Detail Engineering Report (Phase-I)

1. Introduction

Chapter I
1 1.1 INTRODUCTION Background of Study

The Daraundi Kalika Hydro Pvt. Ltd. has decided to harness the water resources of the middle reaches of Daraundi Khola. Therefore, in order to implement Daraundi A Small Hydroelectric Project, the Company has carried out the Detail Survey of the project area and preparing the detail design report. During the survey of detail engineering works, the powerhouse of the project has been moved downstream from the previous location. Since the 11 kilo-ChhepetarBhaluswara-Barpak road alignment is parallel to the canal alignment of the project, canal crosses the road at Chainage 27+280 and penstock pipe crosses at road chainage 24+100. It is conceived form the field survey and layout, the road alignment has been shifted at three places to meet the requirement of right of way(ROW). The other point to be note during the project construction is, 11 kilo-Chhepetar-Bhaluswara-Barpak road alignment could disturb the project construction at the forebay site, canal alignment and penstock pipe layout. The layout alignment of 11 kiloChhepetar-Bhaluswara-Barpak road alignment and project layout are shown in DWG NO. DHEP-A -05 and 27. Therefore, the developer has decided to implement the project in close coordination with the road department. The findings of the detail engineering survey has changed the project layouts and given in the following paragraphs. Daraundi A Small Hydroelectric Project (6.2 MW) is located at Gorkha District of Western Development Region (DWG NO DHEP-A-01 ). The intake site is located near Muchoktar village of Muchok VDC, 1000 m upstream of Jhylla Khola. The powerhouse site is situated near Chanaute village of Muchok VDC just upstream of confluence between Daraundi Khola and Syagdi Khola. The project area can be approached using track road originating from Gorkha Highway (about 11 km from Anbu Khaireni). Powerhouse is located at Chainage 25+500 km far from 11 Kilo Gorkha Highway on 11 Kilo-Chhepetar-Bhaluswanra-Barpak feeder road. The intake site is located at the Chainage 29+200. All the canal alignment passes parallel with 11 Kilo-Chhepetar-Bhaluswanra-Barpak feeder road.
The layout plans of from dam site to powerhouse site including canal option and alignment options are shown in DWG NO. DHEP-A- 02.

Previous Studies

Daraundi Small Hydroelectric Project (DHEP) was identified by individual developer and taken over by the Daraundi Kalika Hydro Pvt. Ltd. The power purchase agreement was completed on date Bhadra 2068 with Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and generation license was obtained from Ministry of Energy (MOEn) through Department of Electricity Development (DOED) on date Baishak 2069. A feasibility study was conducted in October 200 for the installed capacity of 6.2 MW. In 2010 September, the detail design of the project was completed with the tunnel option. The detail design work of the project has been revised by Niltara W and E Pvt. Ltd. to make the project cost effective. All the hydraulic structures of all the project components are changed. S. The principal objectives of this study are to carry out Detailed Engineering Study of Daraundi Small Hydroelectric Project. Besides that the report is prepared to use tendering the projects very soon. 1.4 Scope of Work

The scope of the study is consistent with the general requirement of a detailed Engineering and construction of the Daraundi Small Hydroelectric Project. Structural design for the proposed structure has to be carried out as per standard practices prevalent in the country considering the materials available and relevant codes. For deriving precise quantities required construction

purpose shall be based on more detailed drawings than prepared for the upgraded feasibility study, hence, latest topographic survey, latest surface geological maps has been used to carried out detail design. This study entails the following activities: 1. Design of headworks with all component parts including cofferdams with detailed drawings. 2. Design of intake dam with detailed drawings. 3. Design of desander and canal intake with detailed drawings 4. Design of headrace canal with detailed drawings. 5. Design of penstock, support piers and anchor blocks with detailed drawings. 6. Design of powerhouse and its appurtenances including civil and electrical components with design parameters. 7. Design parameters of all components of switchyard with drawings. 8. Design parameters of all electromechanical and hydro-mechanical equipment 9. Design parameters of hydro mechanical components like gates, valves, etc. 10. Preparation of BOQ based on the design and drawings and project cost estimates based on current and recent market rates. (Prices shall be obtained from the relevant market in order to substantiate the cost estimates.) 11. Preparation of construction planning and schedules 1.5 Methodology of the field investigation

The detail design of Daraundi Small Hydroelectric Project has been reviewed by the consultant Niltara W and E Pvt. Ltd. in the Project Office, Kathmandu. A team of engineers including Geologist, Hydrologist, Designer and Hydropower Engineer and Civil Engineer along with the developer has visit the project site for the finalisation of the project features. This includes layout of the project, final location of headworks, Desander, canal alignment, pipe alignment, location of Forebay powerhouse, relocation of road alignment and road crossing. Subsequent to finalisation of the project layout, the survey team was mobilised to the project site to conduct a detailed topographical survey and to collect data for the civil works and other designs. 1.6 Survey Work

The survey work has been carried out for the detail engineering and construction purpose. The final layout plan adopted is from the right bank of the Daraundi Khola parallel to 11 Kilo-
