Make-Believe
Values & Ideas
Exploring make-believe situations and pretending to be make-believe
characters are enjoyable ways to develop our creativity.
Make-believe also gives all of us the opportunity to role-play solutions
to real-life problems. It allows even the most withdrawn and self
concious to express themselves in a non-threatening environment.
Understanding make-believe is important to the development of our ability to
know the difference between things that can really happen and things
that cannot happen. There are a number of questions to consider when distinguishing
between what is make-believe and what is real:
- What are my favorite pretending games?
- Why do I enjoy pretending?
- How do make believe animals differ from real animals?
- Why is it fun to pretend that I am someone else?
- What important things can I learn from stories about make-believe characters?
- What important things can I learn from stories about real people?

Animals
Values & Ideas
There are many forms of animal life and each is deserving of our respect.
Many animals are like us in a number of ways - they live and breathe, eat food, live
in communities and care for their babies. They differ from us in many special way, though.
Consider the questions :What are some of the biggest animals? the smallest, the fastest? the most dangerous?
Which animals live in the wild?
Which are kept by people as pets?
Which are kept for other reasons?
Why do people enjoy having pets?
In what ways do animals help people?
What kinds of people look for animals?
Who like to kill animals? Why?

Look at the bright colors of these vegetables : red tomatoes, purple eggplant, yellow corn, red and
yellow peppers, and green zucchini.
Farmers grow a lot of vegetables. Other people grow vegetables right in their own back yards. You can
even grow some vegetables on your windowsill!
Corn is often eaten right on the cob. Lettuce tastes good in salads. Potatoes are eaten around the world.
Peas come in pods.
A carrot is a vegetable. People eat carrots raw or cooked in soups or stews. Horses and bunnies love
to eat carrots.
You cant beat the crunch of a carrot! Carrots not only taste good but they are also good for your eyes.
If you eat enough carrots, they can help you see better. Its around you.
We eat the orange part of the carrot. That is the long root of the plant. It grows under the ground.

Soil
Teacher talks and let the pupils think about the land :
What is land? Where is it?
What can we use soil from the land?
Can land be covered with tall mountain?
Where is some plants can grow?
Let the groups of pupils study the project about the land. Write mind mapping of the land as the example
above. Let them report in front of class after they have discovered outside the classroom, around the school
or in the community and the library :g.1 Group, what is land?
land is all around us,
It can be as big as a mountain or as small as your own backyard.
It can be a grassy meadow or a day desert.
But all land is made of the same things : rocks, sand and soil. Just look around outside!
g.2 Here are ways we use the land!
People and animals use land to build homes.
Farmer grow fruits and vegetables on the land.
Land is full of beautiful places to see and explore.
g.3 How about the Rocks?
Rocks are part of the land. They are made of minerals, which are found under the ground.
Rocks can be found all over the world.
They come in many shapes, sizes and colors.
People use rocks to build walls, houses and many other kinds of buildings. It is heavy and strong.
g.4 How about the sand?
Just like rockes, sand is a part of the land.
Sand is a part of the land.

g.9 What do we call the land that is covered with many trees? It is call a forest.
There are many kinds of forests around the world. A forest is filled with plants and animals.
Some kinds of forests grow in very cold parts of the world. Most of trees that grow in these forests
are pine or fir trees.
A rain forest is another kind of forest. They are usually found in parts of the world where the weather
is very warm.
We also use special plants from the rain forest to make medicines.
g.10 Discover meadows.
A meadow is land that is wide and open and covered with grass. Many insects, plants, and animals
make their homes in the meadow.
Some farmers grow hay in open meadows.
They use the hay to feed their cows, sheep and other animals.
g.11 Where is the desert?
Deserts are parts of the land that get very little rain. Most deserts are very dry and are covered with
sand. Eventhough there is little water here, there are plants and animals that can live in the desert.
Cactuses can store water inside their trunks. This help them stay alive. A cactus feels very prickly to
the touch. This keeps hungry animals from eating the cactus as a snack!
Teacher : Review with these questions :(1) Did you know that sand comes in different colors?
(Ans : Theres white sand, red, black and even green sand.)
(2) How many kinds of trees are there in the rain-forest?
(Ans : 100 different kinds of trees! They have more kinds of trees than any other forest in the world!)
(3) Did you know that rocks change shape?
(Ans : It takes a long time but water and wind can make rock into different shapes!)

