Each educational system is a mirror that reflects the culture of the society

By Scarleth Bula Paez Educational systems around the world share something in common which is the ultimate goal: To train competent, ethical and high-qualified professionals in all fields of knowledge in order to serve and truly impact on the community in a very positive way. However, its important to recognize that each educational system in the world represents or reflects the identity, beliefs, historical and cultural background from each society. Many people judge a country just because of the image that is shown by the media, but the truth is that we can doubtlessly know the real face of this one by taking a look at its educational system. First of all, we all know the people that are behind the curtain of the education: politicians. Even though, there are not explicitly involved in it, they have practically the control of everything related to the education of a country. Many corrupt politicians believe that education is nothing else than a business a great way to get money easily. So, what they basically do is to embezzle the money which is supposed to be invested in the creation of new schools, amelioration of the physical structure of campuses, institutes, schoolhouses, etc. and in the purchase of chairs, computers, blackboards and many other things that are important in the teaching and learning process of the students. Consequently, we see the huge and negative repercussion of these acts of crime that always remain unpunished, affecting the poor population that obviously are the ones who need more support from the government. Furthermore, Education isnt affordable in some countries due to the privatization of schools, Universities, institutes, etc. Therefore, the people who belong to high economic status are the only ones able to pay a high and ridiculous amount of money to get access to it. In other words: Its noticeable the inequality of opportunity to study and become a professional. In some cases, we can see the tremendous differences between public and private schools, like for example: the quality of education is much better in private schools than in public ones; Although, there are a few exceptions in some countries where they consider that the equality of public education must be higher since most of the population dont have money to afford private education. Moreover, the population receives a specific type of education according to the place where they live. Most of the times schools make emphasis on the customs, traditions, beliefs (religion), their ancestors and what they did for their land, their history and other aspects that are taught to the students so they can create and have their own identity which represents them and of course varies depending on the factors mentioned before. For example: A person who was born in USA but he/ she is taken to another country like Germany will adopt the customs, beliefs etc. from the German Culture.

Notwithstanding, the society calls itself a democrat one in which they can make rules, express their ideas, show their real identity and take decisions concerning to its welfare, this is not real. The government is the one who choses what can be taught or not. A perfect example of this, It can be case of The United Stated with its the first amendment which prohibits the teaching of religion in public schools. So, here we can notice that people are being deprived of learning about the different religious around the world and choose the one that best matches with their ideals. To conclude, it must be said that each educational system actually reflects the two sides of the coin, which means that it shows us the crude and the positive aspects that we find in our society.
