COURSE SYNOPSIS: This course introduces biological topics such as the typical and chemical organization of living organisms, cell structure, function and metabolism, classical and molecular genetics, gene regulation, genetic engineering, molecular aspects in development and reproduction.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: At the end of this course, students are able to: 1. Describe the cellular processes of living organisms with an emphasis on biological chemistry applications. (C2) 2. Demonstrate the ability to read, understand and review scientific papers. (C4) 3. Show an appreciation of the role of scientific method in the accumulation and discoveries of biological knowledge. (A3) 4. Communicate effectively during discussion. (CS3)
