The Irish Cabinet has reached an agreement on a controversial bill on abortion for the first time after Indian dentist Savita Halappanavar died in 2012 following a miscarriage. Internet search giant Google placed the name Palestine on the search engine instead of Palestine Territories. Najib Razak, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, retained his power.

Ratchanok Intanon and Lee Chong Wei won the womens and mens single titles respectively in India open super series badminton championship 2013. Serena Williams of USA won the WTA Family Circle Cup 2013. National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) gave clean chit to Olympic medalist Vijendra Singh. Amit Kumar of India won the 55kg freestyle Gold medal in the Asian wrestling championship 2013 in New Delhi. Amit Dhankhar of India clinched the Gold medal in 66kg freestyle at the Asian wrestling championship 2013. Novak Djokovic won the Monte Carlo Masters tennis tournament 2013 by beating Rafael Nadal. West Indies batsman Chris Gayle of Royal Challengers Bangalore creates a history by hitting a fastest century in 30 balls. Haryana won the National womens hockey championship 2013 in Lucknow.

Prize and Award winners
Bollywood legent Pran was honoured with the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award. Famous Telugu writer Dr. Ravuri Bharadwaja has been selected for the prestigious Jnanpith award for the year 2012. Major Anup Joseph Manjali has been honoured with the Kirti Chakra, the second highest peacetime gallantry award. Ms. Aparajita Dutta of India has been conferred the prestigious Whitley Award, which is known as the Green Oscar by the Royal Geographical Society, London.

Science and Technology

Scientist at the Princeton University, USA unveiled a bionic ear which can hear radio frequencies beyond the range of normal human capacity. Russia has launched bio-satellite BION-M1 packed with an array of mice and other small creatures to study the effects of long flights on living organisms.
