Visa Debit cardholders save five percent on utility bills

Cardholders enjoy more convenience and security when paying bills online with Visa
Debit

Mumbai, 17 June 2009 – Visa Debit cardholders can enjoy a five percent discount1 until 30 September 2009
when they pay their utility bills online through www.visabillpay.in under the new Visa Bill Pay Discount
Program. More than 80 billers across India are participating in the program, each offering discounts on
everyday services such as electricity, mobile phone, gas, insurance and water.

Bill payment can be a time-consuming process with consumers having to track various due dates, write
checks and deposit them at the drop-box or queue at the merchant payment center. According to the Visa
e-Commerce Consumer Monitor, survey respondents said the top three reasons for paying bills online were to
save time (36 percent), convenience (23 percent), and being able keep a record of transactions (15 percent)2.

The Visa Bill Pay service addresses each of these needs by offering a one-stop portal with access to multiple
billers in a single location. The service offers additional protection to cardholders and merchants through
Verified by Visa by authenticating both parties in the transaction. Cardholders can also earn loyalty or reward
points from using their Visa Debit cards if their issuing bank offers a rewards program.

Uttam Nayak, country manager, South Asia, Visa said, “With a mouse click, Visa Debit cardholders can
view their bills, access billing details and history, and make more secure payments over the internet. We hope
the promotion will encourage more cardholders to pay their bills online using their Visa Debit cards, save
some time by not having to queue at counters or ATMs and get a discount off their bill as part of the service.”

An industry report by The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India states that online bill
payment in India is expected to save consumers up to 80 hours a year. Currently, the average Indian
household in the top 10 Indian cities pays approximately 50 bills annually, mostly from finance, insurance,
telecommunication and utility-based companies, as well as electricity, water, housing tax and other civic
levies3.
