This Week In History! 

 
This is an old newspaper article that alerted the world that the United States was 
developing a new weapon of epic proportion that up until then was kept secret. The 
time was World War II. America and the Allied Forces were in a war with the Axis. 
As the war escalated the weapon technology escalated. Soon Germany was 
developing a weapon of atomic proportion. America needed to counter, however the 
plan was halted when his colonel Clause Von Stauffenberg, murdered the Fuhrer of 
Germany, Adolf Hitler. Imagine if America decided to unleash the weapon they

Possibly the cruelest leader to walk the earth, Adolf Hitler was murdered on the 20 
of July in 1944. Which not only had a major impact on Germany, but America also. 
Hitler was the leader of the Axis, the anti‐ Allied Forces. He was responsible for the 
terror that is the holocaust. He also is responsible for the nuclear arms race even 
that was halted the moment he was murdered. Hitler’s officer Clause Von 
Stauffenberg led the resistance; he detonated a bomb in a bomb shelter where Hitler 
was supposed to have a meeting, killing him instantly. This led cutting the holocaust 
short and Clause overpowering the rest of the Hitler officials to become the new 
Fuhrer and bring Germany back to prominence. A treaty between Germany and the 
Allied Forces after Hitler’s assassination that halted the development of nuclear 
arms, and ended World War II. Therefore you could say Clause Von Stauffenberg 
killed the atomic bomb along with Hitler.

This is the man known simply is Germany’s Santa Claus. His name is Clause Von 
Stauffenberg, the man who killed Adolf Hitler on July 20, 1944. He is the man who 
changed history of warfare. If Clause didn’t kill Hitler, America might have dropped 
their atomic bomb and started the atomic age, because intelligence had gotten to 
Germany that the United States had already finished their bombs. However, 
Stauffenberg removed the catalyst of the war, If it weren’t for him the Holocaust 
would have continued, the atomic age would have begun, and who knows where 
America and the rest of the world would be. This is surely a milestone in American

NEWSWEEK’s PERSON OF THE YEAR: 
The United Nations 

 
 
 
 
 
 
  
The person, or should we say persons of the year for Newsweek magazine is the 
United Nations. The UN is the official successor of the League of Nations, which had 
completely fallen apart during before World War II. The UN was formed at the end 
of World War II to help maintain world peace and avoid another World War. The UN 
also serves as a lawmaking body for the world. This year they passed a law that once 
again stopped the nuclear bomb from being finished. The question arises. What 
makes the UN so successful? This all dates back to the end of World War II. The UN 
arranged the treaty between the most powerful countries of the war, the United 
States and Germany. Clause Von Stauffenberg, the man who killed Hitler had 
proposed the treaty. Although the UN ratified much of the original treaty they 
managed to keep something that changed the course of history, and helped the UN 
get closer to the purpose of the organization. The UN kept the request that both the 
Germans and America destroy all nuclear weapon technology immediately. This 
eliminated any chance of a nuclear war. Now that we know how dangerous atomic 
particles are and nuclear technology is, we must acknowledge Clause and the UN for 
making world peace a much easier goal to reach by eliminating the weapon that 
possibly could have started World War III in the wrong hands. If you want to learn
