Introduction
In 2010, the Conservative Party raised $17.4 million. We raised $6.4. In 2011, the Conservative Party raised $22.7 million. We raised $10.1. In 2012, the Conservative Party raised $17.1 million. We raised $8.2.

The Conservatives raise over $2 for every $1 we raise

Electing a Liberal Majority Government in 2015 requires a great leader, impressive candidates, hard work by every Liberal, and terrific policies. Those requirements will be more than met; they have been, are, and will be exceeded. But it will be in vain unless we have the funds to reach out to Canadians, hire field organizers for our ridings, and counter Conservative and NDP attack ads. If we want a Liberal Majority Government, we will need to significantly improve our fundraising. At the heart of fundraising lies a simple truth: People donate to causes they believe in and to organizations that they have relationships with. If we want a Liberal Majority Government, we will need to build relationships with potential donors, renew our relationships with past donors, and strengthen our relationships with our current donors. But to fully close the fundraising gap between us and the Conservative party, we will also need to build effective fundraising processes, renew our fundraising practices, and strengthen EDA fundraising.

Build. Renew. Strengthen.

Ive been Delta-Richmond Easts Fundraising Chair and Vice-President, Ive sat on the LPCBC Finance and Fundraising Committee, and Ive assisted the fundraising efforts of internal LPC campaigns. I have ten years experience raising funds in the NGO and Charitable Sectors. I have the skills and experience to build, renew, and strengthen our fundraising.

Build. Renew. Strengthen.

If you elect me as LPCBC Finance Chair, thats how we will do better.

Build
effective fundraising processes
Building relationships with potential donors must be supported by effective fundraising processes. Its not enough to simply ask for money when we need it; we need to make fundraising appeals part of comprehensive and strategic fundraising campaigns. We must use every tool at our disposal, including direct mail, e-solicits, and phone canvassing. We must use social media and online advertising to make sure our fundraising campaigns reach as many people as possible. We must be aware of the strengths and limitations of each medium, and plan our campaigns accordingly. We must then fully evaluate the results of our campaigns. An effective fundraising process is a bulwark against the tides of misfortune. The decade Ive spent fundraising in the NGO sector has given me the skills and experiences necessary to build and implement effective fundraising processes.

relationships with potential donors

The Conservatives dont just have more money- they have more donors. In 2010, over 95 000 people donated to the Conservative Party compared to a little over 32 000 who donated to us. In 2011, over 110 000 people donated to the Conservative party compared to over 49 000 who donated to us. We need to attract more potential supporters to our cause and build a relationship with them that will convince them that were an organization worth supporting. Public events, community get-togethers, and door canvassing are necessary if we want to overcome the Conservatives fundraising advantage. An added benefit is that as we build relationships with potential Liberal donors, we will build relationships with potential Liberal voters too.

My Promise: Better Fundraising Campaigns

I will ensure our fundraising campaigns are fully planned, thoughtfully executed, employ best practices, and have their results fully analyzed.

Renew
our fundraising practices
Fundraising practices are constantly evolving. Ours must as well. A/B Testing. Facebook and Google Ads. PVM (Potential Voter Modeling). Donor Questionnaires. Friend-to-Friend Donor Contact. The Obama for Americas Airwolf. All of these are cutting-edge techniques that will galvanize our fundraising campaigns. We need a Finance Chair that can incorporate new practices effectively into more traditional fundraising campaigns. We need a Finance Chair that can renew our fundraising efforts with cutting-edge technologies and techniques. My fundraising experience in the charitable sector coupled with my political experience means Im poised to renew our fundraising practices.

relationships with past donors

There are many people who have donated to the LPC in the past who dont do so currently. We need to reach out to them to learn why and see if we can renew our relationship with them. In-person discussions, donor surveys, and events are all opportunities to have candid conversations with people who used to donate but no longer do. Past donors may not always talk to us, and when they do, the conversations will be humbling. But we must have them if we are to learn how we can renew these relationships.

My Promise: Engaging past donors

I will meet with past donors to listen to their concerns, discover why they stopped donating, and incorporate their feedback into LPCBC fundraising.

Strengthen
EDA fundraising
Our EDAs are the representatives of LPCBC and the LPC that are closest to our donors. Successful fundraising means that our EDAs must be partners in the process, and that they must have effective fundraising skills and meaningful dialogue with LPCBC. Ive heard from EDA executives what EDAs need for effective fundraising. I have seen how important it is that we have an effective Finance and Fundraising Committee. As Finance Chair, I will work with EDAs to ensure that they have the skills and the strategies they need to succeed. I will regularly engage with EDAs and our Finance and Fundraising committee to ensure that our fundraising efforts are fully integrated. Thats how we will strengthen our fundraising in the EDAs.

our relationships with current donors

Our donors cant only hear from us when we want money. We need to consistently reach out to them. Donor appreciation campaigns must become regular occurances rather than the occasional . Donor surveys must be sent out so we can learn what our donors value about our organization and why they continue to support it. Donor events to meet them in person, hear their concerns, and report on our successes. People who donate their money and their time are the lifeblood of our organization. We need to strengthen our relationships with our current donors to ensure that they will continue to invest in LPC, LPCBC, and our EDAs.

My Promise: A plan for every BC riding

I will work with every EDA executive to develop fundraising strategic plans tailored to each riding and their capacity.
