Teaching/learning activities Introduction Give half of the class the first page of William Nicollds enlistment form (which doesnt include his race), with questions about his background (including a question about race) attached. Give the other half of the class the third page of Williams enlistment form (which does include his race), with questions about his background attached (including a question about race). Think-Pair-Share Imagine you were an Aboriginal between 1914-18, would you enlist to fight in the war? Why?

Student Activity The Story of Douglas Grant webquest Students are to download the webquest OneNote document off virtual classroom (under WWI ). Quickly go through the instructions as a class, to clarify (to be displayed via projector). Instructions: You are to visit the websites listed below, and read about the experiences of WWI Aboriginal ANZAC, Douglas Grant. You are then to create five questions (written on a separate piece of paper ie. Back the enlistment sheet) for your partner answer, based on your reading. Two of these questions need to be low order questions - what, where, who

questions which have short answers. Three of these questions must be high order questions - how or why type questions which make you think about the answer and voice your opinions. You need to then answer your partner's questions in this document, and e-mail me (jfittall@schoolx.wa.edu.au) your answers as I will be checking and marking them. Get students to read in page 350 of Connect with History 9. (THINK) Students then to share their response with their partner, then select a random pair to share their answer with the class. Conclusion Remind Students a, b & c that their assignments need to be handed in! Get students to pack up. Let students go when the bell goes, and remind them to push their chairs in. Evaluation :
