TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT AND NAMASMARAN (JAP, JAAP, JIKRA, SUMIRAN, SIMARAN; i.e. remembering God or true SELF) 14: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR Patient: Last time you said; I may not use the word "must"! But if you are convinced, then you certainly would NAMASMARAN and Total Stress Management; joyously, victoriously and on war footing! But dont you think; the paintings, sculptures, music, dramatics, dances, sports, cuisines etc; make life wonderful; even without NAMASMARAN and Total Stress Management? Doctor: They do make it wonderful! But it becomes far more wonderful noble and benevolent; in the enlivening, rejuvenating, harmonizing and unifying influence of NAMASMARAN and Total Stress Management! Patient: I understand! Life would remain petty and mean; and devoid of the unifying cosmic consciousness; in absence of NAMSMARAN and Total Stress Management. Doctor: Now you get it! Patient: Really; there is no sense in wasting time; in merely hoping for the already stressed and helpless leaders; to include the study, research, practice and training of NAMASMARAN and Total Stress Management in curriculums! Doctor: It is interesting to note that stress has become even greater killer because of: A) Inadequate research, B) Inadequate understanding C) Lack of awareness D) Misconceptions and dogmas about the nature, gravity and management of stress; amongst the experts E) Wide spread apathy F) Lack of readiness to recognize, concede, accept and manage stress; due to shame and shyness, G) Prevalence of quackery, which complicates the problem of stress and its management! H) Non-availability of Total Stress Management experts Patient: Sir! You have made the picture clear and opened a new way! But why do you say that stress cannot be cured or eradicated; and it can only be managed? Doctor: This is because; stress is inseparable from our physiological, social, economic, cultural and political life! It is like MAYA! But it is wonderful and marvelous if we manage it and it is ghastly if we fail! Patient: Isnt the stress; if we manage, like a shadow, which follows us harmlessly; and like a ghost that persecutes us, if mismanaged? Doctor: To some extent; yes! But we will discuss it in depth; next time!

TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT AND NAMASMARAN (JAP, JAAP, JIKRA, SUMIRAN, SIMARAN; i.e. remembering God or true SELF) 13: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR Doctor: Stress influences every cell of the body; to a greater or lesser extent. As a result; it predisposes an individual to a variety of problems! Besides predisposing to many diseases, it can actually cause many diseases. Lastly; it can aggravate already existing diseases; thereby increasing the morbidity and mortality. Patient: Can you please give an example? Doctor: Stress can actually cause as well as aggravate diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus in turn; makes an individual susceptible to infections e.g. tuberculosis. Because of this all the family members, neighbors and colleagues of the patient are at a risk! In addition, diabetes is many times associated with a number of complications such as retinopathy, cataract, (complications of eye), neuropathy, (complications of nerves), nephropathy, (complications of kidney), gangrene (Gangrene means death and putrefaction of a part of body necessitating removal of that part (amputation) for survival) etc. All this suffering leads to weakness and fickleness of mind! We lose the capacity to meet and fight the challenges! Patient: Why dont we find all this about Total Stress Management; in the mainstream educational curriculums? Doctor: The policy makers and the leaders in educational field also are stressed! Thus their perception, feelings and behavior is also distorted and deranged; leading; to development of individualistic education with petty pursuits! Patient: I see! Now I understand why you insist on practice and promotion of NAMASMARAN! Doctor: NAMASMARAN entails the associated measures embodied in Total Stress Management. Patient: So we must practice and promote, practice and promote and practice and promote!!! Doctor: I may use the word "must"! But if you are convinced, then you certainly would do so, joyously, victoriously and on war footing! Patient: Can we conquer the ignorance and apathy and NAMASMARAN and Total Stress Management? Doctor: Of course! We can and we will! It is writing on the wall! Patient: Next time; will you please inspire and enlighten me further? Doctor: I will try my best!

TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT AND NAMASMARAN (JAP, JAAP, JIKRA, SUMIRAN, SIMARAN; i.e. remembering God or true SELF) 12: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR Patient: You had mentioned that forgetfulness of our true SELF is the root cause and hence nothing else but the process of reaching our true SELF is the remedy! Doctor: Yes! NAMASMARAN is the remedy. This is because it is associated with transcendental perspective, thinking, feelings and behavior. In other words, it is associated with global vision, policy making, plans, programs and their implementation. Patient; This may be called SADDHARANA, SADVICHAR, SADBHAVANA, SATPRAVRUTI, SADVASANA, SATSANKALP AND SATKARMA or SADACHAR. Right? Doctor: Yes! Absolutely! Patient: How does disorientation from true SELF leas to all this? Doctor: As a result of being caricatures of ourselves we go berserk, trying to seek happiness and fulfilment in every kind of indulgence! But all our efforts go in vain and we keep slogging in turbulent emptiness! We become chaotic ourselves and multiply the chaos around! We get frustration and spread the same! We become cynical and spread cynicism! Patient: So we ourselves multiply stress and make it the greatest killer! Can you explain how it ruins our health? Doctor: Yes! Next time we will see how stress harms the body and how diseased body adds to stress!

TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT AND NAMASMARAN (JAP, JAAP, JIKRA, SUMIRAN, SIMARAN; i.e. remembering God or true SELF) 11: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR Patient: Sir! Last time you explained; why stress does not get noticed. Moreover; is it not true that the extent of stress is variable? Doctor: Yes. The effects of stress vary in accordance with the individuals perceptions, his/her homeostatic machinery (Homeostatic machinery exists right from the time of fertilization of ovum and sperm. It develops into several organs & tissues which work in a coordinated manner to keep the internal environment constant [within normal range] and the nature, intensity, frequency, duration and number of stressors acting at a time and the complexity of the stressors. Patient: Do you mean to say that the extent of energy, passions, sensitivity, intelligence and perspective of an individual would determine the extent of stress? Doctor: Yes! But besides all these; the actual physiological constitution (genotype and phenotype) also determine the effects of stress. All these are referred to as SANCHIT! Patient: What is genotype and phenotype? Doctor: Genotype is like seed, where the life is not expressed and phenotype is like a tree, where life is expressed. Patient: Because of TV and internet the stimuli bombarding on our mind have multiplied in rapidity and complexity! Doctor: Yes! As we have forgotten our true SELF, we have become disoriented caricatures of ourselves! We have become desperate to achieve petty personal gains! Patient: So we ourselves add to the stressors in the form of spreading lies! Am I right? Doctor: You said it! Hence NAMASMARAN is the reversal of the forgetfulness and disorientation of true SELF! It is the process of reversal of the root cause of stress! Patient: So, do all these factors determine; the extent of stress and its effects on the life of an individual and the environment? Doctor: Yes! Environment includes physical e.g. global warming, chemical e.g. pollution, biological e.g. mosquitoes, the family e.g. domestic violence, working place e.g. nepotism, society e.g. riots! Patient: Sir! Now I am eager and keen to learn more about all this! Doctor: Surely! Patient; Sir! Please explain to me elaborately the root of cause of stress, why and how it is the greatest killer and also the greatest destroyer; and how to begin Total Stress Management! Doctor: Surely! In fact this process of understanding is the first step in Total Stress Management; helping me also!

TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT AND NAMASMARAN 10: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR Doctor: Some of the reasons for not noticing stress are as follows. 1. Stress usually being a slow process, acts like a slow poisoning and hence goes on unnoticed until it acquires serious dimensions. 2. Many of us suffer from stress and attribute the effects of stress to more apparent things such as infection (which itself can result due to stress!). You can understand this if you appreciate the fact that we see the dust particles moving in a dust storm but we do not see the

force of wind, which actually is the cause of the movement of the particles! The STRESS is like this unseen, enemy! Therefore it gets ignored. 3. The word STRESS, is used by any body and every body, without understanding, its meaning. This is similar to the usage of words such as democracy, socialism, secularism etc. This gives us a wrong impression that we know everything about it. As a result most of us develop a false notion that we can manage it without anybodys help. This is in fact one of the greatest illusions, or one of the greatest myths of all times. 4. Most of us are habituated to put up a brave face even when we are suffering! Many times, this is because of shyness, feeling of shame and so on. 5. We try to hide our sufferings i.e. stress because of the fear that we may be insulted, humiliated, ridiculed, pitied, sympathized or even exploited. 6. Other reasons are more obvious; such as illiteracy, poverty, lack of time, lack of information, lack of dialogue, lack of communication, lack of curiosity, apathy and so on (which are actually due to stress) Patient: Why don't we learn all this in schools and colleges? I would like to know more! Doctor: Sure! We will go to the root of stress and its management!

TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT AND NAMASMARAN 9: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR Patient: Sir! I have reasonably understood the nature of stress! I have also somewhat understood the role of Total Stress Management! Actually how many of us suffer from STRESS? Doctor: Every one of us suffers from stress. Patient: All of us? Doctor: Yes! Life in every living being; is an extension of cosmic consciousness or cosmic life! This consciousness is intricately associated or rather trapped in the properties of physical matter! Physical matter (neurotransmitters, hormones, enzymes and other molecules and the interactions amongst them) has the property of entropy (atrophy, degeneration, degradation, disruption, deterioration and destruction). Patient: Sir! You mean to say; this entropy is the cause of STRESS? Doctor: Not merely the entropy as such! The life in us has tendency to merge with the cosmic consciousness on the one hand and tendency to get trapped in the property of the matter on the other! Thus we are actually caught between the upward (URDHVAGAMI) force that tends to unify us with our true self; and the downward (ADHOGAMI) force that LOCKS us in the influence of matter ( petty and subjective perspective, thinking, feeling and instincts). Patient: Sir! Does this tussle between the upward and downward forces constitutes stress? Doctor: Yes! Precisely! However some people do not believe that our individual life is an extension of the unifying cosmic consciousness! They believe that life has emerged from non-life! Patient: Why don't they believe? Doctor: They don't seem to see or experience; the glimpses of the source of everything and every being i.e. true SELF i.e. the immortal cosmic consciousness! Patient: Sir, this is fine! But I am still not understanding the role of NAMASMARAN! Please explain further Doctor: NAMASMARAN is a process of remembering NAMA i.e. the immortal cosmic consciousness i.e. God, Brahma or true SELF! This remembrance enhances the upward force and nullifies the downward force (born out of influence of matter) slowly but steadily! Patient: It means; the animals would have stress, but won't be able to practice NAMASMARAN and enhance upward (URDHVAGAMI) forces and hence won't be able to manage stress! Is it true? Doctor: You are absolutely right! But it is documented that; in the company of those, who have transcended the matter; even the animals get benefited! Patient: How does this aid in Total Stress Management? Doctor: As the upward (URDHVAGAMI) force supersedes the pettiness born out of the influence of matter, our perspective, thinking, feelings and instincts blossom! Our policies, plans, programs and their implementation; become more and more unprejudiced, objective, accurate and globally benevolent! Such blossoming in individual and universe; is DHARMA! Patient: Sir! This is wonderful! Now i am beginning to understand; how NAMASMARAN is crucial to Total Stress Management! Doctor: I will explain it further as we begin to study the stress and its management in greater details and depth!

TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT AND NAMASMARAN 8: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR Patient: Can a child practice NAMASMARAN? Doctor: Life is like a river. Stress is like a disturbed river or a whirlpool! NAMASMARAN is a process of reestablishing the river to its calm flow! Hence; it is better to start as early in life as possible. Patient: But won't they get bored? Doctor: They would! Therefore NAMASMARAN has to be started in small "dose"!