The architecture of this palace is Spanish style, was adapted to suit the tropical climate in Thailand serve
the function of a summer palace. The feeling is more that of a large house than a formal palace.
His Majesty King Bhumibol (Rama IX) has graciously commanded to expand the area of the palace. He
ordered to build a mansion for HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and other buildings in the same style as
the original seventh reign buildings so as to preserve harmony among the buildings of the palace, also the
accommodation has been built for their entourage.
In front of the palace is a formal garden, with topiary work bushes and trees. The garden ornaments
include stone sculptures from Bali, nautical items, sundials, lamps and decorative rocks and boulders.
H.M. King Bhumibol and H.M. Queen Sirikit with their entourage move from Chittralada Villa,
Bangkok to stay at Klai Kangwon Palace during their doing the royal activities at Prachuap Kirikhan Province and

5. Read and Study about The Siamese Kingdom. Let the pupils (each
group) study write the story with pictures :
The Siamese Kingdom
Sukhothai In the first half of the 13th century, King Intradit joined
forces with several other groups. They overthew the Khmer overlord
at Sukhothai.
King Ramkhamhaeng devised the Thai alphabet and a system of
monarchy.
Ayutthaya It was founded on the Chao Phraya River by King
Ramathibodi in 1350. Over the next four centuries, it grew from a
small city into one of the great capitals of the region. The capital fell
to the Burmese in 1569. But less than two decades later regained
independence by King Naresuan. Ayutthaya is very famous among the
European Countries in the King Narai time.
Ayutthaya was attacked by the Burmese again. The city was burned
and looted by them and more then 30,000 Thai peoples were taken to
Burma, in 1782.
King Taksin was a military officer at that time. Within seven
months he managed to rally Thai forces, expel the Burmese from
Ayutthaya and establish a new capital at Thonburi.
The Chakri Dynasty In march 1782 a revolt broke out against
King Taksin. King Rama I founded the Chakri Dynastry. He moved
the capital to Bangkok.
King Rama IV He is remembered as one of the most far-sighted
rulers.
King Rama V or King Chulalongkorn. He is better known. He let
the slaves free, reorganized the government system. He built the first
railways and others. He was able to preserve his countrys independence.
From Rama VI to Modern Leaders. The first Thai ruler to be
educated abroad.
King Rama VI continued many reforms by his father. In 1913, a
law was passed Thai citizens to have surnames for the first time. The

: Ordinary fare in Sukhothai and early Ayutthaya was simple :
mainly fish, fresh or died. Mixed with rice and vegetables, a few
spices, and a salty sauce made of fish or shrimp. Others came
through increased contact with foreign cultures, China and India

others. Fruit always serves as the desert course, but sometimes
they serve for snacks between meals.

His Majestys Distance Learning Project of Thailand and A Look
Toward the Future
In His speech given to the audience, which included the Foundation Committee members on 19th January 1999 at Dusidalai Pavillion,

