El Sueo de Ivan Ivans Dream (1:00pm): El Sueo de Ivan tells the story of Ivan, who gets chosen to play in the first ever exhibition game between children and pro futbolistas. Pelotero - Ballplayer (3:00pm): This compelling documentary narrated by John Leguizamo (Moulin Rouge, Ice Age, Carlito's Way) is a gritty and rare look inside Major League Baseball's (MLB) recruitment of top talent in the Dominican Republic. Miguel Angel Sano and Jean Carlos Batista are among 100,000 teenagers vying for a handful of coveted contracts with MLB teams. As they turn 16 years old and become eligible to sign, each must navigate the fiercely competitive and frequently corrupt system if they are to lift their families out of poverty and achieve their dream: to one day play in the Major Leagues. Filmmakers Ross Finkel, Trevor Martin and Jon Paley take you inside this never before seen world for an up close and personal look at the cost of the American dream.

La Clave (4:45pm): La Clave is a fascinating musical documentary film about the similarities between two types of music genres known today as Salsa and Reggaeton. In this film, we were fortunate enough to have gathered the hottest stars of Reggaeton as well as the old school greats of salsa. We have interviewed salsa icons such as Willie Colon, Ismael Miranda, Gilberto SantaRosa, and on the Reggaeton side we interviewed billboard chart topping artists such as Julio Voltio, Tego Calderon, Hector El Father just to name a few.

America (6:30pm): While the setting of her Caribbean beach village seems picture-perfect, America's life is anything but peaceful. When their daughter runs away, America's abusive lover unleashes his rage against her. Leaving everything behind, America escapes to New York City hoping for a new life. There she works as a nanny for a wealthy family and at night in a laundry. She befriends three nannies -a Mexican, a Colombian and a Dominican- and with their help and support from relatives in the Bronx, America is determined to bring her daughter back to her. But her past haunts her. America must confront her terror to protect her dream .

Alcalde Richards Dice Un Santo Remedio No Existe

Guest ministers from Venezuela came to Rochester, New York as spiritual ambassadors for two weeks. Pastor John Jimenez and his wife Pastor Maria Jimenez from Ministerio Internacional Jesus Rey de Reyes (one of the fastest growing churches in Venezuela) were invited to our city by Rev. David Valle from River Citychurch. Psalmist Kerwin Marquez who is recognized in South America for his presentations in Enlace (a Spanish TBN Christian network) delighted and lifted souls with his powerful voice. They brought teachings, workshops, preaching, encouragement, healing and time of prayer to many local Latino and African-American pastors. Bilingual services also took place at HOPAR (House of Prayer and Restoration). Pastors and church parishioners from the evangelical movement are more united than ever to stand up against strongholds that are affecting our city such as violence, suicide, homicide and poverty.

How to Make the Best out of Your Mortgage

For any individual or family buying a property could be a high priority, but at the same time it is a longterm responsibility. People can get the mortgage of their property in terms of fifteen, twenty or thirty year amortization. Most commonly is to see thirty-year payments where usually our monthly payments are more reasonable, but the ultimate cost in interest payments may be higher. However, with some adjustments we can reduce years to our mortgage payment while at the same time making significant savings on interest. Among the options, making a solid initial down payment and making consistent contributions towards the principal are cost-effective. You may probably wonder how you can do this. Take the amount of your monthly payment and divide it by twelve, the amount obtained will be the additional contribution to the principal. You will not only be making your usual monthly payment but you will be providing an additional payment per year which will directly affect your mortgage. This payment will help reduce the principal balance of your mortgage and therefore future interest payment. Please note that to make this direct contribution to the principal you should consult your banking institution on the process. This transaction must be performed usually in person; otherwise, the additional contribution will not be recorded as a credit to the principal. On the other hand, if you decide to do this you can evaluate how the principal on your annual mortgage is being affected. Ask your institution for a history record of your mortgage payments and compare it year after year this way you can see and monitor the results of your additional contribution. Also take note that the monthly payments that are made during the early years of the loan have a minimal affect on the principal; practically, the entire amount paid is credited to the interest calculated. After the first few years is when you can to notice part of your monthly contribution, which affects the principal balance. If you decide to simultaneously make monthly payments towards your principal for the duration of the loan, you will see on the long run significant savings. You will notice these savings in the decrease of years to pay, savings in interest previously calculated and therefore a further reduction of your monthly payment. However, before purchasing a property orient yourself with various mortgage representatives, check out available mortgage deals, whats the current interest in the market, and other costs involved in the process. Remember that buying a property is an important decision and a great investment! I wish you SUCCESS!

Citizens Short-changed Again

disengaged, uninformed citizenry that mostly dont vote or vote blindly. At its most basic level, democracy is about choice. The public square that choice creates, in turn, insures diversity and brings accountability to those who represent us. When the two majority opposing political parties concede their respective strongholds to one another for years not challenging each other -- even the most engaged citizen feels powerless over impacting the results. With approximately six weeks to go in such an important event for any city, already our community is abuzz, and very much convinced, of what the result will beand the citizens are short-changed one more time. We can only hope that in the midst of such a truncated political process that the eventual winner will be a capable, caring, leader who will primarily remember to be a servant leader to the people she (or he) represents.

