Learning and Training are the two crucial and ever-helping aspects in all phase of life. Training is the ultimate weapon for managing performance. Army cannot send soldiers to fight without any prior training. Same way in MGT also, for survival purpose, you must have practical insight balance with theoretical background. So, SUMMER VISIT PROGRAM is included as a part of MBA, curriculum in which student has to undergo one and half month summer training in any co. of his/her choice where practical insight can be gained to shape theoretical knowledge. For this purpose, I have selected EXCEL CROP CARE LIMITED, BHAVNAGAR. The company is operating on a large scale in the chemical industry and very much known for its people centric nature and sense of social responsibility.

Such training promotes a student to boost his potentials and the inner qualities, and there by student came to know about their reality that how the theoretical knowledge work in actual sense in any unit. This has indeed proved to be very useful to me.

HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT

In 1932, C.C. Shroff, a young and brilliant science graduate, turned down a scholarship to England. He was already bound f or another country: a country as yet unborn, one which existed only in the hearts and mind of the men at the helm of India s freedom movement. Independence is not a concept confined to the realms of politics. Shroff knew, that if India was to be at all self-reliant, she would have to manufacture her own basic products and chemicals with her own know-how. And to that end he worked with all his strength, faith and genius, he chose chemistry as his vehicle for this. First he charted his own course of education, apprenticing himself to some of the more advance chemical enterprises of the time. His research laboratory was the kitchen at home, where he learnt to manufacture small useful things like margarine and face cream. Slowly he was gaining the knowledge and confidence to start off on his own. In 1941, while our leaders were tr ying to get the British out of India, C.C. Shroff was clearing out a buffalo shed in Jogeshwari, Bombay. When he nailed up a sign that said, Excel Crop Care, he was making his declaration of independenceindependence from foreign technology and know how. From the beginning, Excel Crop Care manufactured hazardous chemicals that had previously been imported. Chemicals that very few companies, even abroad, knew how to manufacture. C.C. Shroff worked out his own technologies, which were cheaper, simpler and as efficient as any, world-wide. A few months after he had set

up shop, C.C. Shroff received a frantic call from Stanvac, a large petroleum refiner y. An essential chemical could not be imported because of the was. Could he do something? C.C. Shroff thought for a while, then said he could. He set to work at once; researching, experimenting, streamlining processes, working day and night. Just four days later, he dispatched the order. It was as good as the imported chemical and Stanvac was so pleased, it offered to pay a price much higher than normal. C.C. Shroff refused. His costs did not justify the higher price, and he would not take a paisa more than what he felt was due. This is a pattern that has repeated itself through Excel s history: quick response to a customer s needs, with excellent products at a fair price. To overcharge customers or to give them shoddy goods even in times of shortage would be to compromise the integrity of the company.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF PRODUCTION AND OPERATION MANAGEMETN During the year under review, the net sales decreased from ` 702.28 crores in the previous year to ` 661.61 crores. Domestic sales turnover dropped from ` 470.04 crores in the previous year to ` 405.80 crores whereas the export turnover increased from ` 232.24 crores to ` 255.81 crores. The Companys profit before tax in the year under review decreased to ` 21.84 crores from ` 61.79 crores in the previous year. As reported in the previous Directors Report, in compliance with ad-interim Order passed by the Honble Supreme Court on 13th May, 2011, the Company immediately suspended production and sale of Endosulfan. Subsequently, pursuant to Orders passed by the Honble Supreme Court, the Company exported its stock of Endosulfan Technical and over one-third of Endosulfan Formulations stock during the year. The remaining stocks of Endosulfan Formulation are being exported as and when export ordersare secured.

At the last hearing in the court matter related to Endosulfan, the Honble Supreme Court has asked the Central Government for its suggestion as to how the stocks of Endosulfan Formulation and its raw materials should be disposed of/phased out.

The Company carries provision aggregating to ` 16.30 crores (including ` 6.10 crores made during the year 2011-12 and shown as Exceptional Item) in respect of stocks relating to Endosulfan. In the opinion of the Company, the amount of such provision is sufficient and reasonable.

Endosulfan has been the single largest product of the Company. Its absence in the Companys product portfolio for the major part of the year (barring exports as referred to above) severely impacted the Companys sales and profits. Though the shortfall in the sales was made up to an extent by increased sale of other manufactured and traded products, there has been significant erosion in the margins for the year.

The partial drought in Maharashtra impacted the demand for weedicides, affecting your Companys performance in that particular segment in the second quarter of 2011-12. Remuneration mentioned above includes salary, commission, allowances, value of perquisites, Companys contribution to Provident Fund and Superannuation Fund but does not include contribution/provision towards Gratuity Fund.

The nature of employment is contractual.

The employee is not a relative of any other Directors of the Company.