As far as the distance learning via satellite system is concerned, it is the project that has supported the activities of the
Rajaprajanugroh Foundation as well. This is, not least because when
our people are more educated and our children can better learn different academic subjects such as science and languages, they would be
able to live their lives well in fact, not only well but very well
indeed. Moreover, schools under the distance learning via satellite
scheme have been trying to incorporate the ethical and moral teachings into their curricula. As we have worriedly observed that our
youth today has seriously lacked the proper moral conduct and behavior, the result of which has been the widespread of drugs-related
problems and different forms of violence. Hence, the activities of the
distance learning via satellite project will significantly help improve
the quality of our people
To celebrate His Majesty the Kings 72nd Birthday Anniversary in
1999 and to honor Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra the
Princess Mother, who has been named a Great Personality by UNESCO
on the occasion of Her Birth Centenary in this millennium year, the
Foundation with a free-of-charge cooperation from the Royal Thai
Army, has completed the installment of the distance learning equipment in more than 2,700 schools with the purpose of giving an equal
quality of education to students all over the country. One result has
spoken clearly for itself that in the last two years of 1998 to 1999 a
good number of students who received education via satellite have
been able to pass the entrance examination to study in universities.
This suggests a certain efficiency of distance learning in eliminating
the sinequality of education.

Supong: Well, royal barge processions have moved along Thailands waterways
for centuries.
The Kings usually ride on one of the boats - the Suphanahong or
the Golden Swan - when they travel to the royal riverside temples to do
some important things, like offering yellow robes () to monks after
the end of Buddhist Lent.
Last month the Grand Royal Barge Procession appeared again on
June 12, 2006.
Richard: What was it for?
Supong: Thats a good question. The procession took place again on that day to
mark King Bhumibol Adulyadejs 60th anniversary accession to the throne.
He has been King since June 9, 1946, and he is the longest reigning King
in Thai and world history.
Richard: Wow! I can imagine how exciting it was to watch the procession.
Supong: Youre right! Thousands of people lined the banks of the Chao Phraya
River. The King and Queen and the royal guests the Kings and heads of
state from 25 nations watched the procession at the Royal Navy Institute
( - Ratchanawig Sapa). The procession started at about 4.45
pm. from the Wasukri Pier near the National Library to the Memorial
Bridge.
Richard: Did you join the celebration?
Supong: You bet! I went to see the procession at my uncles riverside house where
I had a very good view.
Richard: Lucky you! I missed the chance. Well, how many barges were there in
the procession? And How many men were there in the crew?
Supong: There were 52 barges and 2082 crewmen from the Royal Thai Navy.
Richard: Thats cool. And how long was the procession on the river?
Supong: I think it was over a kilometre long. The barges were gliding over the
river with a 45-minute boat song describing the Kings Sixty Years of
great works for his people.
Part 2 The Royal Barge Procession for the King
Periods 10 - 11
Richard: Hes really a great King.
Supong: Right. Besides the procession, there were 20,000 kratongs and 600 lanterns floating on the river on the night of June 12, 2006 to give the King
and the royal guests a gorgeous view before leaving. The Royal Thai

Navy and the private sector also lit up the sky over the Chao Phraya
River with spectacular fireworks.
Richard: Wow! Ive heard that people from all walks of life came on that day to
pay their respects and show gratitude to your beloved King. I wonder
why Thai people love the King so much?
Supong: Um, maybe its because he stays close to the people and listens to their
needs. He always tries hard to guide his people in how to live happily
through his royal projects and the Sufficient Economic Theory. His theory
is very modern and timeless because it focuses on human development.
For this reason, the United Nations SecretoryGeneral, Kofi Annan,
named him the worlds Development King. On 26 May 2006, Mr Annan
came to Klai Kungwol Palace to present the King with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Richard: Oh, really? Thats a great honour for the King and his people. He must
be the first person to win this kind of recognition.
Supong: Yes, he is. His ideas and projects help all Thai people. He is our wish and
we love him very much.
Richard: Lets follow the Kings Self-Sufficient Theory.
Supong: Good idea.
Richard and Supong (together) LONG LIVE THE KING!
Richard: Youre a good guide, Supong. Thanks a lot for the useful information.

