Words from your Pastor: JUNE BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES
Birthdays:
Worship at Seminole Heights certainly garners folks attention nowadays. June 9 April Rodesiler June 19 Marium Christensen
Maybe I’ve stirred up a hornet’s nest, but I earnestly and prayerfully sought God’s June 10 Ezra Heitz June 21 Megan Park
directions in these matters and landed with my recommendations about our June 16 Robert Blanchard June 25 Tana Bierce
congregation ALL worshipping together in one, blended pattern as we celebrate God’s June 17 Robert Carr Kayla Hertling
presence and power among us at SHUMC. Annabelle Dobbs
However, it appears, like most of the church experts advised,‖ a blended worship Dottie Gates
only makes everyone upset—pleasing no one!‖ I designed a survey, using the online David Smith
survey-building software—SurveyMonkey—to collect thoughts and ideas from our
congregation. While we have to date (June 1) received only 14 responses (probably Anniversaries:
not enough to really gauge people’s corporate ―feelings about worship‖), the ones that June 1 Larry and Carole Blankenship
we have are definitely split—either for ―traditional‖ worship with organ and anthems June 5 Tim and Deborah Witham
and hymns and preaching or for ―contemporary‖ worship with praise music, dramas, June 6 Greg and Karen Vondruska
,artistic displays, children’s stories, and less emphasis on sermons. For what it is worth, June 9 Jacob and Lorrie Cole
from this pastor’s perspective: ―traditional‖ means worship from the 1900’s and June 10 Jim and Cindi Hughlett
―contemporary‖ means what I would label a ―soft rock‖ style—rather than full-blown, June 21 Todd and Donna Spear
culturally relevant praise and media focused worship. June 27 Glenn and Gaye Bosley-Mitchell
Bill and Eileen Nystrom
Where do we go?—to God of course! Let me invite all of us to seek God’s
wisdom and direction for our worship patterns here at our church. I will as well. Let’s
see where God wants us to go. For the summer, we will continue our blended pattern
with one time of worship. Our attendance for one service is comparable to attendance Memorial Gifts
in both services over the past two years and Sunday School attendance (so far) is up Given in memory of Celeste McConnell (Thru June 1)
each week from the past two years. As approved by our Church Council, our current Chapel Class Gretchen McCall
plan is to have a mid course evaluation late in the summer and determine our worship Ronnie & Betty Sue Mason Paul & Kathryn Koenig
pattern for starting in September or October. Please take this matter to God in your Nellie Ruth Williams Regina Matthews
prayers. Scott & Cathy Whittaker Joann Garma
Jan Kiminis Platt S. A. & Jacquie Wallace
Speaking of the Summer, I plan on preaching a ―Summer Sermon Series‖ on Charlie & Pat Fisher
King David from 1st & 2nd Samuel and 1st Kings. This summer the three-year cycle of Chapter 109, NARFE
bible readings used in worship (the Lectionary) has continuous Old Testament readings Terrell & Neva Sessums
on these David stories and I will be following them beginning on Sunday, June 14. I George & Joyce McConnell
hope you will read or re-read the stories of David in your worship preparation for the Evelyn Burry
summer. Cletus Ehrlacher
