Jackson County GOP Fall Fundraiser

October 16 - Iowas senior U. S. senator, Chuck Grassley, will be the featured speaker at the Jackson GOP Fall Dinner at 5:30 pm Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Bellevue Community Center, 1700 State Street. The following candidates will also speak at the event: First District Congressional candidate Ben Lange; State Representative Brian Moore, candidate for new House District 58; and County Supervisor candidate David Kendell. Sen. Grassley has served in the U.S. Senate since the election of 1980, and has earned a reputation for keeping in touch with voters by visiting each county in Iowa at least once a year. He is well regarded for his common sense values and holding government accountable. Today he holds the longest record of not missing a vote of any senator in office. He stays connected with voters by responding to every phone call, letter and email from Iowans, and by communicating with Iowans extensively online via Facebook, Twitter and his own website, as well: www.grassley.senate.gov . Grassley currently serves as ranking member of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, where he works for a competitive marketplace with antitrust enforcement

As a senior member of the Senate Committee on the Budget, he exhibits his personal frugality in the nations capitol. Also on the Senate Committee on Agriculture, he brings real-life experience as a family farmer to farm policy. Former chairman of the Committee on Finance, he led $2 trillion in tax cuts through Congress, leaving more money in workers pockets, making the tax code more progressive, and spurring economic growth. Prior to his years in the U.S., Senate, he was a farmer, factory worker, state legislator, and U.S. Representative. He and his wife, Barbara, have five children. Lange grew up in Quasqueton, the son of a meat plant worker and nurse. He earned his B.A. in political science from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX and earned his law degree from Hamline University Law School in St. Paul, MN. He was the first in his family to earn a four-year college degree. He and his wife, Kelly, have three young daughters, 5, 3, and 1. He has a law practice in Independence. Lange was also the 2010 Republican nominee for U.S. Congress in Iowa's 1st congressional district. First-term incumbent Rep. Brian Moore of rural Bellevue is a candidate in the new Iowa House District 58, which includes all of Jackson County, much of Jones County and a part of western Dubuque County. He serves on the following committees: Agriculture, Environmental Protection, Labor, Ways and Means, and TIC Budget. Moore owns Elwood Feed and Livestock, a livestock transportation business. He is a member of the Jackson County Cattlemans Association, the Farm Bureau, and the Bellevue Marquette Booster Club. He earned his Associates Degree in Ag Business from Kirkwood Community College. Moores wife, Kim, is a teacher at Marquette Catholic High School in Bellevue; they have eight children. Supervisor candidate David Kendell has been the owner of Kendell Farms and Annies Acres since 1987. He has also served as Manager of Historical Properties for the Bellevue Trading Company since 1980. He received his Bachelors Degree from Iowa State University in Agricultural Business, with a minor in Marketing Management, in 1980. From 1980 to 1987 he was a broker, advisor and program manager for the Farmers Commodities Corporation. Kendell served two terms as a Jackson County Supervisor from 1996 through 2004; he served as Chairman of the Board in 1997, 2001 and 2004. He served on several

boards and committees, including the East Central Intergovernmental Association (ECIA), ECIA Business Growth Committee, and Operation New View. He and his wife, Ann, are the parents of three children. Tickets are available in advance from central committee members or at the door--cost is $10 for adults, with family members under 18 admitted free. An auction and short central committee meeting will be held following the dinner.
