Labor Day Drive Sober
campaign concludes
Law enforcement officers from
Cherry Hill concluded participa-
tion in the Labor Day Drive
Sober or Get Pulled Over cam-
paign.
From Aug. 16-Sept. 2, officers
conducted roving patrols looking
for motorists who may be driving
while intoxicated.
This effort resulted in four DWI
arrests, one arrest for an out-
standing criminal warrant and
the issuance of 66 motor vehicle
summonses.
Drive Sober or Get Pulled
Over is a national campaign de-
signed to raise awareness about
the dangers of drinking and driv-
ing through high-visibility en-
forcement and public education
during some of the busiest travel
times of the year, including the
Labor Day holiday period.
Law enforcement agencies par-
ticipating in the Drive Sober or
Get Pulled Over campaign offer
the following advice throughout
anytime of the year:
If you plan to drink, designate
a driver, someone who will not
drink alcohol, before going out.
Take mass transit, a taxi or
ask a sober friend to drive you
home.
Make arrangements to spend
the night where the activity is
being held
Report impaired drivers to
law enforcement. In New Jersey,
drivers may dial #77 to report a
drunk or aggressive driver.
Always buckle up, every ride,
regardless of your seating posi-
tion in the vehicle. Its your best
defense against an impaired driv-
er.
If youre intoxicated and
traveling on foot, the safest way to
get home is to take a cab or have a
sober friend or family member
drive you to your doorstep.

Fair Share Housing Center is appealing
to build affordable housing on the Wood-
crest Country Club property, which First
Montgomery Group, a Marlton-based real
estate consortium, purchased in May.
Over my dead body will this precious
property be destroyed in favor of high-den-
sity development, said Jeffrey Nash, Cam-
den County freeholder.
The housing center is attempting to
overturn the state Department of Environ-
mental Protections decision to exclude the
country club from the townships sewer
plan, using a 1993 injunction as legal lever-
age.
According to Nash, the county and Cher-
ry Hill Township worked together to pur-
chase the property, and despite not holding
the winning bid, the two are working to
maintain the property as a golf course or
open space.
According to court documents, Cherry
Hill is responsible for fulfilling its afford-
able housing obligation in light of the
scarcity of land in the township.
The document further states that if nu-
merous properties became available until
1999, including Woodcrest Country Club,
the township must accommodate an afford-
able housing development.
According to Fair Share Housing Center
lawyer Kevin Walsh, if the affordable hous-
ing obligation isnt met, it carries over
until development has occurred.
Fair Share Housing is chomping at the
bit to build low-income housing, Nash
said. Im not against [affordable housing].
What Im against is tearing up a piece of
historical property its an outrage.
Fair Share Housing has explored other
locations in the township to develop, but no
other properties are available, Walsh said.
According to Walsh, the housing is for
people who are almost always fully em-
ployed but cant afford the states expensive
living cost.
Twenty-five percent of New Jerseys
population qualifies for this type of hous-
ing, Walsh said. We want to give people
the opportunity to live in Cherry Hill that
may not otherwise be able to afford it.
The housing center is seeking to appeal

welve years have passed since
the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on
New York City and Washing-
ton, D.C.
Thats hard to believe.
Its hard to believe that it was 12
years ago that this country changed
forever.
Its hard to believe that it was 12
years ago that so many innocent lives
were lost.
Its hard to believe how much our
lives have changed in those 12 years
how heightened security at public
places, especially airports, is expected
and openly accepted; how a persons
privacy is not always private; how
farewell and welcome home celebra-
tions for servicemen and women seem
to be commonplace.
There are so many other examples
to mention of how our lives have
changed since that fateful day 12 years
ago.
Here we are, more than a decade
later, with 9/11 as a memory for all of
us who lived it, and a history lesson
for those who didnt.
Twelve years later, we should all be
proud of the way we are remembering
and honoring those who lost their
lives that day as well as their families,
and also the servicemen and women
and their families who so bravely
have volunteered to serve this country.
In addition to annual memorials put
on at the national level, local commu-
nities are playing a large part, too. Our
community, and others around us, are
setting up 9/11 memorials, obtaining
steel from the World Trade Center to
display and hosting 9/11 remem-
brances.
We should all be proud of ourselves
and our fellow citizens. But we should
not stop here just because we have
done well so far.
We should never forget what hap-
pened 12 years ago. We should always
respectfully pause and respect those
who were taken from us and those
who fight for our freedom.
And we should ensure that those
who werent alive 12 years ago, or were
too young to remember, are taught
about what happened that day, and
how it will continue to affect our lives
and theirs.
We will never forget.
We will never forget
Twelve years later, we continue to remember those lives lost on 9/11
