Australia has entered the most serious crisis after more than two centuries years of White settlement. This great nation is on the brink of the worst trials imaginable. Utter destruction is on the way, terrors worse than anything thought possible. Believe it or not, Australia is being set up for the most horrible stresses which may come upon any nation - cruel Asiatic invasion and slave labour camps. It will come soon! Very likely much sooner than any of us may realise.

Historical Background to Australia

Prior to examining what the Bible and in particular the book of Ezekiel predicts for Australia, we need to overview the background to this great nation. The Australian continent was first occupied after the flood of Noah by the intriguing Aboriginal peoples. These amazing people are descended from Ham (a future article may detail their origin) unlike the current majority of Australians who descend, in the main, from the House of Israel as is proven in the following works:

Australia's genesis is rather unique. This great nation began as a penal colony when the first fleet arrived under Captain Arthur Phillip on 18 January 1788. The colony itself was established at Sydney Cove on 26 January which is commemorated as Australia Day - a national holiday. Soon a way was found to explore the inland areas. New settlements were established along the coast, in Tasmania, Western Australia (1829), South Australia (1836), Victoria (1851) and Queensland (1859). With the discovery of gold in 1851, an enormous influx of migrants occurred with the ensuing increase in investment, capital and business opportunities and the prosperity of the various states on the continent began to boom. For instance, Australia possesses some of the wealthiest deposits of mineral resources in the world. This continent has come a long way over the past 200 years a relatively bare continent with few mountains, rivers and lakes, it is approximately 85% desert and semi-desert and can only hold some 20-25 millions whilst maintaining a high standard of living. Yet is a fair country, with much beauty and variety, hence the national

anthem Advance Australia Fair, originally composed as an ode to the British Empire (the anthem may be found at the end of this article). On 1 January 1901, the six British colonies federated to become the Commonwealth of Australia. The initial governments of the young nation were very populist and patriotic, basing many of their decisions on Biblical principles: protectionist tariffs with a slant toward the mother country, Great Britain; court arbitration in industrial disputes and the setting of minimum wages; old age pensions; a strong defence; and strong family values. In contrast, our leaders today are bent on integration with Asia; are biased against Britain; are fast moving away from the hard fought for advances won by the Australian workers; and have very little time for or interest in moral or family values. A country of diversity: modern cities ancient deserts

Our political, religious, media and academic leaders are leading us astray and far away from God (Is 3:12; 9:16; 10:1). So what of the future? How will God deal with such a wicked, sinning nation? Let us peek into the Word of God and understand what the prophecies predict will soon occur to Australia.

Australia's Punishment Prophesied!

God Almighty has bestowed wonderful blessings upon the occupants of this great continent. Such spaciousness, mineral wealth, unique fauna and flora, agricultural abundance, wonderful cities and riches which are the envy of the peoples of the region. Yet you Australians are warned by the God of the Bible that you have behaved like spoilt brats! You, and the other Anglo-Saxon-Keltic-Nordic nations have behaved dishonourably toward your God. This wonderful Being has showered upon you blessings unknown to the gentiles. But what have you done with it?

Have you been a wonderful light to the nations or an example of rebelliousness and ingratitude? Have you shown the Asian and Pacific nations the ways of God, your Creator, or engaged in vileness after vileness? Are your cities not riddled with violence; is not pornography a plague upon your minds; are not you intermarrying with foreign races which God forbade; is not liberal divorce and remarriage, adultery, fornication and the promotion of homosexuality rampant; and do you not oppress the needy and poor? Why do you permit euthanasia, surrogacy, radical feminism? And why have you neglected to obey the Ten Commandments and the Sabbath sign? If you realise your sins against God, then now is the time to repent! We want every one of you to know what will happen to you, your family, your neighbourhood and your nation. Nothing could be more important or urgent in your life. In a blistering warning to the peoples of English descent (and by extension to all Israelites), Hosea prophesied:
Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood. {blood: Heb. bloods} Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away. Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that strive with the priest. Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother. {destroy: Heb. cut off} My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. {destroyed: Heb. cut off} As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame ... Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart. My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone. Their drink is sour: they have committed whoredom continually: her rulers with shame do love, Give ye. {sour: Heb. gone} {rulers: Heb. shields} (Hos 4:1-7, 11-12, 17-18)

Does this not sound familiar? Is this not an apt description of Australia today?

