Introduction
NTUST, founded in 1974, is one of Taiwans leading universities, possessing an excellent record as an outstanding research and educational institution in Asia. NTUST offers students an extensive spectrum of programs in an innovative and friendly learning environment. Our student numbers over 9,000 students enrolled in bachelors, masters and doctoral degree programs. These include two kinds of programs: (1) The Chinese-speaking program: the courses will be taught in Chinese; (2) The Englishspeaking graduate program: the courses will be taught in English.

2. Terms of Study

Undergraduate program: 2-year program: 2-4 years; 4-year program: 4-6 years Master program: 1-4 years Ph. D. program: 2-7 years 3. Academic Year NUTST runs 2 semesters in each academic year. Spring semester is scheduled from February to June, while fall semester is from September to January of the following year. 4. Financial Aid For All-English programs, among the admitted students, the selected ones will be offered scholarship. For the first year, tuition and fees are waived for the entire school year and a monthly stipend of NT$10,000 is granted to a master program student and NT$15,000 is granted to a doctoral student. For the second-year master students and second-year PhD students, the scholarship will be offered as long as the students meet certain requirements. All international students can also apply for the Taiwan Scholarship offered by the government. However, those who have already received financial aid from other sources including Taiwan Scholarship are not eligible to apply NTUST scholarship.

5. Application (1) Qualification A) The applicant who fit any of the followings is NOT eligible to apply: a) Applicant who own overseas Chinese status b) Applicant who possess the citizenship of the Hong Kong, Macau, or Mainland China. c) Applicant who already completed a high school degree as an international student in R.O.C. and plans to pursue further degree. d) Applicant who has been expelled from any R.O.C. university or college. e) Applicant who holds the Republic of China nationality (as defined in *Article 2 of Law of Nationality) f) Applicant who once held nationality has not renounced it for more than 8 years, up until the classes beginning date of registered semester. B) International students with a high school diploma are eligible to apply for undergraduate studies; bachelors degree for masters programs; masters degree are eligible to apply for Ph.D. programs. International students breaking either of the above rules would result in

immediate cancellation of the applicants admission or the applicant will be deprived of his recognized status as a student of NTUST.
*Article 2 of the law of Nationality A person who meets one of the following requirements acquires the nationality of the Republic of China: 1. A person whose father or mother is, at the time of his (her) birth, a citizen of the Republic of China. 2. A person born after the death of his (her) father or mother who was, at the time of his (her) death, a citizen of the Republic of China. 3. A person born in the territory of the Republic of China and whose parents are both unknown or are stateless. 4. A naturalized person. The provisions specified in sub-paragraphs 1 and 2 of the preceding paragraph shall apply to minor children on the date of the promulgation of the amendment of this Law.

(2) Deadline The application deadlines are as follows:


English programs with NTUST scholarship: Fall semester: March 31; Spring semester: Nov. 30.

Other programs without NTUST scholarship: December 31. However, late applications may be processed for next semester due to the time restrictions for applicants visa application or documentation authentication procedures (normally takes at least several weeks to two months) and NTUST final review schedule. (3) Application procedures: A. Apply via NTUST on line application system. Create an account and enter your personal data via the system. After filling out the application form on line, make sure all the information is correct, the press "submit" to confirmation page and print out the application form, declaration, authorization, and cover page. B. Sign you name on the completed application form, declaration, and authorization. C. Submission: Send by registered mail: Please send via registered mail to the department/institute which you plan to apply. Send in person: Please send to the department which you plan to apply or Graduate Studies Section (graduate program) /Section of the Registrar (undergraduate program)

during office hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 A.M.-12:00A.M, 1:30PM-5:00PM. (4) Required documents: A) One completed application form, declaration, and authorization (The authorization is
for the purpose of empowering NTUST to verify the accuracy of any of submitted information or statements.) that printed out via NTUST application system.

B) One official photocopy of the B.S. diploma and its English translation should be submitted for applying to the M.S. program. The photocopy must be authenticated by an overseas Embassy or Mission of Republic of China (Taiwan). translation are required. C) One official transcript of academic records in English , which should bear the official seal of the school attended and authenticated by an overseas Embassy or Mission of Republic of China (Taiwan). If the official academic records are not in English, an English translation, together with the original, is acceptable. D) One financial statement in English showing sufficient funds to cover applicants study in Taiwan. The financial statement must be authenticated by an overseas Embassy or Mission of Republic of China (Taiwan). Current Taiwan scholarship recipient should submit photocopy of Taiwan scholarship award certificate. E) Two letters of recommendation. F) Certificate of English proficiency test (ex: TOEFL, TOEIC). G) A Health Certificate from a hospital within the past 3 months . (This health certificate may also be submitted after receiving admission notice. However, it should be sent to NTUST no later than designated deadline indicated on that notice; otherwise, their admission will be cancelled.) The examinations should include the following items: (a) Chest X-Ray for Tuberculosis (Standard film only, do NOT send the original X-Ray film). (b) Serological Test for HIV. (c) Stool Examination for Parasites (Includes Entamoeba histolytica etc.) (MerthiolateIodine-Formaldehyde method, MIF method). (d) Serological Test for Syphilis For applying admission to the Ph. D. Program, both B.S. and M.S. diplomas as well as their English

(e) MMR vaccination record or positive Antibody titer to measles & rubella. H) A study plan in English. I) Other documents required by each department or graduate school. 6. Cost of Study The following tuition rates apply only to the 2007 academic year. The rates are expected to rise annually thereafter.
