Conserve Energy
Carbon dioxide adds around 55% to greenhouse effect. 77% of the carbon dioxide increasing the greenhouse effect is produced by motor vehicles & by burning fossil fuel to provide energy to homes & industry.

Total Power Generation Capacity in India is 1,41,079.84 MW Each kWH/year produced means 1 Kg. of CO2

23% is due to deforestation which means there is less forest to absorb carbon dioxide

Conserve Energy
Energy scarce & expensive, especially for industry With use of more energy efficient technologies, we could cut the energy consumption upto 20%. Adoption of energy efficient technology is picking up pace, particularly in the energy intensive industry. One unit saved avoids 2.5 to 3 times of fresh capacity addition. Energy efficient technologies helps to protect global climate

Select Definitions Frost-free (FF) Refrigerator

A household refrigerator appliance in which all frozen food storage space is cooled by a frost-free system. Unfrozen food storage space may or may not be cooled by a frostfree system but all storage spaces in the appliance whether frozen or unfrozen are automatically defrosted with automatic disposal of water. In a frost-free system: Cooling is provided by forced air circulation. The system is automatically operated to prevent permanent formation of frost on all refrigerated surfaces and no ice or frost accumulates on stored food.

Select Definitions Direct Cool (DC) Refrigerator

These are the refrigerators with or without crisper, ice making or frozen food storage compartments and are NOT cooled by internal forced air circulation. Cooling is primarily obtained by natural convection only. However some products may have fan to avoid internal condensation but not to claim as frost free.

Select Definitions
Total Gross Volume is the sum of gross volumes for all compartments in a refrigerating appliance. Gross Volume - Measured volume enclosed within a compartment. While determining gross volume, internal fittings like shelves, removable partitions, containers, evaporator, thermostat & internal light housings are believed as not in place. Volume occupied by the barrier air ducts not considered. Total Storage Volume the sum of the storage volumes for all compartments in a refrigerating appliance. Storage Volume gross volume of a compartment minus the volumes of components & spaces recognized as being unusable for food storage. When the storage volume is determined, internal fittings like shelves, removable partitions, containers, evaporator, thermostat & internal housings are believed to be in place.

Select Definitions
Projected Annual Energy Consumption (PAEC) The estimated energy used by a single unit during one years use. This is calculated from Tested Energy Consumption (Et) (Units: kWh) PAEC = Et * (365/1000) kWh Tested Energy Consumption (Et) The value of energy consumption as determined by AS/NZS 4471.1:1997. This is calculated for a period of 24 hours. (Units: Wh) Comparative Energy Consumption (CEC) The nominal energy consumption of a model of refrigerating appliance. It is based on the PAEC average of the model. The CEC appears on the energy label. (Units: kWh/Year)

Energy Star Levels Calculation

Level of label depends on type of refrigerator (Frost-free or Direct Cool), storage volume of the refrigerator and the annual energy use as tested (as per BEE procedures). Storage volume of the refrigerator as per AS/NZS 4474.1:1997 Adjusted Volume Factor is considered : Adjusted Volume Factor (k) = (Test room Temp. Freezer Temp.)/ (Test room Temp. Fresh Food Temp.) FF : [32 (-15)] / (32 - 3) = 1.62 DC : [32 (-6)] / (32 - 3) = 1.31 Total Adjusted Volume is calculated based on a formula : Frost-Free Total Adjusted Volume (Vadj) = Fresh Food Vol + 1.62* Freezer Vol Direct Cool Total Adjusted Volume (Vadj) = Fresh Food Vol + 1.31* Freezer Vol

Energy Star Levels Calculation

Total tested energy consumption of a refrigerator
kWh = k * Vadj + c where, kWh = Annual Energy Use (kWh/year) k = Constant Multiplier (kWh/liter/year) Vadj = Adjusted Storage Volume (Liters) c = Constant Fixed Allowance (kWh) Star Rating Band (SRB) nf = knf * Vadj_tot_nf + cnf where, knf = Constant Multiplier (kWh/Litre/Year) Vadj_tot_nf = Total Adjusted Storage Volume for No Frost (Litre) cnf = Constant Fixed Allowance (kWh/Year)

AC Energy Labeling Scheme

Scope 1) This Standard specifies the energy labeling requirements for singlephase split and unitary air conditioners of the vapor compression type for household use up to a rated cooling capacity of 11 kW and that fall within the scope of IS1391 Part 1 & 2, being manufactured, imported, or sold in India. 2) This Standard shall be read in conjunction with IS1391 Part 1 and Part 2 with all amendments, as applicable Exclusions: 1. Air conditioners which are not included within the scope of IS 1391 Part 1 and 2, pending the development of a suitable test method. 2. Multi-split systems (i.e. those having more than one indoor unit with an independent control for each indoor unit) 3. Evaporative coolers or any other cooling systems that are not of the 5/8/2009 20 vapor compression type.
