ABB Damper Drives The worlds's most comprehensive offering

In recent years, ABB a $25 billion global technology group acquired the Bailey, Hartmann & Braun and Sensycon brands. Consolidating these products under the ABB name has given us the unique ability to provide both digital as well as conventional damper drive solutions. The result is a comprehensive offering from ABB that is unsurpassed on the market today.

Welcome to the Family

ABBs broad damper drive line consistently delivers quality, power and performance to a range of industries. With our strength in the power utility market, ABB damper drive products are also ideally suited for a wide range of applications in other industries such as pulp & paper and cement & metals. For windbox damper reliability to the exact controlling and speed of response required for forced draft and induced draft dampers, ABB has the solution for your application.

Diagnostic functions can be configured to activate an alarm output or to provide self-diagnostic messages, which minimizes downtime. Damper drive commissioning is virtually worry-free. Contrac Electric Modulating Actuators promote quick, convenient setting of the zero and span in seconds, by using either the self-calibrating mode or by using local up/down buttons. No mechanical stops are required, and adjustment of the output torque can be electronically adjusted. LP and UP Linear and Rotary Electropneumatic Actuators are readily calibrated and set up in a matter of minutes using the AUTOSTROKE function of the TZID-C.

Advanced Digital Solutions

ABB harnesses the power of digital technology to provide a number of features for flawless control and an array of diagnostic capabilities.

Ready for the Future Part of ABBs FieldIT Suite

The damper drive line is a member of ABBs new Field IT solutions suite. Field IT products incorporate a Device Type Manager (DTM) into their design. This enables each devices embedded intelligence to be utilized and integrated into plant and business systems, enabling power utilities and other industries to streamline work processes for lower deployment costs, better process/product quality, improved availability, reduced maintenance costs, and greater throughput. As a subset of ABBs comprehensive family of Industrial IT solutions, Field IT provides the opportunity to integrate Industrial IT throughout the life cycle of your field devices. Another important component of Field IT is the Field Device Tool (FDT). The primary goal of the FDT concept is a plantwide configuration of DCS, fieldbus and field instruments. Supported by DTM-embedded field devices, the FDT enables the engineering system to handle field instruments like function blocks. SMARTVISION, a Windows-based single management software tool for all field devices, is the third tool supporting Field IT. Its modular structure allows use as a stand-alone configuration tool or for integration as an engineering tool in a control system. SMARTVISION enables the transfer of application-specific device data, including calibration, commissioning, diagnostics, and maintenance. Its file management capabilities make storing and downloading preconfigured files possible.

Communication
Digital bidirectional communication enables remote monitoring and control either on an individual unit basis or as part of an existing DCS. Communication is achieved through direct RS-232 or fieldbus connection via HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus or PROFIBUS protocols.

The Complete Installation Solution Add an ABB Actuator

ABB can help you complete your damper drive installations and projects by providing one-stop-shopping for actuators. Our linear line includes linear electric modulating actuators, multiturn on/off devices and a range of electropneumatic valve automation solutions.

Electropneumatic Damper
The American Workhorse for 60 years - now with
Introducing the Digital Generation
ABB electropneumatic damper drives are the culmination of heritage products long recognized as the industry standard now marketed under the ABB name and designed with ABBs leading-edge digital technology.

LP Linear Piston Actuator Assemblies

The LP series of damper drives provide a costeffective linear actuation solution that is ideally suited for applications like windbox-dampers. The conventional assembly, which uses the AV Positioner series, offers a high temperature option up to 250F. In comparison, our digital solution allows for operation up to 185F, plus the added features of digital control. LP sizes range from a 2.5 diameter cylinder with a 5 stroke (2.5x 5) up to a 12 x 14 unit.

Supporting Traditional Solutions

While ABB answers the demand for digital solutions, we remain committed to supplying solid solutions for the conventional world. Thus, it is no surprise that ABB has reintroduced the LP Linear Piston Actuator Assemblies, and continues to offer our standard UP Electro-pneumatic Rotary Actuators.

UP Rotary Actuator Assemblies

The UP Electropneumatic Rotary Actuators (formerly sold under the Bailey name) have served as the American workhorse of damper drives for nearly 60 years, a testament to their high performance and durability. Most recently, ABB introduced the TZID-C Smart Electropneumatic Positioner. Modular in design, the TZID-C is configurable and features digital communications and diagnostics.

Revitalize Existing Damper Drives

ABB has developed upgrade kits for converting existing UP and AC units from conventional control to digital control. These upgrade kits include a TZID-C (optional press-fit isolation valve manifold) and mounting hardware designed especially for the UP and AC designs. We also have kits to upgrade existing AV and AP positioners, whether mounted on damper drives or valves. We can also assist in upgrading damper drives from other manufacturers. Please contact our Valve Automation Instrument technical support group for details.
