The IBS (Industrialised Building Systems) Content Scoring System (IBS Score) is a systematic and structured assessment system that can be used to measure the usage of IBS in a consistent way. Higher IBS Score is a reflection of a more reduction of site labour, lower wastage, less site materials, cleaner environment, better quality, neater and safer construction site, faster project completion as well as lower total construction costs. i) ii) Discuss the five (5) attributes emphasized by the IBS Score. (10 marks) Explain how the enforcement of the "Minimum IBS Score" through Uniform Building BY-Laws will ensure the successful application of IBS in the Malaysian Construction Industry. With the aid of an illustration, describe the boundary reference system.

QUESTION 2 a) One of the common reasons construction practitioners give for not going precast is that it can be restrictive and does not allow them to be creative as one could be, as opposed to using cast in-situ. This assumption is not totally true. Discuss three (3) ways, how one could also be creative with the precast concrete system. (6 marks) b) As the overall stability of a precast structure depends largely on its connections, it is important to consider the effectiveness of these connections in transferring the forces between individual building elements and to the stabilizing cores and foundation. Special provisions of structural ties should be provided and detailed for structural integrity. Sketch the connection details between: i) Pile cap and precast R. C. column ii) Precast R.C. column and precast R.C. beam iii) Precast R.C. wall panels c) Briefly discuss the types and uses of precast facades. (10 marks)

Steel formworks and blockworks are also widely used in Malaysia. Steel formworks in particular, is very popular for repetitive type of constructions, on the other hand, the blockworks are useful for the construction of infill wall and also as load bearing wall for single and double-storey buildings. Discuss in detail, why steel formworks and blockworks are categorized as IBS. (10 marks)

b)

Malaysian has immensely benefited from its construction sector in the form of economic and social developments. However, there are current issues shadowing the industry which affect the performance of the industry's lack of luster performance. Discuss the factors affecting the industry performance and the need for the adoption of IBS. (10 marks)

c)

List down five (5) advantages of using precast concrete construction. (5 marks)

QUESTION 1 a) "Reducing construction and demolition waste (C&D) requires commitment and attention by all parties key to the building's construction. Opportunities for reducing construction and demolition waste focus on three (3) approaches". Discuss. (12 marks) b) Are the properties of concrete well enough known to enable safe and durable structures to be built or, is further research necessary? (6 marks) How does rain affect fresh concrete? QUESTION 2 a) A two-storey terrace shop lot, which is old and deteriorated, is to be Fully Demolished. The shop lot is linked to a Bank. With the aid of illustration suggest a method how the structure of the shop lot is to be demolished. Describe in detail the pre-demolition checklists that are to be considered. (15 marks) Assuming that concrete is made from the correct ingredients and in the correct proportions, what other requirement must be met to ensure a durable structure, that is, a structure with long life? (10 marks) QUESTION 3 a) Briefly describe why concrete with low water cement ratio have higher strength than one having high water cement ratio and how these phenomena affect the permeability and the durability of the resulting concrete. (15 marks) Describe objectives of concrete mix proportioning and the considerations governing the whole process. (10 marks)
