Aims to answer the CHEDs integration program especially in programs offered by CHED Centers of Excellence b. Align its offering with the Draft Policies, Standards and Guidelines of CHED for AB Sociology programs c. Similar to AB Social Sciences: only 2 courses are added to the existing AB SOS program to make AB SOC program more compliant to CHED requirements d. Total # of units: 140 2) New Course Proposals a. SOCSCI 109 Understanding the Self: The Person, Community, and Nation (3 units) Action Done by the Unit: 1) Discussed the newly proposed AB Sociology program proposed by the Department of Sociology and Anthropology: AB Sociology, which aims to answer the CHEDs vertical integration policy 2) Discussed the newly proposed courses Results: 1) AB Sociology a. Comments and Questions i. Where is the distinction between the two programs as both are exactly the same aside from the 6-unit difference? 1. Make it more differentiated and distinct from one another to avoid revolt in the department 2. Why not have a separate AB Anthropology program instead? ii. What kind of effect will these have on the students since the difference is minimal? 1. Worries how students will choose their courses, the distinctiveness of the course/degree 2. AB SOC: Social Sciences, AB SOS: Anthropology iii. The AB SOS program will still be retained as space for Anthropology, and AB SOC will be an analytical lens in engaging the Social Sciences iv. Problem with slash courses 1. Was pointed out that AB SOC and AB SOS students will only have 1 class together, seems problematic as Social Sciences and Anthropology have different approaches 2. Only few faculty members available to teach in the SA department 3. There seems to be a proliferation of slash courses 4. Students are forced to learn things not part of their major (due to few students in the SA department); mixed classes and have only 1 classroom, causes confusion 5. Preparation for slash courses, maybe have guidelines v. Cannot see the difference between the proposal submitted, it seems rather redundant. It would be better to dissolve the old AB SOS program vi. Retain the old catalog names as it might cause confusion 1. Proposed SOC catalog names will be retained to SA

vii. Problem with integrating the vertical integration policy while retaining the old program 1. AB SOC: Center of Excellence viii. Is it possible to do tracking? First few years will be the same and later on branch out so those who want a more Anthropology or Sociology specific program b. Final Recommendations i. Write-ups and syllabus will be revised to make the two programs more distinct (differentiation between AB SOC and AB SOS) since there is no clear division between the two ii. Certain classes should be separated/branched out to avoid confusion and for the two programs to be more distinct from one another iii. Should be discussed between the dean and VP as this seems to be more than a curricular matter iv. Need for student feedback regarding the newly proposed program v. No voting took place 2) New Course Proposals a. Comments and Questions i. Comments are mostly about revisions of course descriptions ii. Distinction between ELL 36 and EN 212.13 (essentially the same) iii. SOCSCI 109: the Humanities department offers a similar course, but the committee feels that it is similar to core Philo subjects offered. However, they believe that this course is needed by the Social Sciences iv. FA-CW 102.6: the course does not focus on experiential matter, rather, it focuses solely on writing b. Final Recommendations i.
