As if there wasn't already enough government intervention in the everyday decisions made by a "free" people, there is a new regulatory fad underway an Orwellian attempt to get you to eat healthy food whether you like it or not.

Concept: When America's founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence they assured us our basic liberties that we have grown to expect. Does the current crisis of Americans health demonstrate a need for a mandated reform of our lifestyle? Does a crisis/epidemic exist? What would they say about the current attempt to strip the American people of the fundamental freedom to control what we eat and drink? Where exactly should the line be drawn between individual choice and government responsibility? How might this change should the American government elect to have universal Healthcare? Is Public Health really everyones business? Directions: Your job is to choose a topic under the umbrella of governments intervention with Public Health Policy and answer the following questions under the presentation outline. Non-honors may chose your presentation format and email me your PPT or 3rd Party/Shared presentation before due date. Groups: Place in order your top three. -California's trans fat restriction -Body Mass Index Screenings in schools -New York States tax on soda products. -Restricting soda/candy in public schools -Obese children removed from home 1. -Texting/Driving Laws -Tanning Bed Laws -Smoking Laws -Food Marketing Restrictions -Mandatory Vaccinations 2. 3. -Twinkie Taxes and fat taxes -Sin/Excise taxes on tobacco and alcohol - Overweight state employees = > insurance -Outlawed Happy Meal Toys -FDA Mandated tobacco warnings/labels

Statistics/Research on need or purpose for current legislation D. What Does the Research/Researchers Say Regarding the Debate 1. Cite at least 2 sources per person in your group for each side.