Ezekiel's Warning Message to Australia

Bible prophecy warns that the modern nations of Israel are headed for captivity. The Old Testament prophet, Ezekiel, thundered some piercing warnings to Israel as we shall shortly see (this is sometimes known as Ezekiel's Message or the Captivity Doctrine). Nations to our north will invade this continent and bring our peoples to their knees. One third of White Australians will die from disease and famine; one third will die directly because of war; and the remaining one third will go into captivity: "and a third part ... shall scatter in the wind; and I will draw out a sword after them" (Ezek 5:2). Massacre and butchery unimaginable will be wreaked upon this nation. Which are the gentile nations which will be involved with the coming terrible invasion of Australia (and probably New Zealand)? Prophecy indicates the strong probability that the various invading nations will partition the spoils of Israel among themselves. One in Joel 3:2b speaks of the scattering of Israel and the parting or dividing of Israel amongst her enemies (Amos 7:17b; Micah 2:4; Dan 11:39 seem to tell a similar tale). So every indication is that several nations will be involved in this bloody and bitter exercise. Isaiah predicts that the captives of Israel will be scattered among many nations, including Cush (Is 11:11) - the peoples residing in southern India; and also the eastern branch of Tarshish (Is 60:9; 66:19) - Japan, the land of the rising sun. No doubt Indonesia and China will also be involved. Australia itself may be divided up by secret agreement between India, China, Japan and Indonesia. For instance, Japan may take the Eastern States; Indonesia and China the Northern Territory and South Australia; and India Western Australia. (Similarly, Russia may have Alaska returned to her by Europe if she keeps out of the coming world crisis; the Caribbean's may be given the South-east USA; Mexico the SouthWest; Japan may take Hawaii and Europe will divide up the rest of the North American continent.) The prophet Isaiah also proclaims scattered Israelites from "beyond the rivers of Cush" (Zeph 3:10) will be liberated after a period of captivity. Here the Aramaic renders Cush as 'Hodu' which means India in the Hebrew. So this indicates that some Israelites will be held captive in India. But not India alone.

Taken Captive by the Land of the Rising Sun!

According to the Shinto traditions, the Japanese were a race apart, the Yamato people - not just a chosen people, but the actual seed of the gods and as such formed the "root of the world". This powerful belief in their uniqueness was combined with garnering knowledge and developing it. As such, these aforementioned characteristics, traditionalism, conservatism combined with progressiveness and cosmopolitanism, together with living on a large island, produced some likeness to the

British. Indeed, in 1913, Baron Makino, minister of agriculture and commerce observed: "Our ambition is to be to the East what Great Britain is to the West."

Will this flag fly over Australia some day soon?

Within their core social attitudes and social beliefs, lay the groundwork and disposition toward trade, commerce and industry. This together with strong Shinto traditionalism, produced an Asiatic equivalent to the conservative British and their commercial imperial hegemony. But the Japanese economic culture in particular emphasised that one should be tied to economic households with innate service to customers and employees, maintaining a durable and lasting system to produce wealth and job satisfaction. This economic house has to be maintained and expanded for the benefit of all any condition. This core value was one of the founding reasons for the Japanese economic power. It no doubt has had and will have its ups and downs, but it seems to be durable enough to survive and revive after a decade in the doldrums and huge public debt. Japan was a hermitic medieval kingdom until 1853 after which it learned from the mistakes of its neighbours and technology of the West to establish itself as the dominant Asian power by 1895 when it defeated the forces of the Chinese Empire and in 1905 it was able to even destroy Russian forces in Manchuria. It had now become a junior rank power, but wanted more as part of a 100 year war strategy dating back to 1842 when the British humiliated the Chinese in the Opium War. They believed that they had divine right to rule for they were a superior race, the Whites of Asia, defined in their blood. Biologists began to produce studies on the supposed apei-sh features of other nations and noting their more refined features, milder body odour and so forth. The Emperor was worshipped as the descendant of the sun goddess and became the divine icon of the race. He was greeted with two upheld and extended arms (the Nazis held one arm up) with shouts of Banzai (= "May you live 10,000 years") (the Nazis cried "Sieg und Heil" = 'Victory and Salvation" or "Heil Hitler" = "Salvation is from Hitler). The Japanese Imperial Flag was white with a red sun in the centre with rays extending outward to each corner, symbolising that they dwell at the rising of the sun, and will reach out to each corner of the globe (the Nazi flag was an inversion of this with a white circle in the centre and red on the outer. The pagan swastika sat in the centre of the white circle, symbolising the sun wheel).