Patient: Would this act as preventive measure!? Doctor: Yes! NAMASMARAN is like alum! It enhances the settling of muddy particles to bottom! Patient: I see! Doctor: NAMASMARAN is like systematizing the electrical wiring so that bulbs of our life; emanate light according to our potentials; in literary as well as actual sense(voltage)! It is like a proper functioning of signals! It makes the traffic smooth! Patient: Can we compare stress with TRAFFIC JAM? Doctor: This is not an exact analogy but helps in understanding STRESS, clearly, which in itself; significantly "rectifies the signals" and reduces STRESS! Comparison of STRESS with TRAFFIC JAM! 1. The STRESSORS are like excess number of VEHICLES coming from all directions. 2. The individual under stress is like a square where the signals or the traffic police are not working. 3. The signs and symptoms of stress are like the excess crowding, anxiety due to inability to reach destinations, quarrels amongst the drivers, excessive blowing of horns, chemical pollution etc. 4. The pathology is inability of the vehicles to move and reach their destinations. 5. The Relaxation Techniques prevalent today are like arbitrary and isolated efforts to calm down the drivers and prohibit the blowing of horns. 6. The relaxation techniques therefore can bring about temporary peace (temporary symptomatic relief) but cannot help the vehicles to reach their destinations (cannot effectively remove the pathological changes and handle the stressors effectively). 7. NAMASMARAN (and consequent Total Stress Management); is like re-establishing the functioning of the signals and re-instituting the traffic police (perception) so that the crowding, jam (homeostatic disturbances or affect), blowing of horns, quarrels (symptoms and signs ) and the reaching of the destinations ( handling the stressors and rectify the pathological changes ), all are made possible.

TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT AND NAMASMARAN 7: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR Patient: Can the causes of stress be completely eradicated? Doctor: Beginning NAMASMARAN (Total Stress Management) is like coming on right track to progress appropriately! But stress CAN BE MANAGED; NOT eradicated! Patient: Are the STRESSORS always dangerous? Doctor: No. The environment neither remains unchanged nor does it change within a given restricted range. So the living beings are equipped to overcome (and even get benefited from) STRESSORS! This is why; physical exercise, emotional excitement, intellectual work etc. are often beneficial when moderate. Sometimes this beneficial stress is referred to as eustress. EU is used as a prefix, meaning good or well. Patient: When do the STRESSORS become dangerous? Doctor: When the stressors increase in number, frequency, duration, intensity or complexity, the internal environment undergoes greater change (distress) with greater variations and with greater speed! This results in adverse effects on body cells, with or without clinical signs and symptoms! Patient: Can we call the ill effects of STRESS; PRRABDHA? Doctor: When we seem to understand (although superficially) the causes; we term it pathophysiology of stress! When we fail to understand the root causes; we term it PRARABDHA! Patient: What does NAMASMARAN do? Doctor: NAMASMARAN empowers us to see, feel and act appropriately! It wakes us up to NEW AWAKENING! Patient: I think I will begin the practice of NAMASMARAN; till I learn further about the process of blossoming with NAMASMARAN! Doctor: Yes! We have to learn a lot! Stress is like a tornado! But Gurukrupa enriches us with NAMASMARAN and empowers us to ride over it!

TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT AND NAMASMARAN 6: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR Patient: You were to explain with examples; how NAMASMARAN is crucial to Total Stress Management! Doctor: Yes! We have to appreciate the vast nature and causes of stress so that we can understand the crucial role of NAMASMARAN in Total Stress Management! Patient: Yes doctor! Please explain! Doctor: Stress is like a horse! But it would never leave us at any cost! So there is no lasting escape from it. There are only few options. A] Getting dragged after it, B] Getting bitten or beaten by it, C] Carrying it on our head, D] Beating or killing the horse (Barbaric, cowardly, disgusting and obnoxious. Isnt it? Since stress is inseparable from life, killing horse is equivalent to suicide!)

