Overview
Program Title: Grade/age level: Major Goal: Joe Bloke Pays: Criminal Action at the High Court Ages: 13/14 (Form 3) Students learn essentials of police and judicial process when an indictable offence is committed and ends up at the High Court in Barbados.

Amount of Time to Learn Content: System Requirements:

75 minutes

Microsoft Windows XP SP2, 512M RAM, 56k dial-up, Flash player 10.0, audio card, and speaker.

Program Description
Characteristics of Target Learners: The target learners are Form 3 secondary students. Program content may be useful for Form 4 Social Studies students at the Caribbean Examinations Secondary Examination (CSEC) level. Other persons may find the content informative as well. Familiarity with judicial function and structure are helpful. Reading level is at minimum Form 2 level for secondary school students. Students are comfortable in using computers for browsing and using hyperlinked content. Instructional objectives: 1. The students will be able to arrange the events of criminal action in correct sequence with 80% accuracy. 2. The students will briefly describe the events of criminal action. 3. The students will describe the roles of: Judge, Director of Public Prosecutions/Crown Counsels, Magistrate, defense lawyer, and, jury in a serious criminal case. 4. The students will identify examples of aggravating and mitigating factors in a criminal case. 5. The students will identify examples of punishments applied at the high court for criminal matters.