From this evolved their entry into World War Two. Shortly after the Pearl Harbour bombings, they should have returned to finish the job, but left enough for America to rebuild. Their propaganda at the time pronounced that the empire's 100 million people and national cohesiveness would achieve glory - "100 million hearts beating as one" or "100 million people as one bullet" and "100 million advancing like a ball of fire". Amongst their greatest strategic mistakes was not to invade Russia, which allowed the Russians to withdraw troops from the East and utilise them against the German aggressors. In addition, instead of invading Australia, they sought to invade Burma and even entered India before being driven back.1

After finalising this section I came across an interesting article by Joseph Huang on "Japan's Destiny - Yet to be Fulfilled". Following is an extract from it: "The blueprint in the Tanaka Memorial is not limited to China and East Asia. Its gigantic ambition is not restricted to East Asia, but to include India, South-east Asia and Central Asia -- even far-distant Europe is not excluded from its plot. It says, "Having all China's resources at our disposition, we will proceed to conquer India, the Archipelago, the Islands of the South Seas, Asia Minor, Central Asia and even Europe itself" (Japan's Kampf, p.148). The Tanaka Memorial recognizes that to venture further, Japan will inevitably clash with the paramount power, the United States. "But in carrying out this policy we have to face the U.S., which has been turned against us by China's policy of fighting poison with poison. In the future, if we want to control China, we must first crush the U.S., just as in the past we had to fight in the Russo-Japanese War" (ibid.). " The unabridged copy of the Tanaka Memorial has never been found, and therefore the full extent of their aim and strategies remain hidden. A search among Japanese archives at the end of the Pacific War by Japanese and Americans also failed to turn up evidence of the document. It was reported that all 'sensitive' palace papers, government files and other documents had either been burnt during the war or were destroyed by Japanese authorities between the surrender and the arrival of the Occupation Forces. When the time came for prosecutors of Japanese war criminals to give evidence, they found almost no document to work on. The global conquest would inevitably include Australia, lying as an extension of South-east Asia. In a book written by Henry P. Frei, he demonstrates that the Japanese Navy was in favour of an invasion of Australia while the Army hesitated immediately after the fall of South-east Asian countries: "Whether or not to capture Australia became a serious topic for discussion whenever its main proponent, the [Japanese] Navy General Staff convened with Combined Fleet and the Army to decide the options of war aims for the next stage in 1942" (Japan's Southward Advance and Australia, 1991, p.161). It was understandable that the Japanese Navy's main worry was Australia. They did not want it to become a crucial gateway for the United States and its allies to position their planes, ships, and soldiers for a retaliation. The Navy Captain Miwa Yoshitake wrote on January 6, 1942, "We must think quickly about invading Australia . . the United States is now in the middle of reinforcing Australia, Fiji, and Samoa" (ibid., p.162). The Japanese recognized that Australia had to be separated from the United States, a troublesome source of military reserves -"The chief of the Navy General Staffs Planning Section and chief champion of the Australia invasion idea, Captain Tomioka Sadatoshi, deeply feared such a disadvantageous development.