E] Learning to ride the horse with delight, which is what Total Stress Management (TSM), is and the core of it is NAMASMARAN! Patient: Any other example? Doctor: Stress is also like river! But; we have no choice as we are already born in it! There are only two options. Either to get drowned, or to learn to swim to the bank. TSM enables us to reach the bank of the river safely. Patient: How would you define stress scientifically? Doctor: Stress means a variable degree; of acute or chronic changes; in the internal environment of the body. The normal stress such as moderate exercise is useful. But when we talk of stress we actually mean HARMFUL STRESS OR DISTRESS, which causes adverse effects on almost every cell of the body; making life miserable in several ways. Patient: What is this INTERNAL ENVIRONMENT of the body? Doctor: The body cells contain fluid within them and they themselves are present in a fluid medium. This fluid which they contain and the fluid by which they are surrounded, together form the INTERNAL ENVIRONMENT OF THE BODY. Patient: What is the importance of this INTERNAL ENVIRONMENT? Doctor: The importance of the internal environment is that, various physical and chemical characteristics of the internal environment have to be maintained within a certain range if the body cells and hence the organism, have to function in the normal i.e. healthy way. If the characteristics undergo drastic variations then STRESS develops. This stress causes damaging effects on our life. This should explain to you the importance of the internal environment as well as the importance of any factor/s, which may bring about changes in it. Patient: What are the characteristics of this INTERNAL ENVIRONMENT? Doctor: The internal environment i.e. the fluid inside the cells and surrounding the cells, has certain concentration of hydrogen, sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, magnesium etc. It has certain osmolality, temperature, viscosity etc. We are all aware of one such physical characteristic viz. blood pressure. The text books of physiology, describe in details, but it is not necessary to list them here and burden our memory. Patient: What are the causes of stress? Doctor: The causes of stress are called STRESSORS. The stressors are nothing else but exaggerated stimuli, which cause change in our internal environment beyond the normal range resulting in stress. We will see with examples; how NAMASMARAN, which is the core of Total Stress Management; is crucial in overcoming these!

TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT AND NAMASMARAN 5: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR Patient: Doctor! I have begun to understand the concept of Total Stress Management or Holistic Renaissance! But how did you arrive at the conclusion that NAMASMARAN is crucial to it? Doctor: This conviction is the culmination of an expedition stretching over thirty years (and possibly extending far beyond!). Patient: What kind of expedition? Doctor: This is an expedition full of intellectual, emotional, instinctual, physical, economic, social and a variety of other adventures! Patient: What was the purpose? Doctor: Purpose was to search that something, which can simultaneously and progressively fulfill the humane intellect, emotions, passions and physical needs of an individual as well as the society. Patient: You must have gone through a variety of experiences and revelations! Doctor: Yes! It is through intense reading, frank discussions, honest arguments and thereby; understanding and verification; of the physiology, psychology, sociology, economics, politics, religion and other aspects of stress; that I realized that "that something" is NAMASMARAN! Patient: Sounds interesting. But how does NAMASMARAN work? Doctor: NAMASMARAN is a process of blossoming into unifying enlightenment from the normal but petty (hence stressful) physiological dualities, which are further intensified and multiplied by scientific and technological advancement. Patient: We have to to see how it works in different causes of stress; with examples. Doctor: If you are genuinely interested, then we will definitely do that; and see; how NAMASMARAN is crucial to unprejudiced and accurate understanding of the precise meaning, erroneous misconceptions, myriads of causes, exact mechanisms and ubiquitous effects of stress; and TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT i.e. TOTAL WELL BEING!