As we consider another November election for the primary leadership position in the third largest city in New York State; one-party rule, the lack of a public square, and the inability of citizens to have true choice will once again rule the process and we wonder why it resulted in the lowest ever voter turnout (23 %) by eligible voters for a Luis A. How to Make Healthy School Lunches for Your Children

Being a parent often requires a nonstop juggling routine that begins with morning carpool and ends with bedtime stories. In the rush to get your children to school, its important not to forget the value of preparing them a healthy lunch. It isnt as time consuming as it seems. LetsMove.gov, an initiative by First Lady Michelle Obama, offers good advice on healthy eating for children. But you can also follow these easy tips: Switch white bread for whole grain: If sandwiches are a staple in your childs lunch, the easiest way to make a change is to substitute whole grain bread for white. There are many varieties out there to please even the pickiest eater. You can also substitute flour tortillas with wheat ones and white pita with whole grain. Fill them with proteins like turkey slices and cheese. If your child prefers warm food in a thermos, you can fill it with brown rice, whole grain pasta and even oatmeal. Pack a rainbow: Fruits and vegetables are great sources of nutrition. Make fruits and vegetables more interesting. Pack green and purple grapes or colorful berries, dried apricots, mangos, cut red and orange peppers into strips and send them with a fun dipping sauce like hummus or yogurt and send oranges already peeled and sliced. The prettier the presentation, the higher the chances are your child will reach for it. Water, water, water: Juice may seem harmless, especially since the labels read things like packed with fruit. But juice adds a lot of unnecessary sugar and calories to your childs diet. Consider rethinking what they drink and send a bottle of water along with, or instead of, the juice box. Not only 16 15 agosto - 15 septiembre, 2013 - www.RochesterLaVoz.com does drinking water eliminate extra sugar from their diet, but it also keeps children from getting dehydrated throughout the day. Low-fat milk is also a good idea since it provides calcium and protein. Think about temperature: Would you eat warm yogurt or cold rice? The temperature inside your childs lunchbox is just as important as what is inside. Keep hot foods warm by sending them in a thermos, it helps if you first fill it with boiling water for two minutes to retain some heat. Keep cold items like cheese or hardboiled eggs cool by using ice packs. You can also use a refillable water bottle filled with ice cubes to keep things fresh, plus it will provide drinking water at the same time! Plan ahead: Making a healthy lunch does take some thought, but the morning rush, when everyones trying to get out the door, isnt the best time to get creative. Try to make a routine of packing some items the night before. Cutting up fruit, pre-making sandwiches, boiling whole grain pasta are all time-saving steps. Another good habit is to make weekly shopping lists (PDF), so youre not stuck searching the cupboard for last-minute and unhealthy options. SOURCE: usa.gov

Honoring Grandparents
In 1978, President Jimmy Cater proclaimed the first Grandparents Day to be celebrated the first Sunday after Labor Day. Marian McQuade, a housewife IDA PEREZ from West V i r g i n i a originated the day with the hopes to persuade grandchildren to tap the wisdom and heritage their grandparents could provide. What an ingenious way to honor those that help mold our communities and who provide us with love and understanding. the very end. Although my two grandmothers were very different in many ways; they both were strong and determined women. They knew when to give advice and always gave it with this great sense of humor. They both knew how to cure a belly ache or neck cramp with herbs and rubs. And they both would kill a chicken in a second and slaughtering a pig for a roast was an everyday task. They both outlived their husbands, yet they faced each challenge courageously and learned to adapt to the new times. My mother who was grandmother of 19 grandchildren and over 23 greatgrandchildren is remembered by her kind and thoughtful acts. She always remembered her grandchildrens birthdays and made it a point to give them a small token of love. She too was known for her good cooking and wealth of advice. She had a name of endearment for all her grandchildren which made each of them feel super special. and memories will I be leaving my granddaughter. Unfortunately, Tashy loss her paternal grandmother and maternal grandfather within the last 3 years. Therefore; its really up to me to provide her with the great experiences and fond memories she should have from her grandparents. Although Tashy is only six years old, she and I often have long conversations on topics that interest her. I am her cuddling buddy while watching her favorite TV shows; we enjoy cooking, dancing and playing together. Sometimes she even enjoys going to a meeting with me. Tashy has seen me work long hours at my job, as well as labor intense cleaning and repairing in the house we just moved in to. She has seen me wipe a tear and put on a smile and she has seen me fall and get back up. It is my hope that she sees in me the same qualities I saw in my grandparents; strength, determination and courage. So if you didnt know about the National Grandparent Day, it is not late to pay your grandparent a visit. If you are a grandparent, its still not late to start creating those fond memories

with your grandchildren. Remember, you are your childs first teacher and best advocate. Future Grandparents Day (In United States, Grandparents Day is always the first Sunday in September after Labor Day): September 7th, 2014 September 6th, 2015 September 11th, 2016

I had the privilege to meet and even live with my maternal grandparents in Puerto Rico during my youth. Although they barely left the house and never watched TV, they were prime examples of true love and commitment. Their daily rituals and faith in God helped Grandparents Day (September 8th, them take good care of each other until 2013) makes me think of what legacy
