4.1 PROPERTIES 4.1.1.MPBAD:

METAPHENOXY BENZALDEHYDE is a pesticide intermediate to manufacture synthetic pyrethroid insecticides. Structure:

4.1.1.2 Chemical Properties: MPBAD is readily soluble in most of the organic solvents such as methanol and ethanol and it is insoluble in water. Reactive in alkaline medium. It should be protected from air as it is susceptible to oxdation. Stable under normal conditions (temperatures and presures).

Health impacts: May be fatal. May cause irritatior or burns. Vapors may cause dizziness or suffocation. It also causes irritation in eyes,ingestion.

Environmental impacts :

Vapors may form explosive mixtures with air. Vapors may travel to source of ignition and flash back. Most vapors are heavier than air. They will spread along ground and collect in low or confined areas (sewers, basements, tanks). Vapor explosion and poison hazard indoors, outdoors or in sewers.

HANDLING
Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Avoid ingestion and inhalation.

EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

Personal Protection
Eyes: Wear chemical goggles. Skin: Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin exposure. Clothing: Wear appropriate protective clothing to minimize contact with skin.

Respirators
A respiratory protection program that meets OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.134 and ANSI Z88. European Standard EN 149 must be followed whenever workplace conditions warrant a respirator's use. FIRST AID MEASURES Ingestion If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water. Get medical aid immediately. Inhalation Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Skin Get medical aid. Flush skin with plenty of soap and water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Eyes Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get

medical aid immediately.

STORAGE Store in a cool, dry place. Keep container closed when not in use.(storage tank)
