00 Moral Education Teachers should teach morals in school, but there is a fine line as to how they should teach. In my opinion, in early education, it is okay to teach the students some definite morals; however, in higher education, teachers should allow for the student to develop their own set of morals. Imagine a classroom in high school. The teacher is teaching a lesson like he/she normally does. All of a sudden, a woman walks into the room and tells the teacher that her daughter was being bullied and a student from his/her class helped her daughter. The mother wants to thank the student, but doesnt know who it is. The teacher then asks his/her students if they know anything about this and no one answers. The teacher apologizes to the mother and she leaves. All of the students are talking about what had just happened except for one student. That student is working on their English assignment; however, the student despises English. The teacher then realized that that student was the hero to the little kid, but didnt want any recognition because that student did it to help and not to get praised. Teachers should allow students to develop their own sense of morality and they should guide and help them to make good decisions. First of all, as a teacher, I will study what type of friends each of my students hang out with to determine what set of moralities they might have. Secondly, I will, in my classroom, give students scenarios in class and have them discuss what they would do and why. Lastly, I will help guide them to making the right choice in life by teaching them morality and how to achieve the Universal Ethical Principle Orientation. As a teacher, I will first study my students behaviors and the group of friends they spend their free time with. This will help to better understand where my students are coming from and how they perceive right and wrong. If I notice that a student is struggling at home I will encourage them and tell them that life gets better so that their whole outlook o n life doesnt change and their sense of morality changes with it. Also, I will see what type of friends they have and if they arent the best, then, in class I will match up students in groups and have them do group projects to get to know one another so that the bad kids dont influence a students moralities. Secondly, I will, in the classroom, have a scenario of choosing the right or wrong way as a warm-up. For example, one scenario would be: The teacher has left the room and most of the students are in the computer lad. No one is looking and Tommy notices that the grade book is open and sitting out in the open. Tommy notices that he has a bad grade and knows that he could change his grade and no one would even notice. What should Tommy do? What would you do in Tommys shoes? Scenarios like that every day, every morning, would help students see how their morals are and see what other students morals are and based on the discussion in class, it would help improve their moral decisions. Lastly, I will help guide and support students towards good morality. I will not teach them a definite moral, but I will allow for students to choose their own morality. Since I am going to teach a higher level of education, it wont be much of a problem as it would be teaching a lower level of education. Anyways, I will not reward students for good morals, nor will I praise them because they should learn that doing the right thing means getting nothing in return and that you should do it because it is the right thing to do not because you get a reward. As a teacher I will face many difficult decisions along the way; however, when it comes to teaching morality, it all depends on the student. I will do my best to help guide my students to achieving the best moral decision. I hope that as a teacher, I am successful at teaching my students that right and wrong should be their choice, but they should always choose the right way because its the honest way to go.