Japan the Tarshish of the East

We are told in Isaiah that the ships of Tarshish would be the first to bring the Israelites to the Holy Land during the future second Exodus (Isaiah 60:9). Why first? Because she would have repented of her evil toward the House of Israel when she would have taken Israel into captivity. We are being warned regularly by secular prophets in the media.2 One such 'prophet' who has attempted to warn the Anglo-Saxon powers is Daniel Burstein, author of the book Yen! The Threat of Japan's Financial Empire which I thoroughly recommend to the reader. Will history repeat itself once again? Will Japan return "back to the future"? Will the Japanese take over the leadership of certain Asian nations in the event of America withdrawing from the region and leaving behind a political and military vacuum? And will Japan then form a new Axis with a German-led United Europe? Only time can tell. We now know with certainty that in World War Two their plans were to extend their empire through India to Iran; to Madagascar3 off the shores of Africa; the whole of Australia (with the exception of Tasmania which they were to leave for German settlement4); and the western sea-board of Canada, the United States and Mexico.5 The proofs for the Japanese descent from the eastern branch of Tarshish is discussed in the book In Search of the Origin of Nations. In February 1941, Japans expansionist policy was publicly elaborated upon by her Foreign Minister, Matsuoka, who stated that "the white race must cede Oceania to the Asiatics". The following year, 1942, a top Japanese military spokesman revealed that they would eventually claim the divine right to control the entire world:
He fervently believed that Australia must not become a strategic springboard for United States planes, ships, and soldiers gathering for a counter-offensive ... The war had perfectly shown how little air power meant without the development of air bases. If, however, the United States built up air power on the Australian continent, while at the same time applying pressure from the north, Japan could not possibly win. Australia, therefore, had either to be knocked out quickly, or cut off from America" (ibid.). While the Navy was pressing for expansion, the Army hesitated. Major-General Tanaka Shin'ichi warned, "Naval plans to invade Australia do not quickly end the Pacific War, but make it the center of the next stage and overextend the limits of our offensive power in the Pacific" ( ibid., p.163). They finally agreed that Australia should be isolated rather than invaded. It was the limitations of the army that saved Australia. Despite that, Port Darwin experienced a surprise attack and was destroyed on February 19, 1942. On the political front, pressure was applied on Australia to succumb or to be in line with the Japanese Imperialism -"[Japan's] Prime Minister Tojo Hedeki continued to support pressuring Australia into submission by cutting her communication lines to the United States. In a Diet oration on 21 January he proclaimed decisive defeat for Australia if she continued to fly the flag of the enemy And in a further appeal to the leaders of Australia at an extraordinary session of the Diet on 28 May, Tojo repeated his threatening lure that it was not too late to make the right decision and toe the line with the Japanese Empire" (ibid., p.172). The Japanese quest for global conquest is clear. The aim of the Imperial realm is to embrace the whole world under the universe. "We will carry the war to London and Washington, and we will destroy all traces of European culture, and we will make our Nipponese spirit dominate the world".6

Most people today are unaware that the Japanese had their own Mein Kampf in World War Two. It was known as the Tanaka Memorial. This work revealed that a terrible plan had been developed for almost four hundred years. It emerged from a document dated 18th of May 1592. Japan's great hero, Hideyoshi, set forth in this document a plan for world domination and for establishing the Mikado Plan to rule the world! On 25th July 1941, Baron Tanaka, Premier, presented the Tanaka Memorial as a blueprint for world empire under the Mikado which led to the attack on Pearl Harbour. In fact, it was their religious belief that the Mikado is directly descended from the Mother of Heaven. As he was thus the Son of Heaven, the Emperor had to be world emperor and worshipped as very God! (how similar to the Western false prophet described in II Thessalonians 2:1-5)

General Tomoyuri Yamashita, Japanese Supreme Commander in Malaya, in an interview prior to his execution as a war criminal in the Philippines in 1946, outlined what were his recommendations for a Japanese invasion of Australia. His desire was to push on to Australia after the fall of Singapore but Japanese Prime Minister Tojo opted instead for Burma and India to appease Hitler. He said that he planned to make dummy landings to draw away the "pitifully small number of Australian troops" followed by landings on either side of the major cities of Australia and cut them off. With only Sydney and Brisbane occupied, it would have been simple to subdue the rest of Australia. He felt that the actual conquest of all of Australia was not feasible as

