DEVOTIONAL SERVICE

Arjuna asked
O lover of Cows, O killer of demons, O dearest,
Tell me now, who dost Thou regard more perfect?
One engaged in Thy personal service with love,
Or Universal formless Impersonal Brahma, above!

Lord Krsna said

Arjuna, both kinds finally come home only,
But one that loves Me truly is freed easily.
Detached from every thing else but Me,
Know him My true and best devotee.

Those who meditate on the unmanifest,

Which is beyond senses and intellect,
With full control of senses and mind,
Also eventually come to me, you find.
Equipoised to all sorts of dualities,
Work they for welfare of humanity. \\3\4\\

Arjuna, Jnanis attached to all pervading,

Face many hurdles before Me attaining.
As boundless I am and immortal,
But egoistic, limited, thou art mortal.

But bhaktas who surrender unto Me totally,

And faithfully worship Me, are freed directly.
\\6\\

It is easy to worship Me as Deity

And realize Me and My true beauty,
And steady yourself in My lotus feet
And swim worldly ocean without retreat.

Must one fix mind, body and soul unto Me

And My devine name, chant constantly,

Without ever failing to meditate on Me,

Such pure devotee attains Me surely.

If you are unable to steady in Me

Overcome by practice the difficulty
Even one can swim the ocean
And achieve real truth n perfection.
\\9\\

If you fail to meditate on Me,

Then observe rules strictly,
Or else, just do work for Me,
Or else give up ownership of activity,
Or else take to the path of creativity,
Still better is yoga and meditation,
Best is to renounce the fruits of action.
Then wilt thou certainly to Me attain.

Never envy or hate no one, O Arjuna,

Be a kind friend to every one,
Never think self as the proprietor,
Be freed from false ego, O warrior.

Them, happiness and distress are equal,

Who take to My service devotional.
Tolerant, simple, happy are they,
By argument and ego never do sway.
\\14\\

Never agitate none, nor agitated be.

Never they fear, never ever angry.
Focus they only in My lotus feet,
Them, as a dearest friend, I treat.
\\15\\

Neither grieves, nor rejoices or desires,

Renounces both auspicious and inauspicious,
Pure devotee, always free of worry and fear,
Shuns fruits of endeavor, to Me is dear.
\\16\17\\

Honor or dishonor, famy or infamy,

Heat or cold, good or bad, friend or enemy,
One that assumes graceful equanimity,
Silent, pure soul, know is ever happy,
Cares not failures, fears not hurdles,
Other than Me, thinks nothing else.
Drinks nectar full of righteousness
Comes home and bliss rejoices.