Posted by on Friday, 16th August 2013

TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT AND NAMASMARAN 4: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR Doctor: Total Stress Management is simultaneous process of individual and global blossoming. The perspective of universal unity and harmony, emerges from the evolution of petty positive and petty negative instincts and emotions and thoughts. Patient: What does it imply? Doctor: We begin to grow from pettiness and its vicious effects on our life.

Patient: You mean to say the ill effects of stress? Doctor: Yes! In short, the ill effects of stress result from petty perspective, thoughts, feelings and passions and resultant behavior! Patient: But NAMASMARAN is apparently a process of individual emancipation. Doctor: NAMASMARAN frees us from pettiness and in turn reveals solutions to the problems in individual and universal life! Hence universalization of NAMASMARAN leads to multiplication of correct solutions, which in turn evolve a social environment conducive to our own focus on NAMASMARAN and self realization! Patient: This appears reasonable; but very difficult! Doctor: True! It does appear difficult! But actual practice and propagation of NAMASMARAN; reap the success of NAMASMARAN in not merely personal; but universal benevolence!

TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT AND NAMASMARAN 3: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR Patient: Sir! Will you explain the difference between the stress management and stress relaxation in market; and Total Stress Management? Doctor: Usually it is presumed that stress means undue worry, anxiety, restlessness, tension i.e. some kind of painful helplessness to cope with the challenges of life! Patient: But is it not true? Doctor: It is a small and visible part of stress! Stress management and stress relaxation in vogue; do not reach the roots and universal spread of stress! Patient: What do you mean? Doctor: Basically; they fail to comprehend the role of policies, plans, programs and their implementation; and laws, rules, traditions, conventions and so on; in causing and aggravating stress! Hence; they prescribe some techniques restricted to individual gratification, solace, relaxation and/or entertainment. Patient: Are they useless? Doctor: No! They are inadequate! They attempt to manage or relax stress at individual level; ignoring the role of perspectives, policies, plans, programs and their implementation; for appropriate fulfillment of instincts, feelings, intelligence and creativity; culminating ultimately; in SELF realization! Patient: Can you explain further? Doctor: Yes! Tomorrow!

TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT AND NAMASMARAN 2: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR Patient: Sir! Yesterday you said, "Just as the new born; ought to breathe; even if; it is not convinced about the vital role of oxygen; in the same way; we also ought to begin the practice of NAMASMARAN; even if we don't understand its relevance!" How were you convinced so much about NAMASMARAN? Doctor: While experiencing and studying the stress in personal and social life; I realized that stress occupies all the areas of life and NAMASMARAN; which is the core of Total Stress Management; can consume stress! Patient: What is Total Stress Management? Doctor: Total Stress Management includes; perspectives, policies, plans, programs and their implementation; for appropriate fulfillment of our instincts, feelings, intelligence and creativity; culminating ultimately; in SELF realization! Patient: This appears to be quite different from the "stress management and stress relaxation" in market! Doctor: Yes! We will discuss the difference between the stress management and stress relaxation in market; and Total Stress Management; tomorrow!

TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT AND NAMASMARAN 1: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR Patient: Sir! It is true that NAMASMARAN (JAP, JAAP, SUMIRAN, SIMARAN i.e. remembering God or true self ) is preached by most saints and prophets. But how is to related to; day to day stresses and strains? Doctor: Day to day stresses and strains; are only apparent symptoms! In fact; the stress is present in unconscious, subconscious as well s conscious states. It is present even in coma. It is present during sleep and dreams. It is present during embryonic life and it is present in all living forms! Patient: But we thought that stress is due to severe competition, difficult targets, frightening insecurity and stringent dead lines! Doctor: True! These also cause stress; and hence are few of the many stressors! Patient: But how the apparently idle practice of NAMASMARAN can bring about Total Stress Management?

Doctor: I will explain it in the course of time. But for the moment; remember that just as the new born; ought to breathe; even if; it is not convinced about the vital role of oxygen; in the same way; we also ought to begin the practice of NAMASMARAN; even if we don't understand its relevance!
