CHAPTER FIVE

KARMA-YOGA IN
DEVOTION
Arjuna asked,
O Krsna, You ask me first to renounce.
‘Work in deep devotion’, then announce.
Then tell, to work in full knowledge!
Now, what’s best, with an edge.
\\1\\

Sri Krsna said,

Arjuna, renunciation in full knowledge,
And work in devotion, both have an edge.
Both are good for perfection and liberation,
But, working in devotion is a better option.
\\2\\

5/1
5/2 Gita My Mother Ch.5

Never abhors nor desires the fruits,

And is free from dualities of routes,
Detached thus from actions, reactions,
Freed he will be from material factions.
He is sanyasi of a renounced order,
And also true devotee, so very dear.
\\3\\

Sankyayoga and karmayoga both lead to Me.

Learned know this and a true devotee.
Both routes reach the roots to realization,
Fools, but fail to visualize the situation.
\\4\5\\

Mere costume and renunciation!

Down fall is sure and certain.
Mere speculation without devotion!
Progress stalls, sets in demotion.
Path of karmayoga is straight and easy
But of jnanayoga is difficult and greasy.
\\6\\

Pure soul and mind in devotion,

Loves and is loved by every one.
Such a person, Fit for liberation,
Never entangles by action or reaction.
\\7\\

All the senses of a pure devotee

Are busy in the services of Lord only.
Ch.5 Karma-Yoga In Devotion 5/3

He is free and unattached truly,

Aloof and unaffected is materially.
\\8\\

Senses though are all passionate,

Divine men are but compassionate.
Temporary is this world illusory,
Permanent is Brahma, knows visionary.
\\9\\

As a lotus leaf is untouched by water,

So is pure yogi unaffected by matter.
Surrenders all his actions unto Me,
From sinful reactions I set him free.
\\10\\

Yogi always works for Me only,

Without ego, fearlessly and incessantly!
Thus purified in mind, body and senses,
He then to My form accomplishes.
\\11\\

A devout soul attains peace and harmony

Because of his true love n faith in me
A greedy, always after fruits, is selfish,
Never does bhakti or devotion relish.
\\12\\

When the host of nine gated fort realizes nature,

Renounces he work and leads happy future.
5/4 Gita My Mother Ch.5

Renounces he work virtually,

But is ever very busy actually.
This host creates not work or fruits,
Though aloof he forms its roots.
\\13\\

Though creator and controller,

Nothing here I do or share.
My three modes only drive,
All the worlds, to actually strive.
\\14\\

I only control all entities,

Yet assume not any worldly activities.
Bewildered by body and senses behavior,
Embodied beings suffer misery and desire.
\\15\\

When intellect and faith, in Me, are fixed,

Then one is totally realized and cleansed.
When nescience is negated by knowledge,
Then one bathes intellect in cosmic rays.
\\16\17\\

Cow, elephant, dog, pig, or humans,

They all are only God’s manifestations,
One who views with oneness them all,
Is a realized yogi, who does never fall.
\\18\\
Ch.5 Karma-Yoga In Devotion 5/5

Those in oneness and equality dwell,

Are liberated, and in goodness they sail.
Birth and death never they fear,
Them I love and are so dear.
\\19\\

Neither they lament loss nor rejoice gain,

Never deluded, conscience they maintain.
Sorrow or happiness, pleasure or pain,
Desire or rage, heat, cold or rain
\\20\\

Ever in trance such men ever enjoy

Infinite bliss of Brahma, the purest joy,
Everlasting happiness in the Supreme,
External subjects never even dream.
\\21\\

Never they partake in material pleasures,

Concentrate only in Me without desires,
Know worldly pleasures are transient,
Making passions more n more eminent.
\\22\\

One who overcomes urge of desire,

Also does away with fear and anger,
Is always in trance remembering Me,
In peace and happiness, is ever free.
\\23\\
5/6 Gita My Mother Ch.5

Liberated yogi enjoys bliss within self,

Aloof from all, looks inward for help.
\\24\\

He is kind to all living entities,

And works for them with divine ties.
Free from all doubts and dualities,
He, with Brahma, his self identifies.
\\25\\

Free from anger, desire and miseries,

True saint ever in trance, never worries.
Self disciplined and realized yogi is he,
Transcends higher and higher and is free.
\\26\\

Always shuts from worldly objects,

He, to austerities himself subjects.
Perfected yogi thus satisfied fully,
Ever explores ocean of spirit soul only.
\\27\28\\

I am Lord Vishnu, the benefactor

I am the enjoyer, maintainer and creator
Arjuna, work only for Me without any desire,
Arise now and fight as a true warrior.