it was too large; in addition supply lines would have been extremely difficult to maintain.7 He told the interviewers that the Japanese government machinery for ruling Australia was prepared and several diplomats who had previously represented Japan in Australia had been briefed and were standing by to follow the Japanese armies into the country to rule it with an iron fist. Documents discovered in military archives in 1993 uncovered a Japanese plot to attack Sydney and Melbourne with bubonic plague, the black death. In its Harbin biological warfare centre in Manchuria, the infamous Imperial Army Unit 731 successfully bred plague bacteria (in addition to cholera, typhoid, anthrax etc) and deliberately infected 3,000 Chinese, Korean and Mongolian civilians with the diseases from which they died horrible deaths. Plague-infected fleas were dropped over Changde in Hunan Province and elsewhere, resulting in an epidemic which killed several hundred in a few days. As the war was drawing to an end, they planned to send plagues into Samoa, Guam and the Philippines as well as Dutch Harbour in Alaska. Journal records show that Unit 731 was ordered to ensure that the bacteria could be taken by ship or submarine to Sydney, Melbourne and Hawaii and released to kill hundreds of thousands.8 It would not take much for combined forces say from Japan, India and Indonesia to take Australia and to divide the country up between themselves. Indeed, it has been said that Japan has long looked upon Australia as a prime piece of real estate, with only historical factors preventing its conquest and colonisation of the continent centuries ago. At the Battle of Sekigahara (20 October 1600AD), one of the most significant wars in Japanese history, Ieyasu Tokugawa destroyed the opposition and became the Shogun three years later. He united the country and it closed up to the outside world, taking on the characteristics of a hermit: Of this behaviour, historian Malcolm Kennedy wrote:
"Had she not remained cut off from the outside world during the vitally important years when the colonial empires of the Western Powers were taking shape, Australia, New Zealand, Malaya, and other territories in the Pacific area might well have fallen into her hands rather than into those of others".9

Singapore). Perhaps there still lurks a secret desire for lebensraum in the largely empty land "Down Under".

Unparalleled Horrors Await Australia

This Work of the Church of God endeavours to fulfil the commission given to Ezekiel, to warn of coming invasion, captivity and slave labour camps (Ezek 3:17; 33:1-7). Like Ezekiel, this Work is one which watches world events as they fulfil prophecy, to warn the peoples of 20th century House of Israel that military invasion and devastation is imminent. Yet we also proclaim God's mercy to Israel - the Good News of the World Tomorrow and the Messiah's deliverance of our peoples. Soon there will be peace on earth (Is 2:1-4) and the peoples of Israel will learn to rule under the Messiah with justice, righteousness, and for the good of all nations, tongues and peoples. But in the meantime, will we heed the urgent warnings of Ezekiel to Australia and escape the approaching Great Tribulation (Rev 3:10; 12:14). Or will we submit to the most terrible and painful fate ever to happen to any people? Advance Australia Fair toward repentance or destruction? THE CHOICE IS YOURS!

Question on "The Land of Sinim" (Isaiah 49:12) and Australia Hi Yair, I have been reading your book called "Origin" and being born in Australia was very interested in page 82 which claims that Sinim mentioned in Isaiah 49:12 is referring to Australia. I agree that the term Australia means Land of the South. However you mention that, "The Egyptians referred to the southernmost known area of land as sin-wur" and that "This corresponds to the Land of Sinim meaning Australia". I was just wondering if it would be possible to find out from what source you derived this information from? Daniel Shalom, We identify Australia with the Land of Sinim from which a portion of the Lost Ten Tribes will return (Isaiah 49:8) because: a. Sinim was understood to be the " South Land" and the name " Australia" means the " South Land". b. Sinim was translated as Australia. c. The Egyptians used a term ("sin-wur") similar to "sinim" for the southernmost land known to them and they were aware of Australia. d. The Torah Codes identify Sinim with Australia. e. It fits the general pattern of Brit-Am evidence that identifies the Lost Ten Tribes with Western Peoples and Joseph especially with the English-Speaking People who indeed are concentrated in the North and West (from the Land of Israel) as Isaiah says and in Australia which Isaiah appears to call the " Land of Sinim". "Atlantis of the North", UK, 1979, p.94 Spanuth (despite the "esoteric" nature and title of his work) usually used reliable sources. He said that "sin-wur" was the southernmost place known to Ancient Egypt. We believe that the Ancient Egyptians had knowledge of Australia and so we combined the two pieces of information in light of the fact that Australia is referred to as "Sinim" for additional reasons. Yair Davidy applied the Bible Codes system to "Sinim". Shmuel Treister (of Tsafat in Israel) did the same but much more thoroughly. The results conclusively and repeatedly link Australia with Joseph, the Lost Ten Tribes, and the Land of Sinim. The relevant articles were published in our magazine (a precursor of our current publication "Brit-Am Truth") "Tribesman" issue no. 3. The articles will be republished (with illustrations) and either posted to our website or in a coming issue of our magazine or both. In addition to the above, Craig White, in his monumental, highly-recommended work, "In Search of ... the Origin of Nations", shows how the Australian Aborigines are originated in Ancient Egypt. He quotes physical anthropologists who say that the Australian Aborigines left a substratum in southern Arabia (Oman and Yemen), offshoots amongst the Veddoid natives in India, may have intermixed with the Ainu of Japan, and a few South American tribes, and reached Australia. Links between the Aborigines and Ancient Egypt include: the boomerang, words, names of idols, belief in reincarnation, raised scars instead of tattoos, deprivation of front teeth, wearing of human hands around the neck, mummification, and so on. Also in Australia there exists a wild dog known as the dingo. The dingo is believed to have arrived in Australia together with the aborigines and to originally have been domesticated. The dingo is similar in type to a breed of dog native to the Middle East. [Keep that little quote in mind!] In other words, it wasn't just some clown in a big canoe, island-hopping. The primordial Aussies had thus come originally not from Asia, their next door neighbour, but from Africa? Yet Again: Original inhabitants of Terra del Fuego in southern Argentina may be related to Australian aborigines. The mtDNA (transmitted by the female) of a sizeable proportion of Australia aborigines is similar to groups in Africa to the south of Egypt, i.e. some contact must have existed. The aborigines came from Egypt or had been dominated by Egypt and they moved to Australia possibly via Asia. The Egyptians were aware of Australia and this taken together with other evidence justifies our identification of the Biblical term "Sinim" with Australia.

