The minimum end projections for smaller bars is governed by the practicalities of bending bars. NOTE 1 The Length equations for shape codes 14, 15, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36 and 46 are approximate and where the bend angle is greater than 45, the length should be calculated more accurately allowing for the difference between the specified overall dimensions and the true length measured along the central axis of the bar. When the bending angles approach 90, it is prefarable to specify shape code 99 with a fully dimensioned sketch. NOTE 2 Five bends or more might be impractical within permitted tolerances. NOTE 3 For shapes with straight and curved lengths (e.g shape codes 12, 13, 22, 33 and 47) the largest practical mandrel size for the production of a continuous curve is 400mm. See also Clause 10. NOTE 4 Stock lengths are available in a limited number of lengths (e.g 6m, 12m). Dimension A for shape code 01 should be regarded as indicative and used for the purpose of calculating total length. Actual delivery lengths should be by agreement with the supplier.
Reinforcing Bar
Bar can now be supplied in three grades; B500A, B500B and B500C all conforming to BS4449; 2005. Long length bars up to 18m can be obtained subject to availability. Note - In practice there might be physical restrictions on certain shape codes for particular bar diameters, especially where the shape has overlapping sections, for example s/c 33. Consideration shall be given to using alternative detailing arrangements which are SAFER to manufacture E.G two s/c 13s instead of s/c 33.

Expamet Hy-Rib
Hy-Rib can increase your productivity. Hy-Rib joint surfaces require minimal preparation prior to the next pour except for the rebar cover zones. Hy-Rib can be installed in less time than traditional materials such as plywood. Hy-Rib can be cut easily on site with disc cutters. Hy-Rib reduces the pore/water pressure on the construction joint by up to 50%. Hy-Rib support systems can be rationalised as a result of the lower pore/water pressures. Hy-Rib allows the pour to be visually monitored. Hy-Rib open mesh helps reduce the risks of voids and honeycombing by allowing the air to expel through it whilst placing the concrete. Hy-Rib can be fixed before or after reinforcement placement
(ideal when an unexpected daywork joint is needed).
Hy-Rib enables a high rate of rise of concrete to be achieved. Hy-Rib can be used in water retaining structures with or without water bar/stops.
Expamet Hy-Rib is manufactured from hot-dipped zinc coated steel sheet to BS EN 10142 1991.

Kwikastrip
Reinforcement continuity system for fast track construction Introduction The concept of reinforcement continuity strip has been in widespread use throughout Europe for over 20 years, and repeatedly demonstrates itself to be a simple, time-saving and cost-effective method of maintaining reinforcement continuity across construction joints in concrete. The system comprises special pre-bent reinforcement housed in a purpose-designed carrier casing - all of which is fabricated off-site in a factory controlled environment. On site, the entire unit is cast into the front face of the wall. After the formwork is struck, the lid is removed to reveal the connection legs (or starter bars) laying inside the casing. These legs are bent out by the contractor, ready for lapping the main reinforcement of the consequent pour. The casing remains embedded in the wall, providing a rebate into which the concrete of the adjoining member is poured, and eliminates the need for traditional preparation (i.e. scabbling) at the joint. Applications Quite simply, any construction joint in concrete has the potential to be formed by this method. Normal applications include: walls floor slabs staircase landings stair flights brick support nibs corbels pile caps underpinning gutters & chambers balconies
Quality Assurance Kwikastrip is the only continuity system of its type to be manufactured under a CARES* approved quality system to BS EN ISO 9002:1994. *The UK Certification Authority for Reinforcing Steels. Benefits Simplifies formwork design - bypass those construction joints! Accelerates pour schedules - suits todays fast track build methods Easy to use - an answer to skills shortages of chippies and steel fixers No formwork damage or wastage - no drilled holes in shutters / no wasted stop ends Enables systems formwork to be used - e.g. steel forms / climbing and slip forms Starter bars remain protected and clean - theyre inside the casing until needed! No projecting bars - better working access in confined areas and improved site safety
