SATURDAY
PRECONFERENCE
Individuals will have two opportunities for preconvention workshop Saturday, October 19th. Jodi Larson and Blaire Baldwin will team up and provide workshops for teachers to learn and use a variety of computer apps and programs to help our educators become more effective in the health and physical education classroom. As school districts continue to encourage all teachers to use technology, IAHPERD would like to offer all teachers the opportunity to learn from Jodi and Blaire about some of the teaching strategies that they have been successful in their classes. The second opportunity, Iowa DNR, Donise Peterson is offering the Basic Archery Instructor training; this is an outstanding course for all physical education teachers and archery program organizers. There is a limit of 15 spots for this event if you have questions please email Bev Ahern. SATURDAY NIGHT Saturday night we will meet at the lighthouse behind the Fieldhouse. The evening session will start at 6:00 with an alternate shot, 9 hole disc golf tournament. Come join the fun, for great ideas for your class and community. After the tournament we will go into the Fieldhouse for lessons that have been influence by Iowa natives Jay and Des Reading EDGE Disc Golf Curriculum, as well as skills and rules the game KAN JAM and Disc LaCrosse. Attendees of this session will be able to apply for a disc golf grant and we will be giving out four $500 grants and some KAN JAM sets.

SUNDAYAND MONDAY
CONFERENCE
Sunday, the official start of convention, will be in the Fieldhouse with a welcome from President Fred Moore of Buena Vista University. The theme is Shinning a Light on Iowas Future. Governor Branstad has challenged the state to become the healthiest state by 2016. The IAHPERD board would like to take the opportunity during convention to update individuals on national and state initiatives, inspire people with some of the best presenters in our field, and open the door to new ideas for your curriculum. The following people are just a few of the talented individuals that will be presenting at this years convention. Helen Eddy - Will update us on our Iowas state initiatives Greg Welk Physical activity researcher from Iowa State. Scientific Director of Fitness Gram Assessment. Shellie Phofl - Executive Director of the President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition - Update us on opportunities that exist for all teachers. Gale Weidow - President of AAHPERD will enlighten our state with the changes and updates of the unification of AAHPERD. Robyn Brezting Has been in Iowa before and IAHPERD has been encouraged to bring her back. She will energize the entire conference with her knowledge and talent. Jen Ohlson Health needs a Hero. Lisa Weber - Live Healthy Iowa Kids/Live Healthy Iowa Grants. In 2004 there were 27,030 in the program, last year there were 78,805 students involved. Lisa will share the updates and bring awareness of Live Healthy Iowa Kids as a part of our curriculum Beth Kirkpatrick - How do you know what is being accomplish in your class? Beth will show a new affordable product that is simple for education that provides meaningful data for teachers and students. No more buttons to push Mike Boone - Adaptive Sports Iowa, Mike is speaking during two breakout session Brain Button Iowa DNR Iowa Outdoors Magazine Inspiring people to get outside .