Britain, North America, and Australia Isaiah says (49:8) that the exiled of Israel will be preserved and become a covenant of people (in Hebrew 'a Brit-Am'), who will establish the world and inherit wasted heritages. They will use released prisoners to colonize these heritages (49:9), as the British did at first in North America and Australia. They shall return from the north and from the west, and from the land of Sinim. That this passage is referring to the Lost Ten Tribes is confirmed by the Talmud and midrashim. The Midrash Speaks of Isaiah and the Ten Tribes The Rabbis (Numbers Rabah 1;6, Eichah Rabah 2;9, Jerusalemi Sanhedrin ch.17, L.6,29) agreed that Isaiah 49 was referring to the Lost Ten Tribes. They quoted Isaiah 40 and said that there were three major areas to which the Lost Ten Tribes went: One to beyond the Sambation River, one to Daphneh of Antiochia, and one to where the Clouds came down and covered them. Sinim is interpreted to mean Land of the South in the Aramaic Translation. Craig White in his book (In Search of The Origin of Nations) has an interesting chapter discussing the possibility that the Australian Aborigines originally came from Egypt and then branched out some going to South America, others to India (the Veddic peoples) and Australia. [White's suggestions that some aborigines went to South America has just been confirmed by archaeological finds of an ancient population with skeletons similar to those of the Australian aborigines in Baju Province, Mexico.] At all events one of the most famous and most admired (in Australia) Australian Prime Ministers was Billy Hughes who believed that British-related peoples descended from the Ten Tribes of Israel. Australian and New Zealand Troops liberated the Holy Land in the First World War. Another sign concerning the Lost Ten Tribes is that they should be at the ends of the earth (see Biblical Proofs: no.1). Australia and New Zealand are about as much at the end of the earth (when considered with the Land of Israel as the center) as you can get. Australian and New Zealand also fulfill most of the other criteria and proofs we adduce.

