fter ve years of development, DeepFlex launched the rst commercial application of an unbonded

composite exible pipe solution in 2006. Based on a series of noteworthy design patents and proven materials technology, DeepFlexs Flexible Fiber Reinforced Pipe or FFRP

delivers industry-best performance in a complete range of challenging subsea applications and water depths. The result: Contractors, operators and oil companies worldwide are beginning to rethink exible pipe. Heres why.

DeepFlex Flexible Fiber Reinforced Pipe (FFRP )

Patented, Engineered Solutions for Subsea Applications

Lighter and stronger than steel
Weighs up to 60% less than traditional steel flexibles Enables use of a larger spectrum of vessels, resulting in dramatically lower installation costs Delivers higher tensile strength than steel for greater resistance to internal pressures and lowers top tension for any given water depth

Why composites? Ask API

Superior ow assurance at all temperatures

Smooth bore for superior flow rates Insulates fluids from outside temperature extremes naturally, reducing the potential for hydrate and wax formation inside the pipe

No corrosion, minimizes erosion

Not affected by saltwater and chemicals such as H2S and CO2 Eradicates eddy-induced scouring and other carcass-erosion issues evident in metallic flexibles

According to API 17B, the main potential for use of composite-based flexible pipes is in deep-water applications, where the mass reduction can be significant compared to steel-based pipes. In addition, there is potential for use of composites in high-pressure, sour-service applications. Composites offer a wide range of beneficial properties when compared to steel including: High strength-to-mass ratio Good fatigue resistance Good impact resistance and toughness Immunity to corrosion and degradation by most oilfield chemicals and saltwater High stiffness

Testing and qualication

Higher fatigue resistance

Use of composite materials eliminates fatigue problems associated with steel Proven ideal for highly dynamic shallow-water environments Outlasts steel in extreme applications

Repairable oshore

Enables offshore repair with no welding Saves substantial expense and lost production

DeepFlex FFRP has undergone collapse and crush testing at conditions that far exceed current industry operating parameters. FFRP meets or exceeds all API standards for metallic flexible pipe, eliminating corrosion and fatigue problems. DeepFlex is qualified through inspection, approval or certification by: American Bureau of Shipping API American Society for Testing and Materials Det Norske Veritas Various client specified and directed testing and qualification programs
