NAME: ROLL NO: SEMESTER: 5th

EXERCISE 1
AIM

Setting up of drawing environment by setting drawing limits, drawing units, naming the drawing naming layers, setting line types for different layers using various type of lines in Engineering drawing, saving the file with dwg. extension.
SETTING DRAWING LIMITS

When the zoom command is chosen, defined limits. Limits can be thought AutoCAD drawing area is, in theory, AutoCAD will continue to give you the

Auto CAD zooms to the extent of the user of as the extent of the drawing area. The infinite. As long as you continue to draw, drawing space.

1. Type limits directly into AutoCAD's command line. You will be asked to specify the lower left co-ordinates (remember - in relation to the UCS). Hit enter to accept the default value of 0.0000, 0.0000. 2. AutoCAD now wants us to specify the upper right limit co-ordinates. There is no right or wrong value, but it should be set to a sensible value for the drawing size. Our drawing is only 0.52m x 0.37m. Lets enter an upper limit of say, 1m, and 1m from the UCS. Enter 1, 1 into the command line and hit enter.
SETTING DRAWING UNITS

Every object you draw is measured in units. You can set the unit type and number of decimal places for object lengths and angles. You can also specify the units for blocks and other content you insert from AutoCAD DesignCenter. Drawing unit settings control how AutoCAD interprets your coordinate and angle entries and how it displays coordinates and units in the drawing and in dialog boxes. Use Units command to open this window and change units.

WORKING WITH LAYERS

Use layers to logically organize the objects in the drawing and to enforce line type, colour, and line weight standards. When you group objects into layers, you can then control these objects by controlling the single layer. For example, if you put all the dimensions on a single layer, you could chose to hide these dimensions simply by freezing that layer. In short, layers will give you more options to control the appearance, editing, and plotting of the drawing entities. You can control the followings: 1. Whether objects of any layer should be visible or not. 2. Whether objects of any layer should be plotted or not. 3. How the lines will appear and be plotted. 4. Whether objects of any layer should be editable or not.

Type layer in the command line or click on the layer properties icon to get the Layer Properties Manager dialog box as seen at left. Initially you will get only one layer (layer 0).

To create an additional layer, click the New Layer icon of the Layer Properties Manager dialog box or alternatively press Alt + N. Difference between off and freeze: If you turn off any objects it can still hide the objects under it, but if you freeze any objects it will not hide any other objects under it. Freeze/Unfreeze takes more time than on/off.

1. Lock: This button is the lock/unlock toggle. By locking a layer you can protect the objects of it from editing. 2. Color: Default color of the objects of a layer could be set from here. 3. Linetype: From here, you can set the default linetype of objects of a layer. 4. Lineweight: What the thickness of line you want while plotting is set from here. 5. Plot: By toggling the icon under this tab, you will set whether objects of a layer are printable or not.
SAVING THE FILE

Use the Save command to save your drawing. The first time you save a drawing, the Save Drawing As dialog box appears. Navigate to the folder where you want to store the drawing, enter a file name, followed by .dwg and select Save. To save a drawing with a different name, select Save As. Or, alternatively use shortcut ctrl + s.

EXERCISE 2
AIM

Layout drawing of a building using different layer and line colours indicating all Building details name the details using text commands, Make a title Block.

EXERCISE 4
AIM

Make an Isometric dimensioned drawing of a connecting Rod using Isometric grid and snap.

EXERCISE 5
AIM

Draw a spiral by extruding a circle.

STEPS

1. draw a circle of 2 inch diameter 2. From the centre of circle draw a helix of inner and outer diameter 20 inch. 3. Increases the number of turns to 8 using drop down menu. 4. Let the height be 40 inch. 5. Use sweep command. Select the circle and sweep it around the helix. This will give you are spiral.
