The REB500sys station protection system continues in writing new chapters in the history of protection technology. Well introduced and globally accepted by demanding customers, the next step was implemented into the REB500sys. The decentralized busbar protection system with integrated breaker failure and line protection has been extended with transformer protection for 2- and 3-winding transformers as well as auto transformers. Due to a high degree of functional integration, the protection concept is getting simpler and, at the same time it provides an increase in security while life-cycle cost are decreasing. The powerful station protection system REB500sys contains the well-proven ABB software algorithms that have already been successfully used worldwide for many years. REB500sys contains the existing functions of the busbar and breaker-failure protection system REB500 and integrates the well-known line and transformer protection functions from REL316*4 and RET316*4.
The REB500sys applications
Depending on the voltage level and protection philosophy, the following protection concepts are frequently encountered. The proven REB500sys concept covers these situations:
Main 1 and main 2 protection devices per feeder and one busbar protection The REB500sys station protection enables this protection concept to be simplified, thanks to a higher degree of functional integration. By dispensing one of the two main protection devices, the same level of substation protection is maintained whilst cost and space of an extra device are saved and the costs over the complete life cycle are reduced.
One main protection and a back-up protection device per feeder, no busbar protection REB500sys will enable the availability of your energy supply to be increased as a result of employing busbar and breaker-failure protection in substations where this was not possible up to now for commercial reasons.
In retrofit projects The protection scheme is enhanced and comprehensive monitoring added
The protection system is based on the REB500 architecture with decentralized bay units. These are connected to a central unit via fiber-optic cables. The high electromagnetic compatibility permits the bay units to be installed close to the switchgear. The bay units are connected to the current and voltage transducers and the switchgear. Remote access to the station protection for station monitoring, parameterization and fast data retrieval is supported via the central unit as single point of access. The feeder protection functions are executed in each bay unit, independently of the central unit.
