Hymns of Praise
7:30 a.m. 11:00 a.m.

I SURRENDER ALL
Verse 1 All to Jesus I surrender, All to Him I freely give; I will ever love and trust Him, In His presence daily live. Chorus I surrender all (I surrender all) I surrender all (I surrender all) All to Thee, my blessed Savior, I surrender all. Verse 2 All to Jesus I surrender, Humbly at His Feet I bow; Worldly pleasures all Forsaken, Take me Jesus, take me now. Verse 3 All to Jesus I surrender, Make me Savior, wholly Thine, Fill me with Thy Holy Spirit, truly know that Thou art mine. Verse 4 All to Jesus I surrender, Lord, I give Myself to Thee; Fill me with Thy Love and power, Let thy blessings Fall on me.

MY FAITH LOOKS UP TO THEE

Verse 1 My faith looks up to Thee, Thou Lamb of Calvary, Savior divine; Now hear me while I pray, Take all my guilt away, O let me from this day be wholly Thine. Verse 2 May Thy rich grace impart, strength to my fainting heart, my zeal inspire; As thou hast died for me, O may my love to Thee, pure warm and changeless be, a living fire. Verse 3 While lifes dark maze I tread, and griefs around me spread, be Thou my guide; Bid darkness turn to day, wipe sorrows tears away, Nor let me ever stray, from thee aside. Verse 4 When ends lifes transient dream, when deaths cold sullen stream, Shall oer me roll; Blest Savior then, in love, fear and distrust remove, O bear me save above, a ransomed soul.

RUTH 2:15-18 (The Message)

15-16

When she got up to go back to work, Boaz ordered his servants: Let her glean where theres still plenty of grain on the groundmake it easy for her. Better yet, pull some of the good stuff out and leave it for her to glean. Give her special treatment.

Ruth gleaned in the field until evening. When she threshed out what she had gathered, she ended up with nearly a full sack of barley! She gathered up her gleanings, went back to town, and showed her mother-in-law the results of her days work; she also gave her the leftovers from her lunch.

I CHRONICLES 29:1-19 (The Message)

Then David the king addressed the congregation: My son Solomon was singled out and chosen by God to do this. But hes young and untested and the work is hugethis is not just a place for people to meet each other, but a house for God to meet us. Ive done my best to get everything together for building this house for my God, all the materials necessary: gold, silver, bronze, iron, lumber, precious and varicolored stones, and building stonesvast stockpiles. Furthermore, because my heart is in this, in addition to and beyond what I have gathered, Im turning over my personal fortune of gold and silver for making this place of worship for my God: 3,000 talents (about 113 tons) of goldall from Ophir, the bestand 7,000 talents (214 tons) of silver for covering the walls of the buildings, and for the gold and silver work by craftsmen and artisans.
1-5

And now, how about you? Who among you is ready and willing to join in the giving? 6-8Ready and willing, the heads of families, leaders of the tribes of Israel, commanders and captains in the army, stewards of the kings affairs, stepped forward and gave willingly. They gave 5,000 talents (188 tons) and 10,000 darics (185 pounds) of gold, 10,000 talents of silver (377 tons), 18,000 talents of bronze (679 tons), and 100,000 talents (3,775 tons) of iron. Anyone who had precious jewels put them in the treasury for the building of The Temple of God in the custody of Jehiel the Gershonite.

Unison Scriptures
9

And the people were full of a sense of celebrationall that giving! And all given willingly, freely! King David was exuberant. 10-13 David blessed God in full view of the entire congregation:

Blessed are you, God of Israel, our father from of old and forever. To you, O God, belong the greatness and the might, the glory, the victory, the majesty, the splendor; Yes! Everything in heaven, everything on earth; the kingdom all yours! Youve raised yourself high over all. Riches and glory come from you, youre ruler over all; You hold strength and power in the palm of your hand to build up and strengthen all. And here we are, O God, our God, giving thanks to you, praising your splendid Name. 14-19But mewho am I, and who are these my people, that we should presume to be giving something to you? Everything comes from you; all were doing is giving back what weve been given from your generous hand. As far as youre concerned, were homeless, shiftless wanderers like our ancestors, our lives mere shadows, hardly anything to us. God, our God, all these materialsthese piles of stuff for building a house of worship for you, honoring your Holy Nameit all came from you! It was all yours in the first place! I know, dear God, that you care nothing for the surfaceyou want us, our true selvesand so I have given from the heart, honestly and happily. And now see all these people doing the same, giving freely, willinglywhat a joy! O God, God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, keep this generous spirit alive forever in these people always, keep their hearts set firmly in you. And give my son Solomon an uncluttered and focused heart so that he can obey what you command, live by your directions and counsel, and carry through with building The Temple for which I have provided. 6:00 p.m.

