NIOEC-SP-47-32(2)

6.4.1 Piping shall be of metallic non-combustible material having physical and chemical characteristics such that its deterioration under stress can be predicted with reability. The following materials can be used : Black or Galvanized steel pipe shall be either ASTM seamless or electric welded, Grade A or B . in system using high-pressure supply using, in and smaller pipe shall be permitted to be schedule 40. Pipe is 1 in. though 4 in. shall be a minimum of schedule 80. In system using lowpressure supply, pipe shall be a minimum of schedule 40. 6.4.2 The following provides criteria for fittings for high and low pressure systems. a) High pressure systems class 300 malleable or ductile iron fittings shall be used through 2 in. Internal Pipe Size (IPS) and forged steel fittings in all larger sizes. Flanged joints upstream of any stop valves shall be class 600. flanged joints downstream of stop valves or in systems with no stop valves shall be permitted to be class 300. b) Low - pressure systems. Class 300 malleable or ductile iron fittings shall be used through 3 in. IPS and 1000 Lb ductile iron or forged steel fittings in all larger sizes.
