Year of Faith
You Choose: Fear or Faith
In the third chapter of his best-selling book, The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren asks the question, What Drives Your Life? He then suggests five things which drive most peoples lives: Guilt, anger/resentment, fear, materialism, and the need for the approval of others. We could all likely come up with other answers but this is a good start. The authors point, of course, is that it would be far wiser to let our lives be driven by Gods purpose. Similarly, the scriptures today invite us to let our faith be the driving force in our lives. Abraham earned the title Father of Faith because, as the Letter to the Hebrews tells us, he decided that the promise God made to him was worthy of his trust! What have you decided about the promises of God? How you answer that question will determine whether or not you will wait around for those promises to be fulfilled. Walking by faith is really mastering the art of waiting for God to come through for you in every circumstance; stubbornly refusing to give up on God no matter what happens or what things seem. Be like those who awaited the Masters return Jesus says. In other words, be like those who never stop expecting God to intervene! Be like those who never stop expecting God to turn trials into triumphs, vice into victory, adversity into teaching moments, set-backs into set-ups for opportunities for far greater than ever thought possible! Do not be afraid any longer, little flock! Jesus insists! Notice he says, any longer. Before him, we had every reason to be fearful, doubtful, and hopeless. We had lots of reasons to be led by your fears. But at some point each person needs to come to the realization that fear is a terrible navigator for your life! Its time to let the Good Shepherd lead you to the life he always wanted you to have; a life of meaning and significance. A life where the previously impossible became actually accessible. Dont let your fears steal away the possibilities of your life. If fear is your chauffer it is time to fire your driver! Father Patrick A Smith 2013
