Siemens Networks equipment IP address plan for mobile subnets Requirements for supporting hardware (Switches, routers) Required capacity towards HLR site via SIGTRAN and SS7/TDM with given radio network, attached user and PDP context capacity Gb/Fr, ATM VPI/VCI, VLAN and IP address planning for the required hardware Estimated amount of charging data based on average user network usage profile

Prerequisites

Experience in IP network planning or in particular Nokia Siemens Networks GPRS network planning. Pre-requisite courses GPRS System (TM7502) / UMTS Fundamentals (TM5110) ATCA HW Platform (PF4111) Flexi ISN operation and maintenance (CN3342) SGSN operation and maintenance (CN3122) IP Backbone Planning (CN1055) Site Connectivity workshop (CN6080, optional) Introduction and overview of Packet Core Networks This Module gives an overview of Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) traditional GPRS/PCN implementation with a view into how the networks will change with current and upcoming technologies. A "big picture" definition of Next Generation Networks and the role of the Packet Core for IMS/service access are given, to help planners to estimate the impact of future changes to the GPRS network. In the exercise we start looking at "real life" topologies/network pictures and discuss, why networks look as they do. One example network is introduced and dimensioning / planning for this network is done in the exercises throughout the training. Network planning overview This module is designed to go through basic network planning concepts, techniques and recommendations that are useful for network planners working in mobile packet core networks During this exercise the student will perform a high level network design for a simple example network with parameters given by the instructor. Flexi NS - SGSN DX Platform and Dimensioning This module introduces the implementation of NSN SGSN as well as it's view towards the cellular network. In the exercise participants are deepening their understanding of the SGSN role and planning parameters, by dimensioning a given example network with predefined traffic from several regions of a Radio Network. This exercise will be carried on the Gb/Iu side, and based on a mix of IP, Frame Relay and ATM transport. The results of the exercise should give the figures for capacity towards registers and charging subsystems Flexi NS - SGSN ATCA Platform and Dimensioning This module introduces the implementation of NSN SGSN as well as it's view towards the cellular network. In the exercise the participants are deepening their understanding of the SGSN role and planning parameters, by dimensioning a given example network with predefined traffic from several regions of a Radio network. This exercise will be carried on the Gb/Iu side. The results of the exercise should give the figures for capacity towards registers and charging subsystems. Flexi NG Platform and dimensioning This module introduces the different approaches to implement GGSN and Service Awareness functionality with NSN Flexi NG.

In the exercise the participants are deepening their understanding of the topics mentioned so far, by dimensioning a given example network with predefined GPRS traffic and access scenarios. This exercise will be carried out only on the Gn and Gi side, and based on different Gi interfacing methods. Site VLAN and IP Network planning This learning element gives a brief overview of different site connectivity solutions, and focuses on GPRS relevant scenarios (GSN connectivity) and related equipment (as Firewalls, DNS servers, LIC/LIB) In Exercises part the participants gather the results of the FlexiISN and SGSN site VLAN and IP network planning exercises and combine the results into a high level site network plan suited for a site with FlexiISN/ISNs and SGSN/SGSNs

This course is using printouts and screenshots to illustrate the actual configuration on NSN Network Elements. This course is not offering practical exercises to actually touch the equipment (this is done in O&M trainings). Explains basic calculation methods for dimensioning in a tool and format independent way using plain MS-Excel sheets as examples. Has practical exercises of a hypothetical network, to perform basic dimensioning and Site planning. 5 days 12 THY=Theoretical course ADV advanced ECCN: 5E991X AL-Number: N