GENESIS 14:17-20 (NIV)

After Abram returned from defeating Kedorlaomer and the kings allied with him, the king of Sodom came out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the Kings Valley). 18Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, 19and he blessed Abram, saying, Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. 20And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand. Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

Guest Musician
Trinity UCC welcomes Jamie Simond!
To hear Jamie Simond sing and to peruse his lyrical content is to partake of the sum total of all his lifes experiences. When listening to this refreshing, cutting edge crooner, you will hear imprints of his lifelong, favorite musical inspirations and influences: Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Daryl Coley and Reverend James Moore. His professional career began under the direction of Walt Whitman as a member of the Soul Children of Chicago. Soul Children of Chicago helped train and groom Jamies musical talents and allowed him to travel the world and perform with great artists, including: Stevie Wonder, Michael Crawford, Neal Diamond, Gladys Knight, New Kids on the Block, Shirley Caesar, Fred Hammond, and Marvin Sapp. He has extensively toured with Michael Crawford on the Phantom of the Opera Tour, and on Kim Burrells Tour of London. Jamie was a member of one of the hottest male groups in Chicago, Nuwave. Now a successful solo artist on the Gold Street Gospel label, you will find his voice on his own project, Collage. Jamie attributes his accomplishments to the total grace of God. When asked what life would look like for him if he were not doing music, he so adamantly remarked, I would, to this very day, still be trying to find out what I should be doing. Jamie is so entrenched into and a part of music that he could not imagine himself doing anything else. Music is his lifes blood.

To Do Justice
Statement from The Carter Center
The use of chemical weapons on August 21 near Damascus is a grave breach of international law that has rightfully outraged the world community. The United States and some of its European allies are calling for military strikes on Syria, but apparently without support from NATO or the Arab League. Predictably, Russia, Iran, and Syria are predicting dire consequences. At Syrias invitation, a U.N. investigation is already underway and will soon make its report. A punitive military response without a U.N. Security Council mandate or broad support from NATO and the Arab League would be illegal under international law and unlikely to alter the course of the war. It will only harden existing positions and postpone a sorely needed political process to put an end to the catastrophic violence. Instead, all should seek to leverage the consensus among the entire international community, including Russia and Iran, condemning the use of chemical weapons in Syria and bringing under U.N. oversight the countrys stockpile of such weapons. It is imperative to determine the facts of the attack and present them to the public. Those responsible for the use of chemical weapons must bear personal responsibility, said President Carter. The chemical attack should be a catalyst for redoubling efforts to convene a peace conference, to end hostilities, and urgently to find a political solution.

Raise the Roof

Then I gave them my report: Face it: were in a bad way here. Jerusalem is a wreck; its gates are burned up. Comelets build the wall of Jerusalem and not live with this disgrace any longer. . . .They said, Were with you. Lets get started. They rolled up their sleeves, ready for the good work. Nehemiah 2:17-18 The Message On Wednesday, August 28, 2013, Pastor Moss revealed the Raise the Roof Campaign and an exciting 5-year capital campaign that will replace a 20-year-old infrastructure in our church, principally our roof and HVAC systems. We voted that night to install a Green roof that will: o Return clean water to the environment o Generate energy o Insulate the building, saving on energy bills o Last up to 30 years o Provide skill development for workers o Allow for potential energy reimbursements Once completed, we expect a 25% reduction in energy costs. o Energy savings will be placed in a special fund to be available for future upgrades As of Sepember 4th, we have received pledges of over $1,458,000 from 233 of our members or families. Our goal to complete Gods work is $5 million.

How can I get involved?

Materials are available at tables in the Narthex and Atrium that you can pick up as you opt-in to receive communications on Raise the Roof Included in the materials is more detailed information on the Raise the Roof campaign, and a pledge card (and envelope) Complete the pledge card and return it to Trinity UCC Accounting Take advantage of Automatic Giving/ACS to be sure your pledges are consistently applied o There is no greener way to give!

RAISING LEADERS and DEVELOPING DISCIPLES

January Matthew 16:24 (NLT) Then Jesus said to his disciples, If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me." February Luke 4:18-19 (NIV) The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lords favor. March Luke 10:19 (NIV) I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. April Romans 10:1-2 (NLT) Dear brothers and sisters, the longing of my heart and my prayer to God is for the people of Israel to be saved. I know what enthusiasm they have for God, but it is misdirected zeal. May 1 Corinthians 13:8 (NIV) Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. June Romans 5:8 (NIV) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. July Philippians 4:13 (NLT) For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. August Jeremiah 1-7 (NLT) The Lord replied, Dont say, Im too young, for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you." September Isaiah 1:3 (NLT) Even an ox knows its owner, and a donkey recognizes its masters carebut Israel doesnt know its master. My people dont recognize my care for them. October Isaiah 40:29 (KJV) He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. November John 17:21 (KJV) That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. December Matthew 1:23 (KJV) Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
