Programs Assistant

Organization and Job Summary Sitar Arts Center advances the critical life skills of underserved children and youth in Washington, DC and prepares them for achievement in the 21st century through visual, performing and digital arts education in a nurturing community. Fostering personal and artistic growth through arts education and mentoring, the Center offers programs after-school and on Saturdays throughout the school year and during the summer to more than 800 students a year. Each semester, 80 percent of students are from low-income households. Sitar sustains a cost effective, unique model of program delivery through collaborations with DCs arts organizations and a faculty of local volunteer teaching artists, using a sliding fee scale that ensures affordability for every family and programs that reach a child at every stage of development. Sitar intentionally engages parents and families to create a safe, welcoming, and transformational community for children and youth. The Programs Assistant is responsible for many facets of managing and tracking program information, student and family data, facilitating billing processes, managing the Centers art gallery and communicating with artists, assisting with the management of summer programs, and assisting with maintaining the Center. The Programs Assistant will work with a small team of creative arts professionals in both an office and educational setting and report to the Senior Director of Operations. The successful candidate will enjoy working with children in a fast paced collaborative environment as well as very detailed and thorough administrative work. Qualifications and Experience Minimum of high school diploma, Bachelors degree preferred. Experience working in the arts and an interest in teaching. Excellent attention to detail and data entry skills, with experience working in Microsoft Excel. Strong leadership, communication and problem solving skills Ability to work independently and in a team oriented environment Bilingual - Spanish and English speaker Preferred Qualifications Bachelors Degree Visual Arts/ gallery background Experience working with children The Programs Assistant is an entry level, full time position. Starting annual salary is $32,000 with an excellent benefits package. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday 11:00 am 7:00 pm, with some Saturday hours. This position is with the programs department, which requires staff to be available during all registration periods, class times, activities and events.
