commanded and prohibited in this life, and gathered back to Allah in the abode of the Hereafter. The intent here is to affirm the existence of the abode of the final return and to refute whoever rejects it from the people of deviance, ignorance and stubbornness. You have no excuse coz you've been sent messengers. And Allah will remind us of our beginning - from the sperm and clingling clot (stagese of creation)

75|37|
37. Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?

75|38|
Then he was a clinging clot, and Allah created his form and proportioned him.

75|39|
And made of him two mates, the male and the female.
