This guide is intended to get you started with a base configuration for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager
FastBack.

Product overview
The Tivoli® Storage Manager FastBack™ solution protects the application servers in your environment by providing block-based
continuous data protection and snapshot backups of critical data volumes. The Instant Restore module enables users to
immediately begin using data on a volume that is being restored while the restore operation is still in progress.

1 Step 1: Access your software and documentation

 4 Step 4: Install IBM Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack
To install Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack, complete the following steps:
1. Insert the Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack Product CD in the removable media drive. A Welcome and Introduction
page is displayed. Click Next to proceed.
2. The Software License Agreement page is displayed. Read the terms in the license agreement, and, if you agree with
the terms, select the I accept the terms of the license agreement radio button and click Next.
3. A page is displayed prompting you to specify the target directory where the FastBack Server is to be installed. Accept
the default location displayed in the Directory Name field, or type over it to specify the location, or click Browse to
navigate to the location. Click Next.
4. A page is displayed prompting you to select the program folder. Specify the location and click Next.
5. A page is displayed prompting you to select the Installation Type:
Backup Client
This installation process installs FastBack Client, FastBack Mount, and the Administrative Command Line.
Backup Server
This installation process installs FastBack Server, FastBack Mount, the graphical user interface, the disaster
recovery client, and documents.
Disaster Recovery Server
This installation process installs the Central Control Station, the disaster recovery server, FastBack Mount,
documents, the graphical user interface, and the Administrative Command Line.
Advanced
This type of installation allows you to select the product components that you want to install:
v FastBack Server: A server dedicated to running Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack.
v FastBack Manager: Install on all systems where you want to run the FastBack Server system administration
and management operations.
v Administrative Command Line: Install on the servers that require a command line interface to the FastBack
Server.
v FastBack Client: Install this software on the systems that need protection.
Product components that are not installed immediately can be installed at a later time.
Select the type of installation and click Next.
6. Complete the installation process for type of installation you choose. Detailed installation instructions for each type of
installation are provided in the Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack Installation and User’s Guide. See the section titled