Hebrews 11:13-16 29th August 2004 We are under attack from secular fundamentalists, atheistic humanists, and intolerant pluralists, who hate the idea of Australias Christian heritage. They seek as journalists, broadcasters, politicians and academics to remove every trace of Christian heritage in our land. Few Christians know anything of this nations rich Christian heritage and the fact that it was dedicated to the Lord. They do not know that many of our early explorers, pioneers and politicians were men and women of God. It is largely unknown that Captain James Cook, Captain Charles Sturt, Edward John Eyre, Flynn of the Inland and many others were committed Christians. Fewer still are aware that one of the men who co-authored our nations constitution was Prime Minister Alfred Deakin, a man who prayed and was used of God in the founding of this nation. Many of this nations founding fathers were Christians. However this does not mean that they were without fault, as many of todays critics are eager to point out. We do not mean they were sinless. As the Bible shows, God uses people, despite their shortcomings and faults. Many of this nations early explorers, leaders and politicians did have shortcomings. They did mess up, like all men. However, most of them had a heart towards God and a will to obey Him. As Iain H Murray writes: Australian Christian Life from 1788 Banner 1988 Christian history is a history of surprises. From such unpromising beginnings a heroic form of resolute, self sacrificing yet singing Christianity began to make its way. From among soldiers, convicts, settlers, and Aborigines also, churches came into existence which powerfully affected the greater part of the entire population. 1. THE ORIGINS OF THE NAME "AUSTRALIA." From 150 AD when Ptolemy showed a south land on his maps, the Latin word australis was used for regions south of the equator. In 1569 the great geographer Gerhardus Mercator used continens australis to refer to the supposed land south of Asia. In 1606 Pedro Fernandez de Quiros discovered Vanuatu, and, believing that the island on which he landed was part of the great southern continent, named it Australia del Espiritu Santo. In his memorial published in 1610, the name Australia incognita appeared on the title page and in 1612 the Dutch cartographer Hessel Gerritsz published a book containing a Dutch translation of de Quiross Memorial which rendered it as Australia Incognita; the earliest printed use of the word Australia. In literature the words Australia, began to be used from 1676, almost a century before Captain James Cook. In the account (1773) of James Cooks voyage in HMS Endeavour, reference was made to de Quiross discovery, but Cook believed this land to lie to the north east of his discovery, which he called New South Wales. When Arthur Phillip received his commission as Governor in 1786 his jurisdiction was confined to the territory of New South Wales. Anything West of 135 degrees E. was called New Holland parts of which had been mapped by the Dutch. It was believed that an inland sea separated the eastern and western sides of the continent. Matthew Flinders, in his Voyage to Terra Australis (1814), wrote Had I permitted myself any innovation upon the original term Terra Australis, it would have been to convert it into Australia. In April 1817, Governor

Macquarie used the word Australia officially in his correspondence, thereby giving viceregal approval. The early colonist and explorer, W.C. Wentworth in his Statistical Account (1824) advocated the use of the name Australia. Many books of the time indicate the word Australia had been accepted by the colonists. Generally there was an official reluctance to adopt the name in England, except by the Admiralty, the first governmental department to use the name officially in its publications. 2. THE MEANING OF THE NAME. A Dutch explorer, Willem Janez, is reported to be the first European to have set foot on Australian soil. In 1606, Janez sailed south from New Guinea in the Duyfken little dove. I have been on board the replica of this little dove. While searching for a southern route, Janez discovered Cape York Peninsula and charted 200 miles of the Australian coastline, without realising he had discovered a new continent. Discouraged by a shortage of supplies and the death of ten of his men in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Janez returned to Java without ever sighting the rich eastern coast. Like the dove that Noah let out of the Ark, the Duyfken caught glimpses of the land but did not find a permanent home. Australias time had not yet come. It is interesting that the dove is a symbol for the Holy Spirit. As the gentle dove hovered over the waters of Noahs day, the Holy Spirit brooded over the southern continent, named The Great Southland of the Holy Spirit by Captain Pedro Fernandez de Quiros in 1606. De Quiros became the first explorer to lay claim to Australia. He was also a man with a heart for God. Between the 14th and 15th centuries the Spaniards began sending expeditions into the South Pacific. Their purpose was to carry the Bible to these lands (as well as a quest for riches). This is borne out in a letter from a Spanish diplomat to King Phillip 111: That no time be lost in discovering that Australia region so far unknown, so these people may have knowledge of the Gospel and be brought into Spiritual obedience. De Quiros gave this continent its name La Australia del Espiritu Santo or literally Great Southland of the Holy Spirit. No other nation has ever been blessed with the name Land of the Holy Spirit! One pre-Captain Cook map shows Australias fictional east coast . It was a line from Van Diemens Land to New Guinea including Espiritu Santo. The coastal note translates: I suppose that the land of Van Diemen can join with the land of the Holy Ghost but this is without proof. An Dutch inscription on what was proposed as the North Queensland coast says Land of the Holy Spirit discovered in 1606 by Fernandez de Quiros. Fernand De Quiros was a man of faith and great missionary zeal, being firmly convinced that the Lord had chosen him to discover and bring the Gospel to terra australis. From his youth he seems to have been caught up in the missionary enthusiasm of the ageHe was a gentle spirit, one of Gods chosen vessels bringing the gift of his holy faith. For Quiros, all men were the adopted children of GodHe began to believe that he had been singled out by God as the vessel through whom the inhabitants of terra australis would be received into the church, and that terra australis would be Australia del Espiritu Santo a land dedicated to the Holy Spirit. (Article on de Quiros in Enciclopedia Italiana (1949) The voyages of Pedro de Quiros vol 1, pp 1635). Sailing into the waters of the South Pacific and sighting land de Quiros took possession, calling it the Great South Land of the Holy Spirit. His actual proclamation was as follows: Let the heavens, the earth, the waters with all their creatures and all those here present witness that I, Captain Pedro Fernandez de Quiros, in the name of Jesus Christ, hoist this emblem of the Holy Cross on which Jesus Christs person was crucified and whereon He gave His life for the ransom and remedy of the human race, on this day of Pentecost, 14 May 1606, I take possession of all this part of the South as far as the pole in the name of Jesus, which from now on shall be called the Southern land of the Holy Spirit and this

