Mosholu Montefore Community Centers (MMCCs) mission is to build on individuals
strengths to enhance the lives of all our residents, including those who are vulnerable;
immigrants, victims of discrimination and those with special needs. MMCC is committed

In these pages you will fnd this years programs and services. Tere are many new
oferings so read carefully.
Registration takes place from the moment you receive this brochure until classes and
programs are full. Our main building is open Monday through Friday from 7:00am -
7:00pm and will open Saturday, October 5 from 9:00am - 4:00pm for registration.
We look forward to providing you with new and innovative programs this year.

Child Development Center
Day Care Head Start Universal PreKindergarten
Day Care Program
Our Day Care program serves children between the ages of
12 months and 4 1/2 years. Te programs ofer fully equipped
classrooms and outdoor play areas.
Our teachers are warm and caring. Children are taught through
creative play and literature, and are encouraged to develop their
imagination and social skills. A healthy breakfast, lunch and
snack are provided. Parents provide diapers and wipes.
Tis is a 12 month program.
Hours: 8:00am6:00pm, MondayFriday
Extended hours are available from 7:30am8:00am
and 6:00pm6:30 pm at $6.00 per 1/2 hour.

Head Start
Head Start is a federally funded 6 hour program for 3 and 4
year olds during the school year. Tis gives lowincome families
the opportunity for early education growth, health services,
and parent involvement. In addition, the children are prepared
academically and socially for kindergarten. A healthy breakfast,
lunch and snack are provided.

Universal PreKindergarten
Universal Pre-Kindergarten is a free 6 hour program open
to all for 4 year olds. Our program provides high quality
developmentally appropriate instruction for all children with an
important foundation that promotes the acquisition of skills in
the four learning domainssocial-emotional, physical, creative
expression/aesthetic and cognitive development that includes
language and literacy and mathematical and scientifc thinking.
A healthy breakfast, lunch and snack are provided.

Program
An enriched curriculum of classes and clubs at MMCC
including Ice Skating, Bowling, Computer, Soccer, Art Work-
shop, Nature Crafts, Drama, Music, Basketball, activity groups,
and Homework Help. All of these classes and clubs are included
in the tuition fee. Children receive a nutritious snack each day.
All day trips and activities are available on most school holidays for
an additional fee. Upcoming full day trips: Oct. 14 (Columbus Day),
Nov. 5 (Election Day), Nov. 11(Veterans Day), Dec. 23 - 27 and 30
(Holiday Break), Feb. 18-21 (Winter Recess).
Special needs services may be available for your child based
on certain criteria. A current IEP and intake interview must be
scheduled prior to the student starting the program.

Te Division of Adolescent Medicine at the Childrens
Hospital at Montefore (CHAM) and the Mosholu Montefore
Community Center have developed the Bronx Nutrition
and Fitness Initiative for Teens (BN Fit) to address the issue
of adolescent obesity. Youth in the program are ofered a
comprehensive medical, nutritional, and psychosocial evaluation.
Tey are enrolled in an intensive nutrition and physical activity
program.
Tis is available to overweight youth between the ages 12 to 21.
Te BN Fit Program is held from 4:30pm6:30pm at PS 8, 3010
Briggs Avenue, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Te program allows teens to meet new friends, play a variety
of games and sports, try new foods, go on trips and much more.
Te BN Fit Program includes: monthly medical assessments at
the CHAM, childrens behavior exercise, cooking groups, weekly
nutrition groups, physical activity groups up to 4 times per week,
weekly parent groups, monthly family night, individual therapy
and nutritional counseling.
In addition, BN Fit ofers a summer day camp. Our day
camp is a wonderful opportunity to spend a summer outdoors

College Bound Program | College Access Counseling
Parents, high school students, young adults and adults get
comprehensive help to select colleges, complete applications
and apply for fnancial aid. College students wanting to
transfer are welcome. Adults looking to return to
school can also receive services. We provide: Individual
counseling/joint studentparent counseling, group
information programs and college trips.
College Bound Program | SAT Preparation Classes
Low cost SAT preparation classes are designed for high school
juniors and seniors who would like to prepare for the SATs.

leading to New York State Food Handlers Certifcation. Job

Family Choice Program
Te Family Choice Program educates parents and students on
middle school and high school choices in New York City. Te
Family Choice/Early Awareness Program provides information
about smaller middle and theme-based high schools and charter
schools in the fve boroughs. Tis program also supports families
as they navigate special education in New York City.

Immigration Family Initiatives
Te Child Development Center of MMCC ofers assistance to
parents of ELL (English as a Second Language) students grades
6-8 enrolled in NYC public schools. Our goal is to promote
parental involvement and student academic success by bridging
the gap between the school and parents through supportive
services including: referrals for healthcare, legal services, nutrition,
adult ESL and Civics classes at no cost. Enrollment begins now
through October.

ISY | In School Youth
Tis free year-round program for juniors and seniors in high
school includes: basic math and literacy skills and general
education tutoring, S.A.T. and Regents prep and more. Our goal
is to empower students academically and provide opportunities
to increase their college readiness and work force exposure. We
also provide college tours, and guaranteed summer employment.
Enrollment begins now through September.

Specialized High School Test Prep
Tere will be a specialized high school test prep class that will take
place at the Mosholu Montefore Community Center. Orientation
will be on Wednesday, September 10 at 4:00pm.

Young Adult Internship Program, 1724 years
YAIP ofers 14 weeks of paid trainings and internships.
Eligibility: Participants must not be currently enrolled
in school or hold a college degree. You must be unemployed and pass
a reading test. Required documents: social security card, birth
certifcate, government issued ID and proof of residency. Ask about

referral services and monthly legal clinic.
Tere are two locations.
Shuttle van service to Main Building is
available on a regularly scheduled basis.

Te Moses Project is a new and exciting
joint program being ofered by MMCC
and Bronx House. A program for boys
and girls who may have one Jewish parent
and one parent who comes from multi-
social or ethnic families (just like Moses),
or two Jewish parents but have no Jewish
identifcation or education.
Te Moses Project is ofered as a non-
religious program teaching Jewish history,
culture, stories, traditions, music, dance,
holiday celebrations to children in a fun,
interesting, and creative way. In addition,
the program will provide trips to places
of Jewish interest (transportation will
provided). Family participation is welcome.
Te program will meet on alternate
Sundays for boys and girls:
Ages 6 to 8: 9:00am - 11:00am
Ages 9 to 12: 11:00am - 1:00pm
Children who prefer the MMCCs Van

Program
Mosholu Day Camp is a fantastic traditional day camp where kids
have a chance to explore new activities while making new friends
in a safe and fun environment. Our campers have an opportunity
to grow in many ways and enjoy a summer flled with memories
that last a lifetime.
Camp divisions: Frosh (born in 2009), Norwood (born in 2007
and 2008), Young Blazers: (born in 2005 and 2006), Blazers and
Trail Blazers (born 2003 and 2004), Sunshine and
Elan for Special Needs.
Activities
Tere is no end to the activities that Mosholu campers enjoy.
We ofer instructional swim, free swim, boating, fshing, art,
drama, dance, ftness, gaga, Native American culture,
engineering, orienteering, challenge and adventure, music,
pottery, basketball, tennis, soccer, football, nature, science,
giant games, softball, boom ball, foor hockey, team handball,
and hiking!
Next summers camp program will feature shorter time on the
bus to and from camp, a newly designed trip program,
a new challenge course and more!
