GENERAL SUMMARY

The Staff Clinician is responsible for providing clinical STD/HIV diagnostic and treatment services at Magnet. The position reports to
the Clinical Supervisor, who provides administrative supervision of clinical services, oversees service delivery and quality assurance,
and serves as the primary liaison to the San Francisco Department of Public Health. Clinical diagnosis and dispensing of medications
at Magnet occurs under the supervision and license of Magnet’s medical director. The Staff Clinician will diagnose and treat within the
scope of Magnet’s contracted services and his or her professional license. He or she also will support Magnet’s early HIV diagnosis
program efforts, involving provision of intermittent HIV/STD screening services at additional testing sites to be determined, with
additional duties to including comprehensive health assessments, limited clinical interventions, and referrals to community
agencies. The goals of this initiative are: 1) to enhance Magnet’s current HIV antibody and RNA testing to better identify those at
highest risk of early infection and 2) to provide periodic HIV antibody and RNA testing at an expanded array of SFAF sites,
including two South of Market sites as well as Magnet’s partner program, Stonewall. Schedule includes evening and Saturday
hours.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


• Performs clinical assessments, diagnostics, and treatments as indicated, under supervision of Clinical Supervisor
• Serves as lead clinician for Magnet’s early HIV diagnosis program, coordinating with the SFAF HIV CTL Services Manager
• Serves as lead clinician in the absence of Magnet’s Clinical Supervisor
• Coordinates specimen collection and treatment at multiple screening sites
• Coordinates collection and tracking of clinical information and client records including results
• Prepares laboratory reports and treatment logs
• Represents Magnet with collaborating agencies and partners, as required
• Participates in clinical services meetings
• Assists in supervising clinical volunteers
• Assists in volunteer training efforts
• Participates in on-going quality control and improvement activities
• Consults with Magnet’s Medical Director, as needed
• Other professional or administrative duties as assigned
• Attends weekly supervision, department and/or agency meetings as required
• Operates within the Professional Expectation Standards established by SFAF
• Works collaboratively with other directors and managers as appropriate and/or assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

1. Knowledge of HIV and STD transmission, screening, diagnosis, and treatment


2. Knowledge of signs and symptoms of early HIV infection, as well as diagnostic strategies
3. Knowledge of the health care needs of medically underserved urban settings and clients
4. Ability to perform clinical assessments, to communicate findings, and to document effectively
5. Ability to dispense medications, providing patient education
6. Ability to discuss sex and sexuality clearly and without bias

7. Ability to discuss HIV risk and risk reduction strategies
8. Knowledge of substance use and mental health concerns
9. Knowledge of public health theory
10. Excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access

12. Ability to make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures
13. Excellent communications skills, including the ability to present verbally and through written reports
14. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks

17. Ability to maintain schedules
18. Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
19. Skill in operating various office equipment, such as personal computer, calculator, copy machine, facsimile machine,
typewriter, and telephone system
20. Ability to work comfortably with diverse populations, with sensitivity to issues concerning HIV and all disabilities

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Seeking Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician’s Assistant (PA), with current license required; mid-
level practitioner (NP or PA) preferred
• Minimum of one year’s experience providing clinical care related to STD/HIV-diagnosed patients preferred
• Familiarity with public health and/or wellness concerns of gay men
