Standard Illinois Standard 15.A.5a Explain the impact of various determinants of economic growth (e.g., investments in human/physical capital, research and development, technological change Illinois Standard 15.A.7a Understand how different economic systems operate in the exchange, production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. Understand how the global system of labor and production necessitates choices by consumers and producers. I would modify my discussion of outsourcing to focus on the costs and benefits from both perspectives. I would also push students to grapple with the inevitability of globalization and the necessity to outsource. Further, I would discuss what this means for the United States and why global competence isnt simply a nice liberal idea of lets all get along and know each other, it also a moral imperative and a national priority. Assessment India Unit: Write a paragraph describing the effects of outsourcing from the perspective of the United States and the perspective of India (where jobs were outsourced to).

Assess the role of wealth or property in the establishment of political authority in different governmental systems; monarchy, oligarchy, democracy.

I would modify my discussion of political systems to go beyond just WHAT they are. I would begin to discuss, what obstacles do these types of nations face in a globalized world.

China and Former Soviet Union Units: Develop questions designed to evaluate the costs and benefits of autocratic style governments. How do these political systems affect the person? Does access to wealth and property affect the success of the person/nation in a globalized world?

18.C.4b. Analyze major contemporary cultural exchanges as influenced by worldwide communications.

I would want students to demonstrate HOW worldwide communications have modified contemporary culture. I would want them to understand what this means for their future and the future of the globe. I would also want them to consider the ethical and educational imperatives that this type of communication demands.

I would change my outsourcing lesson to include a call to India. I would asks students to consider the costs and benefits of outsourcing. I also need to rethink a lot of the movies I watch as they present culture as static.
