Sa pagsuko ni Napoles, magtuturo na raw
Nina Michael Lim Ubac at Christine O. Avendao

He (President) wants the truth to come out and now were closer to the truth, hopefully, with her coming out, ani Edwin Lacierda, tagapagsalita ng Pangulo.

pagkakulong. Let me just stress that the fact of one becoming a state witness is with the prosecution. It depends now on who will handle the case. If its with the Ombudsman, its the Ombudsman who will determine whether she can be a state witness. So that is not within our prerogative, its with the body that will be prosecuting the case, aniya.

The President has decided not to proceed... taking into consideration Chinas request for the president to visit China at a more conducive time, sabi kahapon ni Raul Hernandez, tagapagsalita ng Department of Foreign Affairs.

Shes not an influential person. What is important is the President received surrender feelers from her and he decided that Ms Napoles, being a possible witness or a (fugitive) ..., everything should be done so that she would be returned to the custody or ambit of the

Im amazed at the script of the whole drama. Meaning to s a y, o n e d a y s o m e o n e a nnounces a reward for the capture of somebody.

Pregnant smokers doom even future generations

Tagle: Pay your taxes honestly

PAY YOUR taxes accordingly, avoid magic and cutting corners and most importantly, do business with fairness, honesty and integrity, and with much discernment of Gods will, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle told the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP), a Catholic charismatic organization which celebrated its 34th Grand National Breakfast Anniversary. Jocelyn R. Uy

WOMEN who smoke during pregnancy endanger the health not just of the child they are bearing but also that of their future great-grandchildren, an antismoking group said yesterday.
HealthJustice said a recent study in the American Journal of PhysiologyLung Cellular and Molecular Physiology showed smoking during pregnancy is linked to asthma up to the third generation. This means that a womans smoking can afflict offspring far beyond her own children, going as far as her great-grandchildren, it added. The group noted that earlier studies have demonstrated how parental smoking has been linked to behavioral problems as well as to a decrease

in cognitive function and self-control in children. Even though there are multiple causes for childhood asthma, research linking this serious chronic condition to maternal nicotine exposure during pregnancy for up to three generations should give mothersto-be even more reasons to reconsider smoking, HealthJustice quoted doctor Virender K. Rehan, the author of the study, as saying.

Eliminating the use of tobacco during pregnancy could help halt the rise in childhood asthma and ensure healthier children for generations to come, it added. Lawyer Diana Trivino, HealthJustice project manager, said Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and asthma are among the leading causes of deaths in the Philippines. Studies have shown how the disease can affect pro-

ductivity and impair ones quality of life. People need to know that their smoking can seriously affect the health and welfare of their children and of their childrens children, Trivino said. If information such as this were to be placed on cigarette packs, maybe fewer parents would continue to smoke, she added.

Malditas will compete in SEAG

By Marc Anthony Reyes
THE womens football team got the green light from the Philippine Olympic Committee executive board to join the 152 athletes who were officially endorsed for inclusion in the national team to the Burma (Myanmar) Southeast Asian Games. Known as the Malditas, they became the first team sports to be included after the mens national quintet despite the previous stand of top sports officials to limit the countrys participation to the minimum due to Burmas questionable tweaking of the SEAG calendar. The mens football under23 team and the national womens basketball squad are still being considered for inclusion pending deliberation with the Task Force SEAG. POC chair Tom Carrasco of triathlon said the cagebelles known as Discovery Perlas still has to prove its mettle in the Fiba-Asia womens championships late October in Bangkok. We can reach as many as 266 athletes or even less but the number will certainly not go beyond that, said Carrasco. Left behind is the dragon boat team whose association Philippine Canoe-Kayak Federation is wracked by infighting that the POC is trying to solve through arbitration.

I hope we carry this momentum in the second round, sabi ni Generals coach Gerry Esplana. We lost our lead in the fourth quarter, but we settled down and worked extra hard on defense.