Day 1 Cha-Am - Hua Hin by car
Welcome to Cha-Am - 40 kilometres north of Hua Hin. My name is Win Komson. Last month
I went to Cha-Am with my parents. We wanted to visit my grandparents. They have got a bungalow and
seafood restaurant on the Cha-Am beach.
When we got there, they welcomed us warmly with seafood for lunch at their restaurant. We
talked a lot about Cha-Am. I asked my grandpa to tell me more about Cha-Am and its people. He
explained to me that Cha-Am used to be a small fishing village. But now it is a popular beach among
the Thais and overseas visitors who love tasty seafood, white sand and comfortable bungalows or hotels
on the beach.
After that we walked along the beach. I could feel the fresh air and the breeze. I wanted to stay
overnight but my parents planned to stay at Hua Hin for two days. So we left for Hua Hin at six oclock
in the evening. We checked in a hotel near the beach.

Day 2 When in Hua Hin --After breakfast at the hotel, we went sightseeing around Hua Hin for an hour. There were a lot
of interesting things, and the weather was fresh and clean.
Next, we drove to Klai Kangwol School because we wanted to visit Klai Kangwol Palace. We
knew that the King was staying there for a change. So we couldnt visit the palace without asking
permission. Then we took a trip to the Royal Rain-Making Station in Boh Fai to study the Kings RainMaking Research and Development Project.
His Majesty realised the importance of having enough water for farming in the dry season. He
tried making artificial rain. Finally, the first rain-making was successful. If rained at Pak Chong, Nakorn

The Royal Rain-Making Project has offered artificial rain services to farmers across the country
since 1971. There has been more rain than that given by nature. Thanks to the officials of the Royal
Rain-Making Project, we learned how to make artificial rain. The King is really clever.
I felt hungry, so we stopped for lunch at a seaside food shop. The food was good. I liked it very
much.
In the afternoon we went to the seaside near the hotel. We walked along the white sandy beach
looking for beautiful seashells. Then mum and I went swimming. Dad, a golf lover, went to play golf
at a nice golf course. I enjoyed swimming very much. It was also good fun to see people swimming,
diving, skiing in the sea and hiking on the beach. Thats why I fell in love with Hua Hin, a wonderful
place for families and tourists.
We knew that King Bhumibol himself a saxophonist and composer, played jazz as hard as he
worked when he was young. We loved jazz too. So after dinner we went to the Hua Hin Jazz Festival
2006 to listen to jazz music at the Sofitel Beachfront Stage. There were two stages for six bands from
Europe, South America, and a group of Thai jazz musicians. Both stages were on the beach in front of
the Sofitel Central Hotel and the Hilton Hua Hin Hotel. We loved to join both shows, but we had very
short time in Hua Hin.
The jazz that evening was great. And I will never forget it.

Day 3 When in Hua Hin --After breakfast at the hotel, we took a walk to the beach to get fresh air. Then we drove to a new Phu
Fah store in Hua Hin. We were lucky to be there while Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn was signing her painting
- a blue elephant holding a bunch of flowers - during the opening of the store. The shop was founded under her
project to help people in rural areas earn a living. We also bought some handicrafts at the Phu Fah.
Next, we visited the Khomapat store. My mum wanted to buy some materials for clothing and bags. Dad
and I wanted two shirts each.
In the afternoon we went shopping at Hua Hin Market Village, a large shopping centre where tourists
could eat good food at restaurants and see movies too. Mum enjoyed shopping a lot.
Our wonderful trip to Hua Hin ended so soon. I didnt feel like leaving Hua Hin!

Chiang Mai province of northern Thailand is where I spend a lot of my time doing mountain biking. One
of my favorite riding areas falls to a lovely national park of Doi Suthep-Pui-Mae Sa. The park is located to the
west and northwest of the old city of Chiang Mai.
I myself is fond of bicycling in the country-sides and widerness, especially in high mountain sides of the
north.
Cycling is one of the best ways when it comes to exercise. Your mind and body feel the freedom of
being outdoor traveling by own power. You may wish to new played seeing new things all the time. When riding
especially, slowly up hill your mind would react and concentrate to fully utilize your internal energy. Therefore,
it is good to your entire body systems.
Riding can truely bring much pleasure as well as great feelings of being outdoor enjoying travel-learning
and closely exploring our beautiful world