always and forever to the end that to all natives, in all the said lands, the holy, sacred evangel may be preached zealously and openly. After the proclamation the ships cannons roared and soldiers fired their muskets and de Quiros and his men shouted: Long live the Faith of Christ! Professor Manning Clark writes: Then with a majestic sweep he reminded himself of his subjection to the ordinances of God, His high and sacred decrees, as well as the wishes of man. Whatever it was, whether obedience to the inscrutable decrees of Providence or the use of divine commands to justify the promptings of the heart. de Quiros came within an ace of discovering Australia and not for want of determination or faith. But Gods will was otherwise disposed, it was left to other Europeans of another denomination to found and colonise white Australia. Soon the English and Dutch took advantage of his discoveries and launched their own expeditions in their quest to find the South land of the Holy Spirit. Many Australians today have a man-centred or humanistic national view. This is one of the main differences between our founding fathers and modern Australia, and is a major reason why our nation has such serious problems. Sir Henry Parkes, the Father of Federation, said: We are pre-eminently a Christian people as our laws, our whole system of jurisprudence, our Constitution are based upon and interwoven with our Christian belief. Sydney Morning Herald 26/8/1885 It was a Dutch Protestant, Abel Tasman, the man who made the longest voyage since Magellan who was the first European to sight Tasmania and New Zealand. A devout Christian, he sailed from Batavia on 14 August 1642. Instructions to Skipper Commander Abel Tasman reminded him of other famous explorers-Christopher Columbus and Vasco da Gama-who had preceded him. What numberless multitudes of blind heathen have by the same been introduced to the blessed light of the Christian religion. May God Almighty vouchsafe His blessings on this work. Tasman made a second voyage in 1644, when he charted the coast of Australia from Cape York Peninsula west to Willems River in the centre of the west coast. If we look at a map of explorers prior to Cook, we see that while all of them headed straight for the Southland, they all sailed right around it! There are natural explanations-contrary winds and currents, but maybe God was waiting for another day, when an English Christian protestant, Captain James Cook should claim the land that became ours. We have a Christian heritage and we forget it at our peril. As Karl Marx wrote: A people without a heritage are easily persuaded. The Bible reminded Gods people to remember their heritage, and to look to that land God is bringing us to. We have a heritage that shows God led Christians, Catholic and Protestant, to discover this land. We who live in it, have not only a Christian heritage, but a Christian destiny. This great Southland of the Holy Spirit was given to us by God, to prepare us for an even greater destiny, a land and a city yet to come. Our early fathers of the faith understood this promised land with its beautiful harbour and cities was not to be our final abode. For people of faith have a heavenly destiny. As the Book of Hebrews explains after it mentions the great rollcall of famous believers: All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. They admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. Instead, they were longing for a better country a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. For all people of faith, God has prepared for us a better land, a heaven for believers and a city of God where we will dwell with Him through all eternity. Do you have the faith to believe this? Will you enter your name on the citizenship list of heaven? We hold to our Christian heritage in Australia, but we look forward to our eternal destiny in Heaven. Join us in the best of both worlds, a citizen of the Great South Land of the Holy Spirit, and a citizen of Heaven.
