New Totally Gel-Free, Riser-Rated Cable Enables Faster, Less Costly Deployment for Inter-Building Applications
Product Description
OPTION1 DT Cable
f your cable isnt dry, things could get sticky. Why not join the Dry Revolution with our new, totally gel-free OPTION1 DT Riser-Rated, ser-Rated, Outdoor/Indoor Loose Tube Fiber Optic Cable? OPTION1 DT Cable innovatively combines the safety features of an indoor, riser-rated cable with the durability critical to outside plant (OSP) use, all in a single, gel-free cable that helps enable faster deployment and reduced installation costs. OFS eld-proven, totally dry loose tube design lies at the heart of each OPTION1 DT Cable. To construct this cable, optical bers are placed within exible 2.5 mm buffer tubes that contain a specially-engineered, superabsorbent yarn that delivers excellent water penetration resistance without the use of messy gels and lling compounds. Next, the color-coded buffer tubes are then stranded around a dielectric central member using the reverse oscillating lay (ROL) stranding technique for easy, mid-span ber access. Additional dry, super-absorbent material is then applied to the cable core to offer added water-blocking protection and faster cable preparation. Finally, dielectric strength elements, a ripcord and a durable outer jacket complete the cable construction.

he completely gel-free OPTION1 DT Cable offers the safety features needed for indoor riser use along with the durability required for OSP applications. Unlike traditional loose tube cables that use gels in direct contact with optical bers, the OPTION1 DT Cable replaces gels with a specially-engineered, super-absorbent yarn that provides outstanding water penetration resistance. By eliminating nasty gels and lling compounds, this cable helps enable substantial savings on installation time and labor costs. In fact, when compared with similar gel-lled outdoor/indoor cables, the OPTION1 DT Cable can help cut cable end preparation time by up to 80%, helping to signicantly reduce labor costs for splicing and terminations 1. In eld trials, the gel-free OPTION1 DT Cable reduced the time required for cable end preparation for splicing and terminations by up to 80% as compared with OFS and competitor gel-lled loose tube cables. osp-161-0111
The totally gel-free cable design also helps save on labor costs by offering faster splicing with higher rst pass yields due to a cleaner work environment. By removing gels and lling compounds, the OPTION1 DT Cable allows virtually effortless splice preparation, while keeping your tools, workspace, closures and cabinets cleaner and safer. Dry cables are also signicantly lighter in weight, making them easier to handle and less of a load on your crew and plant infrastructure. The OPTION1 DT Cable also enables additional cost savings by helping to minimize or eliminate the need for special cleaning solvents and wipes, along with eliminating the added expense of cleaning splicer and cleaver equipment. These advantages make this cable an environmentally-friendly solution that also helps save on deployment time and expense. By eliminating multiple cables and splice points, the OPTION1 DT Cable allows streamlined cable installation and maintenance, helping to save even more time and money. In addition, this cost-effective cable also helps deliver enhanced system performance by avoiding the additional attenuation loss created by multiple splice points. In summary, the OPTION1 DT Cable is a prime cabling solution for inter-building applications including private networks, Local Area Networks (LANs), and campus environments, as well as deployments that involve outside plant to building transitions.
