College of Engineering and Computer Science Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering
The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Portland State University has established area specializations in power engineering within their Master and Bachelor electrical engineering degree programs.

Graduate students specializing in power engineering will be able to take up to nine powerrelated courses, accounting for 36 of the 45 credits required for graduation. Graduate students have three degree option: Master of Engineering in Electrical and Computer Engineering (coursework only) Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (thesis) Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (coursework, comprehensive exams) Program prerequisites: Students should have a solid understanding of power systems components and fundamental power systems analysis techniques. PSUs ECE 347 (nonrotating power systems components, fundamental analytical methods) and ECE 348 (rotating power systems components, power systems controls) both prepare students for the MS EE power engineering specialization. Similar coursework from other universities is transferable.

Master EE Power Engineering Specialization

BS EE Power Engineering Specialization

BS students will take five power engineering courses, three of which will feature handson laboratories. In addition, they will also take upperdivision coursework in thermodynamics, microprocessors, electromagnetism, applied statistics, feedback & control, and Fourier analysis. Students will be also take a preparatory course for the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, and they will be encouraged to select Capstone projects that feature powerrelated problems.
