Our Vision: To be a vibrant, Spirit-filled people, participating in Gods work in the world. Our Mission: Loving God and loving neighbor, we witness to Christs saving grace, that others may believe and find life.

From Pastor ChrisWhy is there suffering in the world?

(Reflections from Pastor Chris and our young adult group, Youre Not Alone) All suffering is a result of the brokenness of creation that results from not knowing, not understanding, and opposing Gods intent for us. Suffering is often a result of our own decisions or the decisions of others that have not been inspired by God, but rather by our/their own selfinterest. God is not responsible for this suffering, but strongly opposes the voices and influences that turn us away from what God knows is right and just and good. Sometimes God allows suffering, not because God wants to punish us for sin, but because it is our nature to turn towards God when we are in need. Suffering can sometimes be Gods mercy in disguise, calling us back home, calling us back into relationship with the God who is life and love and who gives meaning and purpose to who we are, by reminding us whose we are. Jesus endured the greatest suffering anyone has ever known. Im not talking about the cross itself many suffered similar fates. I am talking about Jesus, who enters our humanity, becomes one of us, and on the cross takes on the weight and image of all our sin. The ugliness and darkness of all the ways we hurt and deceive God and destroy ourselves and each other, crushes Christ completely. God is so repulsed by the ugliness of what Jesus becomes on the cross, that God has to turn away. Jesus is utterly alone and forsaken by all, cut loose to suffer all of our suffering and sin, and to suffer our consequences. Why? To reveal a God who will go to hell and back to bring us all home, to pay for our injustices with the very death we deserve, so that we might be freed to become who God created us to truly be children of God. You see, Gods intent was and is still for us to live in the joy of love that is made perfect and complete, a return to the garden of Eden, to Gods original intent for us and for all creation. We see glimpses of that joy in this life, and we live in the hope of the new covenant in Christ offering an eternity in that joy. One more thing about suffering God will never waste it. The good that God can make, even out of the horrors of the cross, is resurrection and new life. We will get to the other side of our suffering for seasons in this life, and forever when we walk through the gate of death according to Gods design and time. In the meantime, our experiences empower us to reach out to others who are suffering with the hope, we ourselves, receive in Christ. Thanks be to God! Romans 12 12

Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer.

ELCA 25th Anniversary

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2013 under the theme, "Always being made new." What God is doing through us here at home and around the world is worth celebrating. As you embark in ministry during this anniversary year, take a look back at the people and events that have shaped us as a church while looking toward the future together anew.

In 2 Corinthians 5:17 Paul writes, "So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!" We are a church that is deeply rooted and always being made new. Our roots are in Scripture, tradition and the Lutheran Confessions, as well as in the vibrant communities and rich histories of our congregations. These roots are an ongoing source of nourishment, enabling us to be a church that is resilient, always reforming and guided by the Holy Spirit.
