STANDARDIZATION AND CERTIFICATION IN PUMP ENGINEERING

The Gidromash MK International Corporation is one of the largest in the world and is the largest maker of pumping equipment in the former USSR. The corporation was formed in 1986 as the union of three pumping organizations in Moscow region. The successive addition of new works resulted in a large industrial organization capable of handling any aspect of pump design. Now the corporation links eleven plants in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, and Latvia, which produce 30% by volume and 80% by range of all pumps in the post-Soviet area. The corporation employs about 15 thousand people. The production program covers over 1500 standard sizes of pumps (apart from modifications) for use in water supply, drainage, oil and gas extraction, transportation, and processing, and for the chemical, mining, and food industries, for ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy, forestry, power engineering, transportation, aerospace use, and so on. The products are exported to dozens of countries. The corporation participates in major specialized exhibitions such as AXEMA in Germany, AXEMA-Asia in China, Neftegaz in the USA and Russia, Contemporary Technology in France, and so on. The headquarters of the corporation are in Moscow, together with the technical center and industrial trade house, with branches in other regions. The corporation is a basic member of the Russian Pump Makers Association and is a member of Europump and of the subsection on hydraulic machine design of the Russian Engineering Academy. In the latter, there is a special subdivision of the department concerned with pump design at Bauman Moscow State Technical University. A major line for the corporation and the Russian Pump Makers Association concerns standardization and certification in pump design. It is widely recognized that ten years ago, the corporation was one of the sponsors of the NASTKhOL Certification Center, which was the first such in the country and which for all that time has rightly occupied the leading position in its area and has become widely known abroad. The experts at the center are highly skilled and have the latest test equipment and good working contacts with pump makers, which has led the Russian Pump Makers Association and the corporation to support the setting up of Technical Committee on Pumps TK 245 at NASTKhOL. A decree issued by the Russian Federation State Standards Commission on TK 245 assigns it much to do on revising Russian Federation standards on pumps and on harmonizing them with international standards. On the tenth anniversary of the NASTKhOL Certification Center, teams numbering many thousands in the Russian Pump Makers Association and the Gidromash MK Corporation wish the team at the center success in their work of advancing Russian engineering.
