ISSUE NO.: 01

1.0 Applicable Codes 1.1: API 598, 6th Ed. Sept 1990

2.0 Scope This procedure covers the pressure test requirement for gate, globe and check valve.

2.1) Shell Test

2.1.1) Valves shall be backseat fully open and end valve shall be blinded by blind flange. 2.1.2) The valves than pressurized gradually to the test pressure. 2.1.3) Holding pressure shall be as per Table 4A of API 598 2.1.4) The pressure shall be maintained and inspection for any visible leakage. 2.1.5) Any leak found during the shell test may be repaired by tightening the bolts on the shell body. 2.1.6) Pressure gauge shall be located upstream of the first valve. The pressure gauge used shall be 1.5 times higher than the test pressure.

2.2)

Backseat Test

2.2.1) Blind flange at the End valve shall be remove in order to visual the backseat 2.2.2) End valve backseat shall be fully closed. Other than End valve, backseat shall be fully opened. 2.2.3) The valves then pressurized gradually to the test pressure. 2.2.4) Holding pressure shall be as per Table 4A of API 598 2.2.5) The pressure shall be maintained and the backseat shall be visually inspected for any leakage. 2.2.6) End valve shall be removed after the backseat test and subsequent valve shall backseat test.

Test Method

3.1 3.2 3.3 3.4 3.5

Test fluid for the test shall be potable water. Shell test pressure shall be as per Table 2 of API 598 or as per client requirement. The valve shall be essentially free from air during test. For shell and backseat test, no visible leakage is permitted. For valves of similar size and test pressure, all valves shall be connected in series and tested individually and progressively.

4.0

Acceptance Criteria.

Visual inspection shall be conducted during the holding period. Any leakage observed during either the backseat and shell test will be considered as non-acceptance. However, tightening of bolts and re-testing for shell test is possible.
